The College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is available for all age groups- elementary students to adults, to help with
education planning, planning and paying for college, as well as career planning! This user friendly website allows you to create an
account which gives you access to resources and tools, store all your applications and work, and it allows you to create a career

Freshmen Freshmen Day/Orientation: Ninth grade students have the opportunity to become familiar with Offered before Fall
the building, find lockers and classrooms, as well as meet teachers. Academic, attendance, semester begins
behavioral and athletic expectation sessions will be conducted.

Goal Setting: Students will meet with school counselors to choose a path: college or
Summer before Fall
career/technical. This discussion will determine the classes they will take in high school and
semester
begin their discussion of options after high school. This would be an opportunity to partner a
freshman with an upperclassman mentor on a similar path. Students will create a CFNC account
during this session.

Preparing for AP Courses: Session with guidance to provide information on AP course Early Fall
offerings and how to prepare for the courses.

College Visits: Students will be exposed to college/university tours to inspire them to want to

go to college and begin conversations about their options.
SAT/ACT Preparation Courses: Classes will be offered for SAT and ACT preparation. Ongoing
Meetings with students will be conducted regarding fully funded programs.

Summer STEM Academy: Science and technology are continuously expanding in every aspect Summer
of our lives. STEM Summer Academy will provide opportunities for collaboration, critical thinking,
problem solving, data analysis and creativity. Participants should expect fun, hands-on activities
and group challenges! This will provide students with the opportunity to explore a specific
college/career path.

Sophomores College Visits: Scheduled visits to local colleges and universities. Opportunities for students to 2 in the Fall and 2 in the
tour campuses and ask questions will be provided. Spring

SAT/ACT Preparation Courses: Classes will be offered for SAT and ACT preparation.
Ongoing
Meetings with students will be conducted regarding fully funded programs.

PLAN Registration and Exam: Sophomore students will be required to take the PLAN exam in
tenth grade. This exam is in preparation for the ACT exam that students will take as juniors. Offered in the Fall

Preparing for AP Courses & Course Offerings at the Community College: Session with
guidance to provide information on AP course offerings for the following year. Information will be
provided on course offerings at the community college. Offered in late Spring

Juniors College Visits: Scheduled visits to local colleges and universities. Opportunities for students to 2 in the Fall & 2 in the
tour campuses and ask questions will be provided. Spring

College/University Representatives: Representatives from colleges and universities from Ongoing: Fall and
Spring
across the state will visit the school to offer information and answer questions for juniors and
seniors.
ACT Registration & Exam: The state requires high schools to provide the opportunity for high Offered in October
school Juniors to take the ACT. Staff provides the registration process and the administration of
the exam.

College Fair: Colleges from all over the state of NC will be represented at the college fair. High
school juniors and seniors (along with their parents/guardians) will be offered the opportunity to
speak with colleges and universities to ask questions pertaining to their individual interests.

Seniors FAFSA Day: This day provides students and parents the opportunity to learn about financial aid Offered in early Fall
options and how to apply. Outside scholarship opportunities will be provided during this session.

College/University Representatives: Representatives from colleges and universities from


Ongoing: Spring & Fall
across the state will visit the school to offer information and answer questions for juniors and
seniors.

Families and community members are invited to attend. Information will go out to families a
month in advance, and it will be promoted on the website and social media.
