The Mean Value Theorem is an extremely useful theorem in the field of calculus.

It states that for

a continuous function f , on interval [a,b], and differentiable on (a.b), then there is a number c
that exists between the intervals (a.b).

This theorem was relatively simple for me to grasp at the time of learning it but it is extremely
useful and has proved its worth in the field of mathematics. It is commonly used, and an in depth
understanding of the concept is very important.

The steps of this problem are:

1. Find f ' (c)
2. Write the equation for the line tangent of f ( x )
3. Find c

Equation = f ( x )=2 x 2 [1,2]

f ( 2 )f (1) 82
f ' ( c )= = =2
2(1) 3

f ' ( x )=4 x

4 c=2

c=0.5
