Objective

Objective of this assignment is to evaluate corporate social responsibility of Noor Majan

Training Institute in the light of CSR model proposed by Carroll

Theories of CSR

Carroll (1991), with his research proposed various corporate social responsibilities
(CSR) as a four-level model like pyramid this is regarded as pyramid of responsibilities.
Calling the responsibilities as - economical, legal, Moral and Charitable are the level of
the pyramid model.

As per Carroll and Buchholtz (2003), the pyramid of responsibilities model is an

integrated model which cannot be separated and over all makes a whole model.

It can be mentioned that a company to be gainful, it is required to make proper and

calculated planning to increase the sale and revenue and minimize the cost which
should be part of economic responsibilities. Economic execution is need o the the
society. The next level is the legal or rightful responsibilities that effect the society
and governing authority. Company or business is required to follow the local law, since
obeying the law reflects what the society accept or rejects in the business operations.
Ethical responsibilities differ from previous two responsibilities in the sense that they
are nor demanded, expected or asked by the society. Maintaining ethical management
and movement, keeping away from uncertain and disputed practices are not ethical.
Also working or doing more than standards or away from law would be reared as
unethical. The philanthropic or Humanitarian responsibilities are on the top level of
and help in being a good corporate citizen. This level presents improvement in the
quality of life for the society. This shows contribution from the company or moral
responsibility, to care the society by offering support packages or getting voluntarily
engaged in charitable work are part of philanthropic responsibilities.

Further elaborating them,

Economic Responsibilities:

Work in strategic way and potentially to get maximum revenue.

Working on efficient operations at every level to get full resource usage
Working on consistent success and revenue
Should be able to maintained strong position against competitors

In case of Noor Majan these economic responsibilities are applicable. Company has
shown remarkable progress with proper profitability. The training record and functionality
of employees represent companys sustainability.

Legal Components

A responsible business should meet all legal obligations.

Provide all the service under the legal system and meeting the law requirements.
Make sure that do not conflict with any government agency in terms of legal
obligations. .

If any organizations cannot meet these need it will not work under legal system. Noor
Majan has seen having met all the legal requirements in terms of Municipal and
Education norms. The training packages offered are approved by ministry and certifies
in terms of progress and contents. So Noor Majan has best possible legal obligation.all
the Omani staff are given with Social Insurance and other facilities as per government
rules.

Ethical Responsibilities

Understanding the morality and ethical behavior of corporate is essential to be

called morally responsible.
IN order to meet corporate objectives it is recommended that not to compromised
any ethical norms.
Present and design good Ethical objectives and ways to implement them .
Identify various ethical norms and look into implementing them.
The company should be aware of need of the society. Noor Majan works to meet need
of society and students. It also look into the staff development and benefits to the
families connected to the company.

Philanthropic Responsibilities:

Continuously working in a way to meet moral and social needs with charity for
society.
Getting involved with people for their betterment
Support to staff and their family for development .
Developing quality of life in society as essential ethical responsibility with
voluntary programs and invovelments.

This activity makes the organization socially acceptable. The organization here uses
some best model which is adopted by few Multinational. Noor Majan has seen working
with Omani Students in various interior parts with offering free education to needy
students undr its CSR program. Since the company works on Language training,
English language is taught on part time basis for interior region students to make them
aware of language and thus getting involved in the social responsibility level..
As mentioned by Archie Carroll (1991), for a company the pyramid of corporate social
responsibility initiates with economic responsibilities and goes on with legal, moral, and
Philanthropic responsibilities. Nowadays the ethical or and Philanthropic responsibilities
mentioned in Carrolls model are becoming more important and essential as the
business environment and economies are changing that results in change of ethical
responsibilities.

According to (Baron , 2003) Companies with CSR are more expected to be

distinguished and with economic and legal responsibilities as base for success of
business, where CSR will be seen as method of comparing business functions with
societal values when these are seen being observed by society as symbol of success.
Ethical behavior of a company reflects the culture followed in the operations, which
affects the objectives and vision deeply by moral actions and corporate identity.
In an organization The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of is meant for performing
business with a plight and way so that to be accountable for the social and
environmental impact by the business process are taken care. Normally it is a moral
responsibility to bring in approaches and acquire policies to make strategic procedures
and methods into business operations with touch of development in moral works.
Initially the CSR approach reflecting charity. Since past decade it has changed into a
broader responsibility to safeguarding and making better lives of employees and hence
the societies surrounding which companies do business. CSR policies generally take
care of issues affecting each section of company operations: customer handling,
management and integrities; hiring staff, training and development; responsible ordering
and buying policies, and environmental effects. (Gellerman, 2012).

Business Ethics & theories

Now a day it is essential for both big and small businesses to have an official code of
ethical guidelines for employees to follow so called Business Ethics. Business
ethics theories comprise of ethical values or codes a company puts into practice to
make sure that all employees act with acceptable behavior. Hesy (2013) claims that
there are no or cannot be ethics in a business. Or simple business is unethical. Parker
(2012) says in his findings; Ethics is related with the considering morality and applying
the reason to form certain rules that will actually verify right and wrong situation. These
codes of conduct are called ethical theories.
Under these a few different business ethics theories exist, such as the utilitarian, rights
& justice, Egoism and Ethics of duties.
Both Egoism and utilitarianism judge right and wrong based on outcome of a decision.
According to Raven (2011) theory of egoism can be defined as An action is morally
right if the decision maker freely make a decision in order to follow either their short-
term requirements or long-term interests. Similarly Miles (2013) says an action is
ethically right if it results in the greatest amount of gain for the greatest amount of
persons affected by the action.
Rights and Duties theories remain important in deciding right wrong in business. These
theories served many decision makers of religious adherence.
Joanna (2009) argued that ethics and judgment about right and wrong were not
dependent on a particular situation but also on cost of someones action.
If we talk about morality and ethical theories, morality is concerned with the social
practices defining right and wrong. Ethical theory and moral philosophies provide
guidelines for justification of right or wrong actions when settling human conflict. No one
moral philosophy is accepted by everyone.

To know the ethical behavior we need to understand theories on ethical and moral
issues relating to shareholders. These theories regulate the right or wrong results for
given situation.
Carroll & Buchholtz (2006) mention that currently, the three most important theories of
business ethics are the shareholder, stakeholder, and social contract theories. These
theories give clear explanation of a businessman's ethical responsibilities, and hence, at
most one of them can be accurate. The shareholder theory is the oldest of the three,
and it would be fair to distinguish it as out of favor with many modern business ethicists.
For many, the stockholder theory corresponds to unrealizable from the olden days of out
of regulated entrepreneurship.
On the other hand, It is seen in past decade that the stakeholder theory is widely
accepted it currently may be considered the conventionally-accepted position within the
business ethics community. However, the social contract theory has been cited with
significant approval and praise and might precisely be described as challenging the
stakeholder theory for superiority among normative theorists. Social responsibility is
usually made in use as a synonym for a business's or businessmen ethical obligations.
Apart from these normative models Western Modernist Ethical principles have
progressed depending on philosophical thinking. This generally classified in
consequentialist theories and Non-consequentialist. (Gillis, 2011)
Morality is something which is associated with the social customs mentioning right and
wrong. Ethical theory and moral philosophies give principles and rules for validation of
right or wrong deeds when resolving human arguments.( Nielsen, 2010)
Employee Discrimination
The personnel committee took the diversity of opinions, values, and backgrounds of the
workforce into account and implemented extensive antidiscrimination policies. As the
workers started to question the committees decisions and mistrust the participative
leadership style, there was a need for change, and a change was made to the present
leadership strategy. A management committee has been established to make
environmental decisions and increase the commitment of the workers on sustainable
development goals, combining transactional leadership style (members of the
management committee chosen by the workers on the basis of their environmental
management skills) and transformational leadership style (members of the management
committee chosen by the workers on the basis of their charismatic leadership qualities).
(Ronen, 2009)
As part of internal CSR, Toyota gives more importance to staff and believes that the
present development of business is because of every employee work and combined
teamwork. Toyota corporation inspires staff members to develop. Company always
seeks to give better working atmosphere and safe working conditions everyone. The
company seriously discourages any discrimination and offers equal opportunities to
everyone. Company values and respect the every stakeholder human rights and does
not bring any unethical work practices.(Schiff, 2012)

Sexual and Racial Harassments

Companies are responsible for providing employees with safe, healthy places to work
as well as environments that are free from sexual harassment and all types of
discrimination. They should also offer appropriate wages and benefits. In the following
sections, well take a closer look at each of these areas of responsibility. Though it
seems obvious that companies should guard workers safety and health, a lot of them
simply dont. For over four decades, for example, executives at Johns Manville
suppressed evidence that one of its products, asbestos, was responsible for the deadly
lung disease developed by many of its workers.( Kotler , 2012)
Equal Opportunity and Diversity

People must be hired, evaluated, promoted, and rewarded on the basis of merit, not
personal characteristics. NOOR MAJAN has a formal policy on hiring and promotion
that forbids discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin,
citizenship, sexual orientation, or disability. NOOR MAJAN expects all employees to
support its commitment to equal employment opportunity and warns that those who
violate company policies will face strict disciplinary action, including termination of
employment. (Saul , 2010)

Working condition
In preventing work-related accidents, Noor Majan believes that maintaining and
improving a workplace environment that takes into account the safety and health, both
mental and physical, of employees is important to ensure that they can carry out their
work with peace of mind. At each business site, the Health and Safety Committee
develops and implements accident prevention and safety improvement measures that
are relevant to each workplace. (Barrett, 2009)
Sustainable Development
Noor Majan has set forth its personnel training policy and implemented measures that
assist employees in developing a career mindset and growing throughout personnel
policies, on-the-job training, off-the-job training and personal development. Also, Noor
Majana offers programs at various levels which are created around the core
components of basic attitude, management, global personnel development, as well as
knowledge and skills for executing operations. (Houston, 2011)

Conclusion
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to operating a business during a
manner that accounts for the social and environmental impact created by the business.
CSR means that a commitment to developing policies that integrate accountable
practices into daily business operations and to reporting on progress created toward
implementing these practices. Business ethics theories comprise of ethical values or
codes a company puts into practice to make sure that all employees act with acceptable
behavior. Demand for water for domestic and industry and irrigation water increases. On
the other hand availability of clean water is limited. Higher demand of water is reshaping
water as a proper business market. now a day it is essential for both big and small
businesses to have an official code of ethical guidelines for employees to follow so
called Business Ethics. Business ethics theories comprise of ethical values or codes a
company puts into practice to make sure that all employees act with acceptable
behavior. Collin (1994) claims that there are no or cannot be ethics in a business. Or
simple business is unethical.
