INTRODUCTION

Hi there! My name is Shawn Tham, author of 101 Success Drivers.

I would like to congratulate you for opting to receive this eBook. You now
possess an important and powerful resource to help you transform your
life.

You may begin to question, Can the Success Drivers really help me in my
life?

If you would allow me, let me answer that question by demonstrating the
effects of empowering myself diligently.

Now let me share my personal story

How my Success Drivers Transformed My Life

After receiving my results for a national examination, I cried. Not because
of my results (my results were poor!), but because of the look of
disappointment on my parents faces.

I was given the option to proceed to a 5-year course (Normal Stream) or a


4-year course (Express Stream). My parents were undecided on which
would be a better choice for me, so they consulted my teachers.

My teacher said, Looking at these results, it would be better for him to
enrol in the 5-year course instead of the 4-year course. This is based on his
results. If he were to enrol in the 5-year course, he would be one of the
better students there. If he were to enrol in the 4-year course, he would be
one of the bottom few students. Ultimately, it is up to him.

I thought to myself if I should let my teacher fix his opinion of me that I
would be the bottom few students should I enrol in the 4-year course. I also
thought to myself, Who am I not to be? Nevertheless, I made a choice to
enrol in the 4-year course against my parents wishes because they felt the
5-year course would be more suitable for me.

There was no looking back. I had to succeed in the 4-year course in order
not to disappoint my parents again. Classes were segregated into A-band
and B-band classes (according to the score attained at the national
examination). I was posted to the last class of the B-band classes. When
school started the next year, my previous classmates who were in the A-
band classes looked down on me. They felt that I was a disgrace to have
made it to the last class of the entire cohort. However, I did not let them

affect me because I knew, that if I were determined to succeed, I would


surely succeed.

Every day, I pestered my teachers after school without fail to clarify any
doubts I had during lessons. I made sure that I was able to solve all the
practice questions in my textbooks.

Then, the mid-year examinations came. The results were released. I topped
my class! I found what I had been doing to be effective and fruitful. I
continued at it relentlessly and diligently. At the end of the year, I had
topped my class again! In fact, not only had I topped my class, I also fared
better than my peers from the A-band classes. I was offered the Good
Progress and bursary awards for my achievements. That was not significant
to me, though. What was more meaningful and significant for me was my
parents joy.

This was my first taste of dreaming big and actually realising dreams. The
taste of success was sweet. I am glad I did not let others (my teachers and
parents) opinions decided my path in life. I control my own destiny.

Since young, I was brought up to study hard, make it to university, obtain a
degree and get a good job. I followed this path, since what I wanted was
for them to be happy and proud of me.

Having graduated with a Bachelors degree, I felt empowered to conquer
the world. Moving forward, I secured a job that everybody dreamt of.
However, it was a dead-end job.

To everyone else, I had succeeded in life I was working in a reputable
organization and earning an income that was higher than my peers.

Yet, somehow I wasnt happy at all!

Perhaps it was the long working hours, or the unavoidable office politics.
Whatever it was, I found myself dreading going to work every day. This was
then I knew I had to look for alternatives. I also knew that the outcome
would be the same if I looked for another job that offered better
prospects.

My intention was to find a way to make money from home, so that I could
no longer be tied down by long working hours, or even office politics. The
problem was that I had no inkling how I would be able to make money from
home. Furthermore, I was the sole breadwinner in my family of 4.

The next step I took was to invest $10 000 on credit into personal
development and wealth seminars. For the first few months after my

investment, I only managed to make a negligible amount of money.


However, making money was not my main focus. I was motivated at that
time to help people around me change their mindsets to transform their
lives.

But, the bills kept coming in. I felt a huge burden upon my shoulders and
nearly threw in the towel. It certainly wasnt easy to help other people
transform their lives when I am struggling myself to pay off the bills.

One day, I was introduced to this movie called The Secret. From this
movie, I learnt about the principles of the Law of Attraction.

What this Law of Attraction means is that everything we attract into our
lives is due to our thoughts. Let me quote an example. When I was younger,
I kept thinking to enrol myself in one of the top universities. At age 21, I
indeed made it to one of the top universities. Although what you want to
attract in your life may not come immediately, but it will, eventually. The
fundamental principle here is to never give up!

The thoughts (be it positive or negative) that we keep in our minds with
strong emotions will eventually be manifested in reality. Simply put, we
attract what we focus on. If we focus on something positive, we attract it. If
we focus on something negative, we also attract it. So, why not keep

focusing on positive thoughts in order to attract them? If we want to


change our lives, we ought to begin by changing our thoughts.

How do I change my thoughts to transform my life? is something you
should be asking yourself right now.

I began my journey by asking myself that question. A close friend shared
with me a verse from the bible, Ask and it shall be given to you; seek, and
ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7). I
searched for the answer and it was this journey of discovery that inspired
me to write 101 Success Drivers.

It is important to understand that what we continually tell ourselves affects
how we feel about ourselves. We are usually the harshest when criticizing
ourselves, and this is evident in the things we say to ourselves every day.

Nobody ever listens to me; my opinion does not matter
I am overweight, I am unattractive
I couldnt get a simple task done right, I am so useless

Do all these sound familiar to you? In time to come, such negative thoughts
will invade our subconscious mind and without realizing it, we will allow

such limiting thoughts to form our beliefs. This is dangerous because these
false beliefs we form of ourselves will eventually become a reality.

What is even worse is that as we attract more situations that seemingly
prove such thoughts right, we descend into an abyss of despair. Entering
this realm of despair will prevent ourselves from attracting the good and
happiness in life we truly deserve.

This is where the 101 Success Drivers will play an important role in your life.

These Success Drivers you commit yourself to, serve to negate the negative
thoughts. In the long run, you will find that you are able to conquer those
limiting beliefs with empowering thoughts that open your mind to the
infinite possibilities and golden opportunities. No longer will you see
obstacles, bur rather, you will see challenges that motivate and drive you to
overcome anything to take that one step closer to Success.

Personally, when I first started to use the Success Drivers, I felt uneasy. It is
absolutely not human nature to be able to speak positivity in a period of
uncertainty and negativity.

Please be reassured that it is perfectly normal to experience discomfort by


using the Success Drivers. Despite the initial unpleasant feelings, I
persevered and committed myself to them.

I found that the more I used the Success Drivers, the more I felt really good
about myself. I was certain that much more good things will enter my life.

Today, I am thankful for the opportunity given to me to be able to add
value to people by touching and changing their lives, in hope to spread
more joy around the world.

advantage.

#1 - Success Is a Journey

Success! It is a universal desire that many want to achieve in life. All of us


strive to lead successful lives. We want success in our careers, relationships
etc. It is the reason why we put ourselves through education and work
hard. We all believe that success will bring us happiness and make our lives
meaningful.
Do you know what success is? How do you tell when you are successful?
Many people are unable to answer this.
I want to let you know that there is no single definition to success. To
different people, success is defined differently. Some people only feel they
are successful when they have attained the goals they have set for
themselves. For such people, they determine success based on their own
standards.
There are also some people who define success as being recognised by
society or their peers. To these people, their own thoughts do not matter,
but rather, what others think of them.
Some others, on the other hand, feel they have achieved success when
they have done their utmost best, regardless of what others think of them.
So, what is your definition of success? Well, there is no definite answer.
What is most important is that your personal definition of success
empowers you to achieve greater heights in life.

I personally believe that success is not a destination that you arrive. It is


also not about achieving goals or targets set. Rather, success is a journey of
moving towards your goals each and every day. For example, lets say that
you set a goal to build a billion-dollar business. In the first year, you did
your utmost best, but end up making losses of $1,000,000. In the following
year, you reflect upon your mistakes and improve your business processes
and model. However, you still make losses of $500,000. Over the next few
years, you struggle but you continuously improve your business skills, put in
continuous effort and say no to quitting. Then finally, there comes a time
when you make your first pot of gold and hits its $1 billion profit mark. You
have reached your destination!
In the given example, when did you actually achieve success? Are you only
successful when you hit your $1 billion profits mark? In reality, hitting that
$1 billion goal did not occur overnight. Neither did it happen because of
one action you took. You achieved that goal because you succeeded in
making the right decisions, reflecting from past mistakes, improving and
taking corrective actions every day, over the past years. You were
successful the moment you took one step forward to reach towards that
goal.

# 2 - Never regret

Everyone makes mistakes or have some across failures in the pass. If you
want to be successful, you have to look back at past mistakes, learn from
them and value those difficult lessons that have brought you to where you
are today. That being said, do not dwell on everything that has happened in
the past. Select those mistakes that have value, work on them, improve on
them and move forward to make better and smart decisions from the
lessons learnt.

#3 - Make Happiness Your Choice

Are you still waiting for a particular event to occur before you will allow
yourself to be happy? Most of us have a fixed set of rules of what would
make us happy, and we do not allow ourselves to be happy until we satisfy
those rules.

The problem is that even once specific criterion that allows us to be happy
has been met, we are seldom satisfied with them. Instead, we tend to shift
our focus on other things we believe will make us happier. We never allow
ourselves to reach a point of contentment. Are you like this?

You can still choose to be happy, even if not everything is going your way in
life. Below are 3 simple ways to do so:

1. Be grateful. Being grateful doesnt just only make you feel good, it
shifts your focus from what you lack to what you possess. The more you
focus on what you are grateful to have in your life, the less you worry about
anything that may be lacking. The result? A content and happier you!

2. Keep a calm and serene mind. If you spend most of your days feeling
rushed and scattered, it is hard to feel the happiness you deserve. In order
to be truly happy, you need to make time for yourself to relax, dream, and
take pleasure in the simple things in life. Starting today, make sure to spend
time doing things you love on a regular basis. Read books that boost your
imagination; listen to music; take long walks, and make an effort to enjoy
your life.

3. Enjoy the beautiful journey. Many of us make the mistake of pinning
all our expectations on end results and desired outcomes. We believe that
once we get there, everything will be perfect and we will finally be happy.
However, there is much to be gained from enjoying the journey to your
destination. Make it your cause to take pleasure in every moment that you
are working toward higher goals. Enjoy the sense of self master and
accomplishment with every goal you achieve. Make it a worthwhile journey
and you will savour the end result that much more!

The most important thing you should understand about happiness is that it
is largely a choice you make from time to time. Embrace happiness, and it
will multiply manifolds in life for you.

#4 - Boost Self Esteem With Affirmations

A low self-esteem is more often than not, the result of negative messages
being fed to the subconscious mind. What we should be doing is the exact
opposite to feed our mind positive messages. This would make a
significant and powerful difference.

Most people face the barrier of not knowing what to say, or how to
construct effective affirmations. Here are some simple ways to write
effective affirmations to boost your self-esteem.

1. Use the present tense. It is helpful to write affirmations in present
tense. It is recommended to say I Want to love myself instead of I will
learn to love myself because the former sentence makes it sound like you
will only love yourself in time to come. Wording affirmations in the present
tense accomplishes two things: it empowers you because of the words I
want to and it sets the time frame in the present moment.

2. Affirmations should be believable. If your affirmation goes something

like I am a wonderful person trying to change the world, you may not
truly believe that. This would result in the rejection of your affirmation by
your subconscious mind. Instead, focus on a process rather than an
outcome in your affirmations. Affirmations should be worded something
like this, I am making room for more success to enter my life. I am focused
on results to drive my success.

3. Repeat your affirmations. Once you have crafted some affirmations to
empower your self-esteem, consciously and consistently repeat them
throughout the day. One thing to bear in mind, your subconscious mind is
constantly replaying old negative messages to you want to use positive
messages to counteract them. Remember to keep reciting the positive
thoughts in your head. Do this on a regular basis especially when you find
that you are slipping into negativity.

4. Give it time. Your negative thoughts in your mind will slowly but surely
turn into positive messages if you keep reciting your affirmations. It may
take a few weeks or even several months before you will notice a
significant difference in how you feel. During this period, you may be led to
think your affirmations arent working. Persevere and you will begin to see
a difference eventually. You will start to feel more positive, and notice that
you are actually feeling less burdened and more cheerful. Thats your sign
that your affirmations are working.

#5 - Reach For Your Goals


Most people set goals for themselves, yet never come around to achieving
them. Are you like that? Probably. In fact, many people commonly get stuck
in the endless cycle of goal setting and then give up halfway.

Why do so many people do this? One of the major reasons is the lack of
commitment to their goal. Without commitment, a goal will become less of
a goal, and turn into something that becomes a good-to-have. When
people lower themselves into this state, they arent as excited to achieve
their goals. Naturally, the goals will eventually become less of a priority in
their lives and the temptation to quit will set in. This is especially so when
obstacles they encounter cause major disappointments or setbacks.

What is the solution to this? Make a serious commitment to achieve your
goal. Set daily reminders on your progress. Break them up into smaller
achievable steps. This way, after completing each small step towards your
goal, you will be driven to complete the next task that is required to attain
your goal. Keep up with this and you will reach your goal.

Heres how to reach for your goals:

1. Set vital goals. Take time to think through about what you really want
to achieve in life. Attach a purpose behind the goal. Ask yourself, why do
you want to achieve that goal? How will achieving the goal benefit you?
How will your life be transformed after achieving this goal?

2. Think about the consequences if you do not follow through. What
would happen if your goal is not achieved? If nothing happens, then you
need to raise the stakes. You have to make your goal so critical such that
you cannot live without it. This way you will be more driven and motivated
to achieve your goal.

3. Renew your commitment. It is easy to be committed when your goal
is new and your motivation is high, but you need to be consistent and stay
committed. Every morning, read through the goal you have set, and think
about how vitally important it is to you. Make a promise to yourself that
you are going to do whatever it takes to work on your goal. Set time for it
daily to achieve it.

#6 - Create Your Day

Do you tend to let what happens around you to set the mood for the day?
Do you allow other people or events to trigger feelings of anger,
frustration, impatience and more?

When you allow that, you are not fully maximising the powers deep inside
of you. By using the Law of Attraction, you can turn every single day into a
great day. One simple way to do that is by using intentions and
visualizations to create your day.

The first thing to do when you wake up every morning is to spend about 10
minutes thinking about the experiences you would like to encounter that
day. How would you like your day at work to go? What are the different
kinds of people you would like to meet? Would you like to receive some
great opportunities to advance your career or financial situation? How
would you like to feel for the most part of your day?

Make a note of all the experiences you would like to encounter in a
notebook. After writing the details down, spend a few moments vividly
imagining each experience in your mind, exactly as you would like it to

By the time you are finished visualizing your experiences, you should be

Then continue with your normal routine, taking special care not to be

#7 - Empower Yourself

If you have ever been stuck in a rut of inertia before, you probably know
that sense of helplessness and futility that overwhelms your life. You want
to change your life, but feel powerless to do anything about it on your own.
You may find yourself constantly generating ideas to improve your life, but
never quite getting around to taking action about those ideas because it
seems intimidating.

Though taking action can intimidate and frighten you, it can also empower
you. If you learn to use it effectively, it will provide the fuel to keep you
moving forward towards more fulfilling life experiences. When you do this,
you will realize that there was never anything much to worry about or fear
in the first place. This way, you will never get stuck in the same spot ever
again.

1. Realize and acknowledge your circumstances. Do you see that your
is currently the way it is because you procrastinated in taking action? It is
crucial to realize this because only then you will understand the importance

2. Plan your action step. Decide on one action step to start the ball
rolling. Think about your life at the present moment, ask yourself which

action you can take to bring about a positive change. It does not have to be
a huge action, just something to start building momentum.

3. Take action. After you have planned your action step, motivate and
push yourself. This may seem incredibly difficult or even frightening, but
bear in mind that often, the things you fear will not become a reality. In
fact, you may not even have a clear reason for being scared. You are just
afraid of the unknown. Give yourself a pep talk to drive yourself to move
forward. After taking that first step, be sure to let go of any expectations of
the things that will happen as a result of it, and allow yourself to feel great
simply because you have done something to move forward.

4. Repeat with the same action step, and/or others. Once you have
taken that first step, you will need to keep pushing yourself to take the next
step. Consider this: Even if you take a hundred small steps in a month, you

But what if you never choose to believe you have failed? What if you
continue working towards your goals, one step at a time for as long as it
takes? There is no failure then, is there?

This insight should be very encouraging if you have been working towards

1. Never give yourself a reason to give up. Most people do this without

yourself up for failure. Instead, get a general idea of when you would like
your goal to be completed. Take it a day at a time and focus on making
progress, not reaching the finish line in as little time as possible.

3. Do not equate challenges and setbacks as failures. Challenges or
setbacks you face are completely different from failures. A challenge,
setback or delay means only one thing: it is not time for your goal to be
completed yet. Thats it. It does not mean you have failed, nor does it mean
you are weak. It certainly does not mean you will never achieve your goals.
It simply means you are not done yet. You got to keep moving forward and
find a way around to overcome the challenge.

#9 - Check Your Self-Talk

Did you know that you actually talk to yourself all day long? By this, I am
not referring to the mental chatter about the various activities or chores
that you need to remember throughout the day. That is a form of self-talk
too, but what I really mean is the things you say to yourself on a regular
basis; and more importantly, the tone in which you say them.

especially if it is a big part of your daily life. When you keep saying things
like that to yourself, you will eventually begin to believe them.

Most often, these messages start out as statements told to you by the
adults in your life when you were a child. They may have said something
negative about you when your actions make them displeased, or perhaps
they had a habit of saying unkind remarks even when you didnt deserve
them. As painful as these experiences can be, they are only going to get
worse if you pick up where they left off and keep repeating the same
negative messages to yourself over and over again.

I have some good news for you! You can change your self-talk anytime you
wish. You just have to know how to become aware of the tone of your
messages and consciously replace them with more encouraging ones.

1. Develop awareness of your self-talk. It may take some practice, but if
you listened hard enough to your inner voice, you will start to notice it
when you talk to yourself negatively.

something negative such as, I am such a screw-up, I cannot do anything
right, stop yourself and challenge that belief. Is that really true? While it
may be true you mess up sometimes, but do you always mess up? Probably
not.

3. Replace the negative voices with positive voices. When you realize
you are saying unkind and untrue things to yourself, simply turn it around
in your mind. Using the above example, you might want to say, Hey! Thats
not true. I do many other things right! It is true I make mistakes, but so
does everyone. I will do my best and that is good enough for me.

Over time, your efforts will pay off in the form of stronger self-esteem and
respect for yourself and your capabilities. It probably will not happen
overnight, but the more you work at turning your self-talk in a more
positive direction, the better you will feel about yourself.

3. Let go. Do not worry about how your money will come. At the same
time, do not be obsessed on winning the lottery or even receiving an
inheritance. Let the universe decide how it will come. Keep your eyes open
for opportunities to receive more money and act on them if you see them.
This is easier said than done, but the more you want to control how your
abundance comes, the more blockages you will encounter. Additionally, be
sure to let go of your deadline of when money will come into your life. You
might be tempted to set a deadline, but the universe has its own timing and

common problem faced by thousands of people every day.

Fear has the power to hold you back from taking risks, chasing your
dreams, or becoming successful at what you set out to do. If you allow it to
control you, it can eventually lower your quality of life and keep you locked
in a cycle of inaction.

Many people do not see that fear is merely a conditioned response. It is a
natural reaction to a fearful or unfamiliar situation. While it is usually
instinctive, there are ways you can overcome it.

1. Check your expectations. One major factor of fear is the constant
breeding of negative expectations. Do you find that you always expect the
worst outcome in every situation? Do you worry obsessively about what
could go wrong, rather than focusing on your strengths and capabilities?

2. Downplay your fears. Experts will tell you that most things you fear
will never come to pass anyway. While this may be true, it definitely does
not feel that way when fear has a grip on you. The key here is to discredit
those fears and push ahead with what is required of you.

For example, if you have a fear of public speaking, and your boss tasked you
to deliver a presentation at work, you might feel like your life (and perhaps
your livelihood) is on the line. You may fear getting dismissed, or worry that
your colleagues will lose their respect for you if you do not perform.
Take a step back and ask yourself if any of this is likely to happen. In most
cases, the answer is no. Instead of constantly worrying about what might
happen, it would be more fruitful to brainstorm ways to improve the
quality of your presentation, such as being well prepared, practicing your
delivery of the presentation on friends and family members and writing key
notes for yourself etc.

3. Do the very thing you fear. When you have internalized the fact that
fear is simply a feeling, it loses much of its power it has over you. If you
weight the pros and cons of any situation, and decide that the possibility of

basis. The point here is not to become reckless with making decisions, but
rather to empower yourself to know when a fear has no basis, which can

You hear it all the time, Success is a state of mind. There are people who
would argue that success is a natural result of proper planning, preparation
and focused action, and that viewpoint certainly holds a grain of truth - but

What is a mindset, anyway? Typically, a mind-set refers to your


predominant state of mind day to day. It's what you think about, focus on,
and expect from your daily experiences. Think negatively, expect the
worst, feel pessimistic about your options and that's exactly what you'll
seem to draw into your life. Likewise, think positively, expect the best and
focus on a successful outcome and you get it most of the time.

Makes sense, right? But how exactly does this work? Why is a success
mind-set so important? There are three big reasons:

1. A success mind-set boosts your confidence and self-belief. A lack of
belief in yourself usually comes along with a sense of powerlessness and
futility, which is the exact opposite of a success mind-set. Lack of
confidence means you see no point in trying to be successful because it
won't happen anyway. Obviously, this type of mind-set is a recipe for
failure in any endeavour.

Having a true success mindset, on the other hand, means you believe in
yourself and your capabilities. You believe you can succeed at nearly
anything you try, and you're willing to give it your best shot. Even better,
the more you do try, the more confidence and self-belief you build - until
you're virtually unstoppable!

2. A success mind-set strengthens your determination. Without a


success mind-set, one failure is enough to convince you that pursuing your
goals is a waste of time. Tenacity and determination don't exist in your
world. If you don't become a raging success the first time you try, you
surmise that it simply wasn't meant to be. Unfortunately, few things worth
having are obtained so easily!

A success mind-set, however, strengthens your awareness that a failure is
not the end of the story - it's just one more way that didn't work out the
way you planned. In fact, a true success mind-set makes it obvious that the
only true failure occurs when you stop trying.

3. A success mind-set begets fruitful actions. Have you ever found
yourself wandering in circles because you didn't know the best way to
approach a specific goal? Perhaps you had an idea of the best course of
action but you felt intimidated by some of the action steps required. As a
result, you may have kept sabotaging your efforts as you searched in vain
for an easier or less frightening way to your goal.

With a true success mindset, you'll always know the most effective action
steps that will lead directly to your goal. As already discussed, you'll also
have the inner confidence and determination to pursue them - which is a
sure recipe for..you guessed it - SUCCESS!

If I had to sum up how to develop a success mindset into as few words as
possible, I'd say this:

- Go for your dreams.

- Think positively.

- Believe in yourself.

- Believe you can do better.

- Learn, grow and develop yourself.

- Be willing to take chances.

- Give it your all.

- Expect the best in every situation.

- Be willing to fail.

- When you are at the lowest point of your life, the only way is up.
