Installing iPhone 4 Batterry 

Step 1 — Rear Panel

• Before disaassembling your


y iPhonee, be sure th
he silent switch is activvated and yo
our iPhone is
powered offf.

Step 2

• Remove thee two 3.6 mm


m Phillips screws nextt to the dockk connectorr.

             
 

 
Step 3

• Push the rear panel tow


ward the topp edge of th
he iPhone.
• The panel will
w move abouta 2 mm..

             

Step 4

• Remove thee rear panell from the iP


Phone.

             
Step 5 — Batterry

• Remove thee single 2.5 mm Phillipps screw seccuring the battery


b connnector to thee logic boardd.

             

Step 6

• Use an iPodd opening toool to carefu


fully pry thee battery connnector up ffrom the en
nds closest too
the top andd bottom edgges of the iP
Phone.
• Do not pry against the pressure coontact.
• Remove thee antenna coontact fromm the iPhonee.

            
             

Step 7

• Use the clear plastic puull tab to geently lift thee battery outt of the iPhoone.
• Remove thee battery.
• Before recoonnecting thhe battery coonnector, bee sure the pressure
p conntact is prop
perly positiooned
next to the battery connnector.
• Before reasssembly, be sure to cleaan all metall-to-metal coontact pointts on the preessure contaact
as well as itts contact point
p on the rear panel with
w a de-grreaser such as windex. The oils onn
your fingerrs have the potential
p to cause wirelless interferrence issuess.

Step 8 — Logic Board

• Use a paperrclip or anoother thin steeel object to


o eject the SIM

• This may reequire a siggnificant am

• Remove thee SIM card and its holdder.
          

           

Step 9

• Remove thee followingg two screwss:


o One e 1.2 mm Phhillips
o One e 1.6 mm Phhillips
• Remove thee thin steel dock conneector cable cover
c from the
t iPhone.
• Before reasssembly, be sure to cleaan all metall-to-metal coontact pointts on the do
ock connectoor
cable coverr with a de-ggreaser suchh as windex

Step 10

• Use an iPodd opening toool to gently pry the do


ock cable coonnector upp off the log
gic board froom
both short ends
e of the connector.
            

            

Step 11

• Carefully peel the dockk ribbon cabble off the logic board and the low
wer speaker enclosure.
           

            

Step 12

• Use an iPodd opening toool to pry thhe lower an


ntenna conneector up offf its socket on
o the logicc
board.
           

Step 13

• Remove thee 1.9 mm Phillips screw


w securing the bottom of the logicc board to th
he inner casse.

            

Step 14

• Remove thee followingg five screwss securing the


t connectoor cover to tto the logic board:
o One e 2.3 mm Phhillips
o Two o 1.6 mm Phillips
o One e 1.4 mm Phhillips
o Onee 4.8 mm Phhillips

Step 15

• Use an iPodd opening toool to slighttly lift the to


op edge of the
t connecttor cover aw way from thee
logic boardd.
• Use the tip of a spudgeer to pull the connectorr cover retaiining clips aaway from the t inner fraame.
• Remove thee connectorr cover from m the iPhonee.
• Before reasssembly, be sure to cleaan all metall-to-metal coontact pointts on the connector covver
with a de-ggreaser suchh as windex.. The oils on n your fingeers have thee potential to
o cause
wireless intterference isssues.

          
          

           

Step 16

• Use an iPodd opening toool to carefu


fully lift the rear cameraa connectorr up off its socket
s on thhe
logic boardd.
• Remove thee rear cameera.
            

            

Step 17

• Remove thee small circcular white sticker


s coveering the scrrew near thee battery pu
ull tab.
• Remove thee 2.4 mm Phillips screw w that was hidden
h undeerneath the sticker.
           

           

Step 18

• Disconnectt the followiing connecttors from th he top of thee logic boardd:


o Dig gitizer cable
o LCD D cable
o Top p microphonne/sleep buttton cable
o Hea adphone jacck/volume button
b cablee
o Fron nt camera cable

• It is helpfull to use the edge of an iPod
i openinng tool to geently lift thee connectorrs up and ouut of
their socketts on the loggic board.
Step 19

• Use a smalll flathead sccrewdriver to


t remove the
t 4.8 mm standoff neear the headp
phone jack..

Step 20

• Carefully reemove the logic


l board from the iP
Phone, mindding any cabbles that maay get caughht.
Step 21 — Speaaker Encloosure

• Remove thee single 2.44 mm Phillipps screw seccuring the speaker encllosure to thee side of thee
inner framee.

Step 22

• Remove thee speaker ennclosure froom the iPho one.


• Before re-ffastening thee speaker ennclosure to the inner frame, be surre the four small
s EMI
fingers restt below the lip of the LC
CD frame.
• Before reasssembly, be sure to cleaan all metall-to-metal coontact pointts between the
t EMI finngers
and the inteernal frame as well as the
t brass scrrew mounting point wiith a de-greaaser such ass
windex. Thhe oils on yoour fingers have
h the po
otential to caause wirelesss interferen
nce issues.

Step 23 — Dock
k Connecttor

• Use the edgge of an iPood opening tool


t or yourr fingernail to flip up thhe home buttton ribbon
cable retainning flap.
• Be sure youu are pryingg up on the retaining
r flaap, not the socket
s itselff.
• Use a pair of
o tweezers to gently pull the homme button ribbbon cable oout of its so
ocket.
• Do not exceessively straain the hom
me button rib
bbon cable as
a you remoove it, as it is very thinn and
fragile.

Step 24

• Remove thee two 1.3 mm


m Phillips screws secu
uring the doock connectoor to the inn
ner frame.
Step 25

• Use the edgge of an iPood opening tool


t to careffully peel thhe dock connnector assembly and itts
ribbon cablle off the addhesive secuuring it to th
he inner framme.
            

             

Step 26

• Use a pair of
o tweezers to pull the lower micro
ophone awaay from the bottom edg
ge of the
iPhone.
             

Step 27

• Remove thee dock connnector assem


mbly from the iPhone, minding anny cables thaat may get
caught.

he thin steell front cameera retainer off the fronnt
camera.
• Remove thee front camera retainerr.

• Carefully liift the front facing cammera out of the


t iPhone.
• It may be helpful
h to usse tweezers to reinstall the front caamera retainner.

• Remove thee 1.5 mm Phillips screw


w securing the front paanel near thee headphone jack.

            

Step 25

• Remove thee three largee-headed 1..5 mm Philllips screws along


a the voolume butto
on side of thhe
iPhone.
• Keep track of the washhers under each
e of the screws.

Step 26

• Remove thee 1.5 mm Phillips screw


w near the lower
l microophone.

           

Step 27

• Remove thee 1.5 mm Phillips screw


w near the dock
d connecctor ribbon cable.
            

Step 28

• Remove thee three largee-headed 1..5 mm Philllips screws along


a the SIIM card sid
de of the
iPhone.
• Keep track of the washhers under each
e of the screws.
s
• Remove thee small-heaaded 1.5 mmm Phillips sccrew near thhe sleep buttton.

Step 29

• Carefully innsert the eddge of an iPood opening tool betweeen the rubbeer bezel arou
und the fronnt
glass panel and the steeel inner framme.
• Do not attempt to inserrt the tool between
b the glass and thhe rubber bezel.
• Carefully pry
p the uppeer edge of thhe front pannel assemblyy away from m the steel in
nner frame.

Step 30

• Slowly andd gently lift the top edge of the fron


nt panel asssembly away from the steel
s inner
frame.
• Continue too rotate the front panel assembly away
a from the steel innner frame un
ntil it slowlyy
begins to peeel off the adhesive
a appplied below
w the home button
b area..
• Carefully pull
p the loweer edge of thhe front pan nel assemblyy away from m the steel inner
i framee.
Step 31

• De-route thhe digitizer and


a LCD caables throug gh the steel inner framee.
• Before re-ffastening thee front paneel to the steeel inner fram
me, be sure both the LC
CD and
digitizer caables are nott folded or pinched
p betwween the innner frame aand the fron
nt panel
assembly. This
T will ressult in possiibly damagiing the cablles and not hhaving enou ugh slack when
reconnectinng the them to the logicc board.

Step 9

• Remove thee vibrator frrom the innner case.
