How Jawa Pos
Achieves Domination
(And Fight The Future)

Power of Youth
Reinvention
Part of the Show Philosophy
NEW people always bring new ideas.
Jawa Pos is not afraid to refresh its personnel. Most chief editors of
Jawa Pos are under 40 years old.
With its youth policy, Jawa Pos is more open to new ideas. Always running
while other newspaper might be slowing down.
Daily
Youth
Pages
JAWA POS is the first news-
paper in Indonesia, perhaps in
the world, to have special pages
dedicated for the youth EVERY-
DAY. Since 26 February 2000,
Jawa Pos published DetEksi
section. Everyday. Three pages
a day. Consistently for the past
nine years (and still going)
This is a young section run by
young people. The average age
of DetEksi Crew is 20 years old.
From reporters, photographers,
designers, up to the editors are
young. Most are part-time col-
lege student.
JAWA POS slogan is Selalu Ada yang Baru
(We always have something new). Jawa Pos is a newspaper driven by ideas. Trying
new ways of presenting pages, new ways of using a newspaper.
Every year, Jawa Pos has a new big section for special segments of the population,
but have appeal for all readers.

NOUVELLE
New section for New Family
EVERYDAY, for one full year (2006), Jawa Pos dedicated three
full pages for new family. Meaning newlyweds or families with
children under ten years old.
Instead of preaching how to live, the page is full of games-
manship. It is the newspaper version of Shop Till You Drop or
Supermarket Sweep.
Everyday, one new family wins a prize to go shopping in a super-
market. How they spend the money and what they buy becomes
the story. Readers can learn from their stories, and compare with

LIFE
their own.

Begins at 50
LIFE is Jawa Pos newest special section.Started
in 2007 as Evergreen, It is dedicated for readers 50
and older, which is currently the fastest growing part
of the overall population.
Instead of preaching how to live, the mission of
the page is to celebrate life after fifty.
Everyday, a person over 50 is profiled in the page,
sharing life experiences and health secrets.
So far, LIFE have become the new DetEksi. Older
readers stay loyal to Jawa Pos.
A NEWSPAPER page dedicated to women is not new. In fact, almost
every newspaper has tried to cater women. However, not many were
successful. Jawa Pos For Her was published beginning at the end of
2010. With the special section, Jawa Pos tries something that has never
been done before with newspaper in Indonesia: To treat women not just
as a segment of the population.
Every day, four pages were published dedicated to women of all ages.
Everyday, more news and topics are dedicated to women and to support
women, in all pages of Jawa Pos.
Not only with special pages, Jawa Pos also creates numerous offprint
programs to support women causes. From simple seminars, road shows,
and many other community programs.
ONE of the most important factor in Jawa Pos success is its Part of the
Show philosophy. Jawa Pos have always been involved in the community,, driv-
ing the community towards better things. This philosophy creates a strong bond
between Jawa Pos and its readers. A bond that is very hard to break.
Youth events (DetEksi Convention, basketball)
Social and environment programs (Surabaya Green & Clean, Jawa Pos Pro-
Otonomi Institute, Road Safety Programs, Public Safety Campaigns, etc).
BIGGEST BASKETBALL LEAGUE: Jawa Pos started the
Development Basketball League (DBL), Indonesias biggest student competition.

DETEKSI CONVENTION: Since 2002, Jawa Pos organized Indonesias biggest youth convention. WORLD CLASS: Trevor Ariza, NBA superstar,
Thousands of students competing in various events every year. attended NBA Madness event in Surabaya.
PROMOTING REGIONAL AUTONOMY: Every year, the newspaper organized Jawa Pos Institute of Pro-Otono-
mi Awards. Promoting good governance at the regional level in Indonesia.

ROAD SAFETY: Every year, with the police department,

Jawa Pos promotes various safety programmes in the city
of Surabaya. The first helmet law was enforced in Sura-
baya, before being enforced in other cities in Indonesia.
