transition to discussing about the story they previously and how they can
relate the puppet making to the story they created. What is your fairy tale
story about? Who are your characters? Where is it taking place? Do they
have any special powers? What do you think we can use to make the
characters look like puppets? The teacher will then discuss the materials laid
out. Students can use any materials to create their puppet. Puppets are not
limited to specific structure. The character puppets must have a head, facial
features, body, and arms and legs. The students will transition to their tables
During: As the students are seated at their table the teacher will call
students by groups to get materials from the table. The students will build a
puppet from the materials given. Students will be given paper, felt paper,
googly eyes, popsicle sticks, markers, glue, tape, sequins, and recycled
materials. Students will work for 40 minutes to construct a puppet for their
story. If students finish early, they can make props to match their story as
well. The teacher will walk around supporting students who need assistance
After: When the time is up the students will clean up their area. The art
materials will go back on the art table. When the area is cleaned up the
students will sit on the rug to discuss what they created for an art talk.
