The TV always displays all content in UHD/4K. Since the TV is fixed resolution device everyth
and there is no setting you need to adjust.
If your source content is less than 4K (e.g., 1080) the TV upscales it to 4K. If your source is 4K
When you press the Display button (on the International version there is no "Display" button,
the TV isn't showing it's own display resolution, it is telling you the native resolution of the inp
which would appear if 1080 content is being sent to the TV.
So if you're playing something from your cable box that it outputs at 1080i, the Display comm
then upscales the content to 4K (2160) of course. (See the example image to the right.)
So the only time the Display option will show 2160 (4K) will be when the content you are send

The TV display has exactly 8,294,400 pixels (3,840 horizontal x 2160 vertical, usually referred to as UH

When you display something on the TV that is of a different resolution than the TV's native/fixed resol

Sony's term for a TV circuit that detects a 3-2 Pull-Down sequence and performs the reverse or invers
their work on TV, DVD, or videotape, they have to transfer film (which runs at 24 frames per second) t

What led me down the path of the differing FW is that until I updated to the 3.315 AUS FW I didn't hav
would play HDR content from a thumb drive, and kick into HDR mode, but even when you went into th
HDR content it just showed a blank spot where it should have said HDR. This is finally fixed and when
and there is a selectable HDR mode now.
I still can't get the sideloaded Amazon app to expose HDR content to play, just UHD.
The AP model doesn't come w/ the Amazon app on it. have to sideload (using the version pulled from
Amazon instant video. Unfortunately there must be some type of check that is telling the Amazon app
though it is) as I still can't get to HDR content through the app.
You can sideload the Amazon app and it will work (assuming you have a US prime acct.) Hulu will show
or a DNS unblocker that allows you to trick the playstore into thinking you are coming from the US. Se
to only streaming services. Unotelly allows you to spoof location for a number of services.

MotionFlow on True Cinema is, to my eye, a good setting for 24p content. It mildly reduces jutter by in
any SOE (and I'm pretty sensitive to it).
On the other hand, my testing of Cinemotion suggests that it is NOT for 24p content, but how the TV h
(or mixed interlaced-progressive) material. As far as I can tell, Cinemtion set to 'Off' the TV simply dec
something like IVTC. I believe it tries to recover the original framerate giving a more cinema-like motio

I had mine calibrated, but these 2/21/16 Update. These are my final

calibration of my XBR-55X850C.

engaged...not clear yet on why/how that happens.
[Aaronwt] It's working fine in my setup. I only have three UHD BD titles, but with all of them, a

2. UHD (4K) HDR content - this is HDR 4K content, is encoded as HDR

There are (as of 12/13/2015) four clips identified as HDR (lots are just 4K): Eldorado and Life U
bottom of the home page w/the color bars as the thumbnails. Hover your mouse on the thum

w/"HDR" in the file name. (The Wipe clips contain a color bar, and then scenes from the Eldor
Wipe clips simulates showing SDR vs. HRD via horizontal wipes in the clip while it's playing.
Play these w/the VLC media player (in Play store on the TV) from a USB stick plugged into the
network (even Ethernet). HDR mode is enaged on the X850C w/these clips - you can confirm
clip is playing. Eldorado appears to have no sound track.

Yes! Aaronwt was the first w/this player and confirmed it works well and HDR mode engages.
[Bullwyf} I did some quick tests with my XBR-75X850C and the Samsung UBD-K8500. The 4K
were just with the built-in features.
The good news: with connected to my TV directly as well as via the Denon AVR-S910W, HDR c
the whole path is HDMI 2.0a compliant. I tested that by copying my 4K HDR demo files into a
K8500's built in media player, the TV switches to HDR mode automatically and the "awesome
directly on the TV. Also, 1080p blu-rays look amazing with this device on this TV. I have it goin
HD/Master, ATMOS, etc.
The bad news: The built-in apps on the K8500 for Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, YouTube etc. do not
darn good, but the X850C's built-in apps are the best quality I have seen on any device. I hop
support to Netflix, Vudu, YouTube etc, at some point. I have no idea if there's HW limitations fr
of my HDR files did not play properly and one did not have any sound. Also, the Plex app on t
videos (HDR or otherwise). I assume the K8500 will fix some file/format decoding/compatibilit

I have to concur with others that the DirecTV installers are often clueless regarding connection
of a true DirecT-ready TV. Fortunately I had done some prior research and printed out some
hookup diagrams from the Sony website. Bottom line is that the direct hookup using the
DECA broadband bridge (supplied by DirecTV) works great, without the need for
the Genie mini. The only complaint I have is the remote response using the internal DirecTV
app is a bit sluggish so when watching non-4K content, I use the full H54 DirecTV DVR hooked
up through the HDMI4 port.
I have to say that this truly seems like a smart TV compared to my prior Samsung so-called
"smart TV". Auto-switching inputs and control of external devices is very intuitive. And the
audio using the TV speakers when watching mundane (news, etc.) content is pretty good
considering you can't even see any TV speakers. Normally I'm listening through my Onkyo 609
receiver though.
I do not have a separate Genie mini client box, only the H54 Genie main DVR
receiver, and I do have to pay the fee for an "additional TV" (which is the same as the
fee for a Genie mini). I am having no issues with this setup at all. The reason for the extra TV
fee is that it is possible to run a separate TV off the H54 Genie DVR while the Sony TV is acting
as a client by itself (though I don't have a second TV).

open/close rapidly in each lens to provide the 3D effect. Some people find Active 3D harder to

button on it.

Yes, I can confirm that the 65-850C is very sensitive to vertical and horizontal angle of view. Even mor
Sharp or my 65" 8550 Samsung. I've considered that a few people may be mistaking clouding or light
is actually just an excessive angle of view.
So, if you're one of those people who wants to mount the set over the fireplace, you better make sure
tilt sufficiently or you're not gonna be very happy!!

The simplest way is to connect an HDMI cable from HDMI4 on the TV to the ARC HDMI
or to your soundbar's HDMI connection. All inputs from an AVR to the TV can go over tha

An update on Plex 5.1 output from Charlyne

I have learned of new setting to make Plex transcode AAC 7.1/5.1. For those who may not be
converts one codec to another, on the fly. In this case, with these new settings, Plex trancode
DTS multi-channel to DD 5.1 (AC3). In other words, all 3 codec (AAC AC3 and DTS) will now pl
sound.
From the Plex home page goto Settings>Advanced: Direct play=Disabled, Direct stream= Off
All other settings and connections remain as outlined earlier in this thread. You will now have
3 codec.

What if you just can't get an app to launch/run correctly?
Couple of things:
-When you set up your TV did you log into your Google Account and accept both the terms of service f
necessary to make sure you are able to get the latest SW update for the TV as well as the app update

Alternative factory data reset method via Sony remote
This is probably actually harder than using the TV Settings option, but if you're having problems using

Just keep in mind this is for manufacturer's defects not any kind of damage caused by
external forces. As for being covered even for TVs not purchased through Costco, it states
right on the description page that you are covered for 4 years for TVs not purchased from
Costco (1yr manufacturer + 3yrs SquareTrade), but you get an extra year if you bought the
TV from Costco. Hope this helps any confusion as this is a great deal for those that want
some extra protection against component failure.

Nice kit, simple to set up, probably better size for 55" or 65" for a single row across the back. Stay
attached welll to the TV, and has an on/off switch on it.
[Danabw] Just a couple bucks more than the Antec, adhesive appears to be strong enough to hold
well, provides sufficient length to "box" the full perimeter of any set up to the 75", and has full colo
control, can be set to flash/fade for fun or when playing music.
I had to return this due to a fluke - my receivers vol up/vol dwn IR commands were evidently th
same as two commands on this kit, so every time I changed my receiver volume the color would
change. :) If not for that I would have kept this set - really nice.

I read the bias lighting section and gave it a shot by ordering a $60 set from amazon. Whe
have it on the clouding and light bleed cannot be seen. I guess the added brightness behin
the screen hides these defects fairly well so if anyone was considering getting bias lighting
be aware this can also hide some of the slight defects you might have on the screen as an
added bonus.
