Rinck, and Margaret Karagiorgis Our Name: Ritchhart's School of Thought The inspiration for the name comes from the ideas of Ron Ritchhart, a researcher at Harvards Project Zero. The school is driven by Ritchharts cultures of thinking. Ritchharts thinking routines will be practiced through daily instruction. Ritchhart's School of Thought Is a public middle school for students grades 5-8 The Purpose of Education At Ritchharts School of Thought, we believe the purpose of education is to provide students with a well rounded sense of knowledge in order to diminish ignorance, encourage acceptance, and prepare students for the real world. Our Mission: Our mission at Ritchharts School of Thought is to cultivate students thinking through instructional practices. These practices will incorporate Ritchharts notion of critical thinking. We want to spark and promote students creativity. It is crucial at Ritchharts School of Thought to expose students to the diversity in the world around them. GUIDING PRINCIPLES We will encourage students to learn through inquiry and experience We will guide learning by acting as co-explorers, mentors, and facilitators We will encourage students to be hardworking, creative, and determined individuals. We will foster the needs of all students and recognize them as individuals Vision of Education Our school hopes to help create pupils who will succeed as positive life long leaders and learners who will continue to innovate, investigate, and discover in years far beyond that of schooling. Administration: The role of teachers in the classroom is opposite from that of the Banking Concept. Teachers are there to spark students inquiry and participate in the learning process as a co-explorer. Educators should create an environment where group collaboration and productive academic discourse can emerge and flourish. It is also crucial to address multiculturalism and expose students to diversity in the world. Diversity in the classroom Diversity is the concept of embracing and acknowledging human differences.
In order to prepare our students for the diverse society ahead of
them we must expose them to several different cultures and traditions.
Each classroom teacher should incorporate readings and collaborative
work about other cultures
Students should feel welcome to speak about their different cultures
giving other students an understanding of who their classmates really are.
Things like field trips give students exposure to the idea of
diversity Discipline policy Students and teachers deserve an environment that is safe and supportive.
Our discipline policy focuses on recognizing students who engage in
positive behavior which will promote good behavior choices among all students.
As students progress through middle school they are given the
responsibility of making decisions.
When students make mistakes we encourage them to learn for their
mistakes by reflecting on them.
Discipline is something done FOR the student, not TO the student
