Emergency Nurse

An emergency nurse role in the hospital is to determine what is going on with the patient

before they get future care. But not only do they work in a hospital. Emergency means urgent,

unexpected, and usually dangerous. Due to that, a nurse that is trained and has the education to

be classified as an emergency nurse has the experience to help people in different type of sites.

An emergency nurse can have an impact on the patient's future care because they can have

a higher education, they determine and evaluate the patients situation, and they have an

emotional impact on the patients and their families.

According to the University of Saint Mary, higher education can make the difference in

patient safety in many situations (USM). Having a high percentage of students wanting to enter

the nursing field has required the education evolve to improve the patient's care. Having nurses

more prepared by having hands-on administration of medication and treatments, proficiency

with new technologies (USM). One of the most important factors of impacting the patients

future care is having studies going on to find out what the world of medicine doesnt know yet.

Even though there is still a lot of nurses that have a lot to learn and improve. They have already

evolved by having more knowledge of medications, the technological used in health care.

Another major factor is the after treatment and recovery. Learning more treatments and recovery

options is crucial. All that matter is that the treatment and recovery go easier on the patient so

that their future care can be easier for them and their families.

The first step to impact a patients future care is to determine and evaluate the patients

emergency situation. Each step of the algorithm guides the user toward the appropriate

questions to ask or the type of information to gather (AHRQ). The examination is the first key.

Being aware of what is going on with the patient and knowing what the next step to treat them

will be. Being an experienced emergency nurse will be great in these situations because they can

compare the patient to other patients they have had to determine what is going on. Once they

know what is wrong, they have to determine what kind of test they need and what kind of

doctors they need to see. On top of all that, an emergency nurse needs to be ready for any

situation. In Chapins word an emergency nurse needs extra training such as advance life

support certification, emergency trauma certification, advanced paediatric certification (pals),

neonatal certification, and resuscitation class (Chapin). Due to all the certification, an

emergency nurse has it is likely that they will impact the patients future care because they could

be saving a life anywhere. But not only do they impact the future care in health but they also

impact it by looking at their financial aid. Before treatments, they look at what the patient can

afford and what the best treatment is for them. Having the care that every patient can afford is

important because that way they will seek for emergency care when needed.

An emergency nurse impacts the patients health care but not only that, they have a strong

impact on the patients emotions and their families as well. People wouldn't become nurses if

they didn't care.... they'd become engineers (ANMFMedia). According to MHM Content, the

importance of nurses in health care, especially the impact they have on their patients mental

health, is something that has usually been undervalued, in both the healthcare industry and in

society in general (MHM). In Chapin words an important characteristic is to be able to

tolerate wide varieties of people (Chapin). In that case, they have to treat every patient with

respect because it will impact them. When the emotions are aroused, the brain takes note

(Hitti). If a patient is treated with respect by an emergency nurse they won't be afraid to receive

future care. A nurse has many responsibilities and many patients that need care. On up of that,

they are still required to provide support to the patient and their family and friends. Making sure

they are educated about what is going on and what the future care will be. By doing that they

impacted the patients family emotionally because they have felt that someone cares about them

enough to advise and inform them. Usually, the memories stored in a human are linked to

emotions. Due to that a patient coming into the emergency room might be in pain and fear. A

patient with fear is most likely to remember the kind of treatment they receive by an emergency

nurse. If the nurse caring and understanding of pain the patient is feeling. The brain will store the

fear of emotion next to the memory of the nurse being caring and understanding. By doing that

the emergency nurse has impacted the patients emotions, it has given the patient a memory of

fear turning into safety.

In conclusion, an emergency nurse will never get bored on the job because they will

always have different situations to deal with. According to Chapin an emergency nurse needs

physically stronger and be able to think and act on their feet fast (Chapin). Even after having

many different duties to deal an emergency nurse can still impact a patients future care by

having higher education, be able to determine the situation they first time, and impact them

emotionally.
