PROJECTS

Algal Lamp: The project aims at producing a lamp using either natural or recombinant
bioluminescent algae.
BioFire stove: The project aims at producing a stove which efficiently burns fuel (wood,
etc.) and produces electricity sufficient to charge mobile phones from the extra heat
generated using thermoelectric generators (TEGs) made of arrays of semiconductor
diodes.
Vein finder: To solve the problem of repetitive vein puncturing by nurses at hospitals due
to patients dark skin, thin veins, etc. a vein finder can be used. The product aims at the
rural clinics where nurses arent trained enough.
Walking gait bicycle: Project aims at making a bicycle which helps in rehabilitation of
knees by providing a comfortable motion while exercise. The project is guided by Prof.
Prathap Haridoss, Dept. of Metallurgical Engineering, IIT Madras.
Oscilloscope Drawing: The project involved making diagrams on oscilloscope using
microcontroller (Atmega8) circuit and Arduino programming.
Alarm watch for hearing impaired patients: Project was aimed at producing alarm
clock which vibrates instead of producing sound. We used Atmega328 to programme a
digital clock.

Projects under NSS:
Engineering can be fun: In the project us the volunteers of National Service
Scheme, introduced the kids to what engineering is all about and how they can view the
world from an engineer's perspective. There were a lot of creative sessions where we
interact with the kids (around 9-15 yrs age group) for solutions that they can come up with
in relation to the problems identified.
Translating Wikipedia articles to Marathi: Under this project articles from
Wikipedia related to science, technology and social science are chosen and translated in to
Marathi
