6. SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

6.1 TECHNICAL WRITING IN ENGINEERING TECHNICAL STANDARDS FIGURES

6.1.1 TYPES ( TABLE 1 )

It shall be used Type 1 for letters, algarisms and graphical signals.

6.1.2 DIMENSIONS

It shall be used the following total heights A ( Figure 1 ).

6.1.2.1 1,3 mm ( minimum allowable ) usual technical writings in very small

spaces.

6.1.2.2 1,5 mm technical writings which shall be emphasized, in very small

spaces.

6.1.2.3 2,0 mm usual technical writings in usual spaces.

6.1.2.4 3,0 mm technical writings which shall be emphasized, in usual spaces.

NOTE

In the case of posterior reducing of the Figure , the letters, algarisms and
graphical signals shall be elaborated with a total height A inversely proportional
to the reduction.

6.1.3 ELABORATION METHODS ( TABLE 3 )

It shall be used method 1 for the elaboration of letters, algarisms and graphical
signals.

6.2 TECHNICAL WRITING IN BULLETINS AND MANUALS ILLUSTRATIONS

6.2.1 TYPES ( TABLE 1 )

It shall be used types 1 or 2 for letters, algarisms and graphical signals.

NOTE

In the case of technical writing in a perspective view illustration, the letters,

algarisms and graphical signals shall also be elaborated in perspective view.

6.2.2 DIMENSIONS

It shall be used a total height A ( Figure 1 ) of 2,0 mm for letters, algarisms and
graphical signals in usual technical writings, and of 2,5 mm in technical writings
which shall be emphasized.

NOTES

1) In case of necessity, other total height A for letters, algarisms and graphical
signals may be used; however, A = 1,5 mm is the minimum allowable total height.

2) In the case of a posterior reducing of the illustration, the letters, algarisms and
graphical signals shall be elaborated with a total height A inversely proportional
to the reduction.

6.2.3 ELABORATION METHOD ( TABLE 3 )

It shall be used method 1 or 6 for the elaboration of letters, algarisms and

graphical signals.

6.3 TECHNICAL WRITINGS IN AIRCRAFT

6.3.1 TYPES ( TABLE 1 )

It shall be used type 4 for letters, algarisms and graphical signals.

6.3.2 DIMENSIONS

6.3.2.1 INSTRUMENTS

For choosing the total height A (Figure 1) of letters, algarisms and graphical
signals, it shall be taken into consideration mainly the distance for reading. Take
also into consideration the local legibility conditions and the instrument
dimensions.

a) distance for reading varying around 700 mm : it shall be used total height A
from 3,8 mm ( minimum ) to 7,6 mm (maximum);

b) distance ( x ) for reading is very different of 700 mm : for determinate the total
height A (minimum and maximum), refer to the following formulas :

The outer insulation shall be only marked and not sectioned by the knife blade.
The braid and the inner insulation shall not be touched by the knife.

A min ( mm ) = 3,8 x
700

A max ( mm ) = 7,6 x
700

BACKGROUND

NOTE

This item is applicable to transilluminated control panels according to AS7788,

and non-transilluminated control panels according to MIL-C-6781.

a) in usual conditions, a total height A (Figure 1) of letters, algarisms and

graphical signals from 3,2 mm (minimum) to 3,6 mm (maximum) shall be used;

b) in conditions requiring legibility emphasizing, a total height A (Figure 1) of

letters, algarisms and graphical signals from 4,0 mm (minimum) to 4,4 mm
(maximum) shall be used;

c) for elaboration of algarisms, it shall be used a dash B (Figure 1) thickness of

A/8 (Figure 1), and for elaboration of letters and graphical signals, of A/6
(Figure 1).
