4. DEFINITIONS

The following definitions are adopted in this Standard :

4.1 LINES

Any tube or Hose used to conduct liquids or gases. Accessories, such as tube
covering, are considered as a component of the line.

4.2 LOW TEMPERATURE LINES

Line is which the means (flow) temperature is lower than -40C.

4.3 HIGH TEMPERATURE LINES

Lines in which the surface temperature is greater than + 165C.

4.4 AIR LINES FOR INSTRUMENTS

Lines conducting air to pressure operated displays.

4.5 PNEUMATIC AIR LINES

Lines conducting air under pressure, except for instruments.

4.6 COMPRESSED GAS LINES

Lines conducting gas, except air, under pressure, or vacuum.

4.7 IDENTIFICATION GROUP

It comprises all markings necessary and sufficient to identify a line. The group
comprises colors, words and symbols, indicating function, danger, pressure and
flow direction.
4.8 MAIN FUNCTION

It is defined by the system contained by the line (e.g.: hydraulic, pneumatic, etc).

4.9 SUPPLEMENTARY FUNCTION

It is the system activity (e.g.: landing gear retraction, fuel releasing, etc).

5.1.1.3.1 Unless otherwise specified in a drawing, labels shall be placed in the

lines, according to the following recommendations:

a) they shall be placed in such a way their visibility is not affected by other
components in inspection/maintenance operations of the aircraft. Example: they
shall be visible and legible when observed throughout inspection windows of the
aircraft;

b) they shall be placed in straight sections of the line - they shall not be placed in
bending sections, welding sections, sections with tube diameter variations, etc;

c) as a general rule, decals of a same identification group (see Figure 11) shall be
placed in both endings of the line with extension equal to or greater than 600 mm,
and as close as possible to the endings. Take also into consideration:

- line with length greater than 600 mm shall have additional identification, with
a spacing that allows ease of displaying,

- line contained by different compartments shall have additional identification

in each stage inside each compartment,

- line with length lower than 600 mm may be identified in a same compartment
with only one identification group,

- an identification group shall be place adjacent to accessories, such as valves,

regulators, filters, and close to the line crotching.
REV DATA PGINA
P DATE 15 Sep 10 NE 04-020 PAGE 20
d) labels of a same identification group shall be placed with a spacing of 1 mm one
from other, in the sequence of the Figure 11, being:

- for aircraft manufactured previous to EMB-500/505 Program (EMB-

110/120/312/314/ 135/145, ERJ 170/190, etc),see Figure 11(a);

- for aircraft EMB-500/505 Program and up, see Figure 11(b).
