SIERRA NEVADA COLLEGE

Teacher Education Program

May 1, 2017
To Whom It May Concern:

In my capacity of Sierra Nevada College Supervisor, I supervised the student teaching of Whitney
Dumville during the spring semester of 2017.

Whitney was clearly one of our exemplary student teachers. In her role of student teacher, she had
responsibility for advanced math as well as math for challenged learners at the high school level. Her
teaching strategies, student management, lesson planning and overall program organization exceeded
expectations.

Among her numerous strengths was her ability to develop and implement motivating and creative lessons
that addressed the learning level of her students, insuring student interest and participative involvement.
Her circulation and monitoring strategies during the course of learning activities maintained an
atmosphere of academic emphasis and ensured an orderly and productive learning environment. Her 1:1
strategies with all learners maximized learner engagement and insured learner mastery of content for
even the most challenged students.

Whitney exhibits veteran teacher skill in eliciting student attention during direct instructional presentations,
as well as strong competency in varying her teaching approach so that students of diverse learning
modalities, competency levels and motivation remain engaged and at-task in the assigned activities. Her
learner activities comprised individual tasks as well as interactive and cooperative learning strategies.

Learning tasks were skills oriented, with emphasis upon higher level cognitive thinking process,
promoting student comprehension and concept development. Assessment of student mastery was
regularly accomplished through performance assessment strategy, with learner products and outcomes
resulting from task-oriented activities.

Because of Whitneys creative lesson planning, skillful implementation, and focus upon an academic
classroom environment, discipline problems were minimal.

My professional assessment of Whitney Dumville places her in the top five percent of the teachers that I
have observed. She receives my highest professional endorsement for a professional position that is
commensurate with her college preparation, classroom training and demonstrated professional
competencies.
