POSTAL SERVICE
April 12, 2016
The Honorable C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515-2002
Dear Congressman Ruppersberger:
This responds to your March 22 letter on behalf of Mr. Patrick McGrady, Mayor of Aberdeen,
further regarding the accessibility of the Aberdeen Post Ofice,
| appreciate your continued interest in assisting Mr. McGrady with his concerns. The Aberdeen
Post Office has not been altered in a fashion that would require construction of a wheelchair
ramp. Due to current budgetary and financial constraints, there are no plans to construct a
wheelchair ramp at this time. We will note this request and may reconsider this decision in
the future if funding becomes available. Nevertheless, please know that there is an accessible
postal facility, the Havre De Grace Post Office, located 4.5 miles fram the Aberdeen Post Office.
We appreciate the assistance offered by Mr. McGrady raising monetary funds to construct a
handicap ramp at the Aberdeen Post Office, however, itis the policy of the U.S. Postal Service,
in accordance with Handbook RE-1, Acquisition of Real Property and Real Estate Service.
sec. 334.2, to decline offers to receive donation of any physical improvements to our facilities,
including, without limitation, exterior improvements, landscaping, additions, renovations,
‘or maintenance services (individually and collectively) to Postal Service-owned and leased
properties, if the maintenance and improvements being offered would have monetary value,
88 determined by the Postal Service.
Also you may be interested to know that the Postal Service offers a number of convenient options
that can save customers a trip to the Post Office. For instance, customers can buy stamps online
through our Web site at wwwusps.com, by phone at 1-800-STAMP24, or by mail. Our Click-
N-Ship service on www.usps.com enables customers to print shipping labels with postage for
Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express and some locations provide Package Pickup service upon
request. Customers also can place their mail on hold, file a change-of-address order, or request,
the redelivery of an item for which a notice was left by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS or visiting
yww.usps.con
I regret my response cannot be more favorable. If I can be of assistance in other postal matters,
please let me know.
Sincerely,
