Running Head: Feel The World 3
On Friday April 14, 2017 I had the opportunity to attend Salt Lake Community
College Dance Companys production Moving Words 2.0. This production including 16
dance pieces that I have been asked to analysis this dance concert, there are keys
terms that I will be using. One what are the shape? I.E Are the dancers movement
curved? straight or angular? spiraling? What is the accompaniment or music (if there is
some)? Does it compliment or contrast the movement? How does the movement
work rhythmically, including accents and syncopation? Is the movement fast? Slow?
Different timings? I will be explaining each piece while answer these questions.
The piece that caught my eye on the dancers was called Sparking Up that was
choreographed by Dae Marcuz. This piece was very dark, seemed like they were
fighting death. There was a red backdrop that set the mood. All 5 dancers were in sync.
Their movement was very fueled and relaxed. The music that they had played was one
from Lorde. Which went great with their movements as they were wearing hoodies
which made the piece very interesting and changed their style of dancing. There was a
part that two of the dancers that rebelled the way that they would dance was
rebellious, like they were finally home while the other three dancers would be in a
routine though they had their hoods on. The two dancers with the hood off were dancing
this way for a little bit longer before the other three dancers forcefully made the dancers
put their hood back on. At that time everyone was dancing the same. The song had
made these two beautiful dancer feel like they were brought down to the pits of hell and
that they wanted to break free but they were brought down by the other dancer
influence. The ones that did not ever take their hood off. Their dancing style was very

rigged and seemed like they were forced to dance a certain way. They were no longer
In Will You Still Love me? Choreographed by Victoria Marshall was very different
the dance was more loving. It showed what love is and how in the world you can still
love. Compared to other dance piece you could tell that they are two very different
pieces. The way they extended their legs on their jumps it felt like they were free. For
this dance the girls had a black lave piece and the men had white collar shirts with black
pants. They were amazing and in sync and danced with passion. The dance explained
how we need to love our self even when the world tells us otherwise. The dancers were
able to tell their story very beautiful their piques were on point. The Mens legs were full
of strength you could tell that they had strength when they had to lift their partners they
did not waver or buckle while doing the lifts. There was an Asian man that could jump
very high and you can see the definition in his legs. He was able to do very impressive
extensions which were amazing. With the tempo of the music the dancers were required
to move a little swifter and they were dancing at a tempo if not a little faster.
The for Simple Pleasures, there are no words to explain the dancers and how
they danced. It brought light into a topic that Ive been reading about lately and that is
society is so obsessed with technology. Simple pleasures are about those that are so
worried about their phone and not with what is around them. As we watch the
performance you would think that it wouldnt be such an exciding piece. The women had
beautiful extensions especially when they were going across the floor, the way that they
dance showed that that the world is much more then just technology the male dancer
would help the women with their jump so that they could get up to a high altitude.
Running Head: Feel The World 5
The Final dance that I will be talking about is Ora Yeyeo choreographed by Lorin
Hansen. This dance was strange, both with the music that they had selected as well as
the choreography. It was an eastern feeling; their music was live. They had three bongo
players and three singers. They were very talented group though it created a god like
feeling. The way that the dancers would dance it felt like they were gods. Though as the
music got darker so did the dancers. It felt like the two sides were both good and evil.
Once the both dancer would job together it was like a battle. The extension of both male
and female dancers were just amazing. You could tell that this was a hard piece and
that, these dancers practiced every single day before this performance.
Overall, my experience at this dance concert was amazing. I was always under
the impression that dancers had it easy and that it was just a hobby. Though after taking
ballet 1100 I realized that is not the case. When I went it showed how much effort these
dancers would put into this production. This group was well prepared for opening night,
and they were talented dancers. It was nice seeing male leads and two men dancing
together in one piece. For them being a Community college dance company they were
an talented group.
