MISSION
It is the mission of the College of Law to:
1. make the College of Law of Colegio de la Purisma Concepcion the premier College of
this institution;
2. make this school a law school for the people;
3. build up our present students generation to become bright, alert, persuasive and
most of all develop their self-confidence;
4. be an avenue to form values of aspiring lawyers, armed particularly with the values
and guiding principles of this institution; and
5. develop techniques and ideals and with vision.
VISION
College of Law is not just for the advancement of legal education but also for the
protection and promotion of human rights.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
First Year, First Semester
Persons and Family Relations
Based on the New Civil Code, Preliminary Title and Book I, including a study of the
different kinds of persons, marriage and its effects as to the persons and properties of
the spouse, of the family and the rights and duties of the members thereof, and
absence, emancipations, and the use of sumames, with assigned cases from the
Philippines Reports.
Constitutional Law I
A study of the constitutional conventions, the judicial functions of interpreting written
constitutions, constitutional revisions and amendments, the constitutional relations of
the various governmental agencies, the judicially enforceable limitations upon the
exercise of government powers, and the constitutional protection to individual rights.
Criminal Law I
A study of the characteristics of criminal law and its sources, the historical background
of the Revised Penal Code (Act No. 2815, as amended), the nature of the felonies, the
circumstances affecting criminal liability and the extent of the liability persons criminal
liable. The course covers book I of the Revised Penal Code.
Legal Research
A study on law books and their use.
Statutory Construction
The study of the use and force of statutes and to the principles and methods of their
construction.
Natural Law I
A study of the natural moral law.
First Year, Second Semester
Obligation and contracts
Based on the New Civil Code of the Philippines, Book IV containing the general
principles of contracts and obligations.
Criminal Law II
A continuation of Criminal Law I. it includes the study of specific felonies, their nature,
elements and corresponding penalties as embraced in Book II of the Revised Penal Code
( Art No. 3815), including its amendments.
Constitutional Law II
Continuation of Constitutional Law I
Property
A study of the law of property, ownership and its modification, and modes of acquiring
ownership ( except succession), based on Book II and III of the Civil Code of the
Philippines.
Criminal Procedure
A study of the law on criminal procedure based on Rules 106 to 122 of the Rules of
Court.
Labor Standards
A study of the Agriculture Tenancy Act. (R.A. No. 1199), the Agriculture Land Reform
Code ( R.A. No. 3844), the Social Security Act (C.A. No. 186), other related Acts and
pertinent court decisions, rules or procedures and administrative rules and regulations.
Administrator Law
A study of the principles of administrator law and of administrative decisions; law of
governments; administrative practice; public officers, election law and election contests.
Civil Procedure
A study of courts, their organization and jurisdiction; nature of civil actions; their venue;
and the procedures that govern them; provisional remedies and special civil actions.
Conflicts of Laws
A study of the rules that apply to cases affected by two or more conflicting legal system
Taxation I
The court covers a detailed study of the general principles of Taxation, its constitutional
aspects, and examination of the decisions of the Court of Tax Appeals and Supreme
Court in Taxation, in general. The course also covers a study of the costumes duties,
tariffs and miscellaneous taxes, under special laws.
Insurance
This a study of the law on insurance based on Act No. 2427, as amended (The Insurance
Act), and the Civil Code of the Philippines, Book IV, Titles VII.
Evidence
This is a study of the law and principles of evidence and Judicial proof based on legal
provisions, treaties and adjudicated cases.
Legal Forms
This course begins with the study of the National Law of the documentary Stamps Tax
Law. The students are trained to prepare and draft various legal forms and deeds of
conveyance as well as the more important kinds of legal instruments generally used in
business.
Taxation II
This is study of National Taxation (excluding the Income Tax Laws and the Laws
governing estate, inheritance and gift taxes). It covers all national internal revenue
taxes on business and occupations, documentary stamps and miscellaneous internal
revenue taxes; Customs Code; taxes imposed by special laws; and Municipal Taxation in
general. The course also includes a study of tax practice and procedures.
Special Proceedings
Deal with Settlement of Estates deceased persons; Escheat Guardianship and custody
of children; Trustees; Adoption; Hospitalization of insane persons; Habeas Corpus;
Change of Name; Voluntary Dissolution of Corporations;; Judicial Approval of Voluntary
Recognition of Minor Natural Children; Constitutions of Family Home; Declaration of
Absence and Death; Cancellation or Correction of Entries in the Civil Registry.
Practice Court I
A course to train students in the preparations and drafting of complaints, petitions,
answers, motions, brief and other pleadings before tribunals. It includes trainings in the
art of effective oral advocacy. Whenever the progress of the students warrant it, the
course on court practice as described in Practical Court II may be started to continues
through the second semester.
