Have you ever gone a day or even hours without some form of technology, such as your
cell phone, or even mac-book? Have you ever gone an hour without texting or on social media?
Have you ever sat down and wonder how that device or the things that you can do on that device
could affect your body? Some people say they would die without their technology. However, the
truth is you might die quicker with it! Youth of today should limited technology use because
technology has a negative long term effect on our human body, social life, and education.
In the 21st century, technology has evolved in a major way. Technology is so advanced it
has made the youth of today very lazy. I hardly ever see kids outside playing around anymore,
and if they are outside they are texting or on snapchat. Just think how many times you order food
or even things such as a music artist album or clothes or toys for somebody you know. One of the
major forms of technology people have are cell phones. They have evolved so much in today's
time. I mean everyone has a cell phone and if you don't have a cell phone because you're too
young and then most parents will just buy their kid a tablet which is just as bad. Studies state that
cell phone use is like alcohol and drugs(KATHIANN KOWALSKI). When staring into a
computer or a cell phone screen it can give you massive headaches. Those type of headache are
called tension headache which you from looking at the screen for too long. From those type of
headaches you feel tightness behind your eyes and all around your head.According to studies eye
strain are one of the biggest complaints with teens who stay on their phones or look at a laptop
screen for to long as well. This can lead to more kids wearing glasses and messing up their
eyesight at a young age. According to a health article it states "When you sit in front of a screen
all day, your blink rate reduces from 20 times a minute to once or twice a minute," Dr Anderson's

says. "This has a tendency to dry the eyes. People who have dry eyes will have to use eye
Another way technology has affected the youth is their weight. According to the
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 10.4 percent of preschool children and 19.6
percent of children ages 6 through 11 are obese. This shows you that kids need to find a way to
be more active rather than sitting at home and playing video games or watching tv and just eating
because their bored. Most people think that kid Obesity is from eating too much but its really
from not working out. Being a little more active would help the rate of obesity go down. Kids
don't have that many activities that are outside to do most kids and teens play games on their
phone or even watch youtube videos all day. That's what leads to obesity technology has a major
key factor in that instead of letting it affect our weight the youth of today should use it in an
in Maryland and an adjunct at George Washington University, we have become more wired as a
culture, not only are we opening ourselves up to newer methods of advertising and marketing
bombardment, but we are also becoming more prone to multitasking, which means eating on the
run and doing whatever we can to save time, Working at a fast food place I see some of the
same people almost everyday come and get the same food everyday, especially being a teen when
your parents don't cook its easy to sent a text to pizza hut or the chinese food place to get
Technology is destroying or generation and more to come. Technology affects our body
so much and people don't even realize how much it is killing us, Emotionally physically and
mentally. The youth of today has one of the worst social skills you can imagine, And its all
because of technology. Let just sit and think for a moment if you are a teen or an adult and you

have kids what do you see them doing majority of the time? In their phone texting or on social
media or my favorite snapchat. How often have you seen them actually engaging with their peers
physically in person or even conversation on the phone. Most teen and parents would say never I
mean seriously most kids don't even call their parents on a regular or even at all. Most things is
through emails texts or any other social media message app. What happened to the good old
fashion phone calls. Youth social life has changed, with technology it has made some kids feel
more isolated with their personal and social life. Bullying has been a major issue for as long as
we can remember. With almost every kid having a technology device it has expanded the issue of
bullying.Teens are now getting bullied on social media which really sucks because once you put
something on the internet it can be remembered forever. Once you put something out there it
cant be erased.Kids are more bold when making a tweet or status. Having that power behind a
Students who unplugged their electronic devices for one 24-hour period felt extremely
lonely and didnt know how to fill their time. Kids should be able to sit their cell phones down
for a moment and get involved into the real world. The media that we call social is far from a
social world. Almost every teen has a Instagram,a Facebook and Snapchat and they have
thousands even millions of followers and still feel like they have no friends. Children need to use
technology at a ratio of one to five, For every minute of tech use there should be an equivalent
five minutes of time spent doing something else including talking to people, interacting with toys
that promote creativity and doing activities that calm an overactive brain. Kids being humans
especially when they are still developing their brains. Kids brains are like little sponges. If you
start a bad habit at a young age it can become a really big issue especially when they start school.
Technology in school can be a good and a bad thing. If you ask me the bad defiantly outweighs

the good. Technology is one of the biggest distractions in schools, especially when you are a
teen. Kids who are in elementary school normally don't take their technology to school, because
their parents have more control over this age group. But for kids in high school are phone are the
one thing we are glued to until the moment we get on that yellow big bus until the time the bell
rings for dismissal, And most parents don't take teens phones away because that's their only way
to contact them in forms of emergencies. Either way it goes technology is still affecting us . It
can affect or behavior especially in school it make us think in a totally different way. An article
in Psychology Today says that the use of technology can alter the actual wiring of the brain.
More than a third of children under the age of two use mobile media. That number only increases
as children age, with 95% of teens 12-17 spending time online. The time spent with technology
doesnt just give kids newfangled ways of doing things, it changes the way their brains work. For
example, the article says that while video games may condition the brain to pay attention to
multiple stimuli, they can lead to distraction and decreased memory. As a kid this is bad because
we need are memory for test and just skills for life and having a short term of memory is just not
effective in a teens or kids life. Most kids in school go to Google for everything. Kid who do this
will be good at cheating and finding things on the internet. But never will have the information
stored inside their head because of the easy access. Psychology today also says children who use
too much technology may not have enough opportunities to use their imagination or to read and
think deeply about the material. Because of their dependence on technology. The way kids feel
can be affected in school because of technology because while they are trying to learn they are
distracted with their social life and all the drama, It keeps them distracted from school and them
learning material. This affects the way they learn because it doesn't physically allow them to learn
or for them to rely on their own to do their work.Teachers have to relate the things we do on

social media to be engaged in a lesson. If we have to use songs and things of that nature to learn
we will struggle in the real world especially college to depend on our to understand the lecture of
a boring professor. Here is a graph that shows you how teens have been more consumed on
technology.

In the years of 2004-2008 it shows that teens useage in cellphone use has catched up to
adults. So could you imagine how it would look in 2015 2016. Teens are out of control,if they are
catching up to adults just imagine how they will be when they become adults. Teens are not
allowing themselves to have a healthy lifestyle. The are letting technology give them issues they

Many other sources however argue that Technology has impacted the world in a major
way. They say that over the past 60 years technology has changed. For an example one major
technology used is cell phones. Cell phones now and days have translators , spell check and
even cool things like checking your heart beat. Although phones and other technology has
impacted us and have expanded our learning it still has had a negative effect on us. We still need
a break on our technology it affects on our brain and our sleep and how we perform in school and
how we perform in school which is why I feel like it is necessary to limit it.
Kids should limit their technology use because it has a negative effect on the human
body, education and our social life. Studies shows that youth who use technology all the time
have issues with their social life health issues education. They have more negative affect on life
and attitude. This is very important that we limit it because of the long term effect it has it has on
us. People should be aware of how its taking over the world.
