M experience in English 101 was good. I felt like my teacher did a good job at helping us find
what our strengths and weaknesses were, so that we can better our writing. I also enjoyed peer
review in my last English class, because I felt like it enhanced some of my skills.

Martin Luther King Day to me is just a day to celebrate unity for all people, but especially for
African Americans. It means a lot nowadays with all the continuous racial issues, because its
good to know that at least somebody was fighting for African Americans. Also he opened up
ways for the people in order for us to succeed in the world as African Americans. Also he was an
example for the other people and groups who fight for the rights of African Americans.

The picture represents how the presidency basically goes. They make huge promises
throughout their campaigning, but when the time comes to accept those promises, they cannot
fulfil what they said. This becomes the reality, which is on the plate, because the food
cover(which is the promises) comes off & is no longer existing. Also the man serving the food
was wearing blue and he was serving the plate to a person in an American outfit, which
represents that that particular president was serving the reality of their promises.

My favorite type of movies are historical movies or criminal documentaries. Historical movies
are my favorite, because it takes me back into a time where I was not present. I like to get the
feeling of feeling like I still had a chance to experience those times through movies. I also like to
compare some of the historical moments to things that happen or happened during my time. I
also enjoy criminal movies, because I just like to see why people do the things that they do.
Sometimes when things happen, I wonder why it happened. Through criminal documentaries I
sometimes find out answers and what makes people do or think certain things.

I dont really listen to one person make a speech multiple times. Im not really into speeches or
maybe I just dont hear enough. One person I have heard make multiple speeches is Obama. I
enjoy his speeches, because regardless of the reason for his speech, he always seem to relate
back to his audience. He is always very passionate about what he talks about and about how he
addresses the subject of matter.

I feel like throughout high school I was taught the basics of grammar, but last semester in
English 101, I truly got better at it. My teacher really enforced grammar rules and we practiced a
lot, so I felt comfortable with it. The more practice I got, the better I became with grammar. I still
do have a few issues, but I havent master it all yet. Im still learning how to get better at it.

With my topic of mass incarceration as a modern-day slavery, I want to know more about the
steps that the government is taking to make a change to the amendment that is causing this
issue.I also want to know more about ALEC, who is a group, outside of lawmakers, who make
laws. The research I did in my genre analysis was like digging into a top layer of the issue, but I
want to dig deeper and actually understand more in depth, how this industry benefits from
prisoners as slaves.

The secondary source that I found was a documentary on the 13th amendment. It answers my
question How is mass incarceration affecting african american lives today? the documentary
shows real life people who have been affected by this, even told a story about a young man
killing himself, because he had been apart of the ass incarceration. The documentary does a
good job at getting to the audience emotions. It puts the audience face to face with these
people, giving them no choice to turn away from the issue.

Going home is the first thing that went through my mind. I just need a break from school, so I
cant wait to go home. I also miss my parents, so Im happy I can see them soon. Also I have a
Chemistry test tonight, so that is important right now too. Midterm week causes a lot of stress
for me, but Im just glad to be going home in a few days. Im just ready for a break. On a good
note, my first year as a freshman is over and its been a great experience for me.

My topic is on the correlation between the 13th amendment and mass incarceration. It is very
hard to find sources with different perspectives. A lot of people share the same views. I have
found two sources that differ from most people, but the research for other opinions is becoming
pretty hard. I have opposite perspectives for one of my questions: the government is the reason
for mass incarceration and African Americans is the reason for mass incarceration within their
race. I havent got a chance to get to my other questions yet.

I would give the video a high B. The colors of the images made it easy for viewers to pay
attention. Also the music was just right for what images were being shown. It was also good,
because it was easy to understand the purpose of the video. The video also followed a timeline,
which is a good strategy for conveying the message.

The law that I would recommend changing is the 13th Amendment. This Amendment abolishes
slavery for everybody except individuals who are convicted of a crime. Today this should not be
the case still. Slavery should be completely abolished for everybody including criminals. If the
Amendment continues to single out a certain group of individuals than its kind of like we really
didnt move past slavery. The issues behind mass incarceration is serious. Individuals are being
punished forever basically, which is not fair. They should not be sentenced longer, just so that
the prison system can keep people in order to help do the labor for cheap. Also they are still
being punished after they get released from prison. The 13th Amendment needs revision.
