Tool Grade
A prime consideration when choosing the appropriate tool for an application.
Our hand tools are categorised into three levels; Service, Commercial and Premium, each level requiring
less operator skill and care respectively to ensure a quality crimp.
A Service tool relies completely on the operators skill to ensure that the terminal and wire are
correctly positioned together within the tool, and that the relevant specification crimp height is achieved
every time.
A Commercial tool relies more on the operators skill to ensure that the terminal and wire are correctly
positioned together within the tool, but also has a ratchet or CERTI-CRIMP mechanism to ensure that
the relevant specification crimp height is achieved every time.
A Premium tool has terminal and wire positioning aids built in, along with a ratchet or CERTI-CRIMP
mechanism to ensure that all of the relevant specification parameters are met every time.
Wire Range
The overall wire range is also a prime consideration when choosing the appropriate tool for an appli-
cation. Often there will be several tools reference to the same product but having different wire ranges.
Tool Type
Choosing a tool type maybe driven by several factors; simply by type preference, or by the application
needs itself i.e: a heavy duty crimp, industry specification requirements etc.
Choosing the Right Tool

1. Check the db for the LP PN of your terminal(s) if not already known if not available contact your
nearest PIC (Product Information Center).
2. Establish the wire sizes that you want to use within the terminal(s) wire range.
3. Check the db for the tool options available for your LP PN if not available contact your nearest PIC.
4. Choose a tool based on; tool type, wire range and tool grade i.e: the standards that your application

With its three different versions the alpha 433 S (standard machine), the alpha 433 L (three stations

Pin Insertion Machines
Insertion Machine P 200
An X/Y-table with flexible PCB fixture is mounted on the base plate of the machine. The X/Y table
positions the PCBs in the desired position.
The product specific insertion tool cuts the contacts off the carrier strip and inserts them into the
PCB.
The lower tool absorbs the insertion force during this process thus preventing the PCB from being
bent.
Sensors in the lower tooling detect the presence of the contact after insertion. That guarentees that
the PCB will be completely populated.
An adjustable fixture allows the production of PCBs with a maximum size of 210 x 300 mm.
A simple operator and programming interface together with a large failure diagnosis make the
operation of the machine extremely simple.
The P 200 is equipped with a modem for remote diagnostic.
An X/Y table takes the PCB and positions it program controlled under the insertion tool. The product
specific insertion tools cut the contact off the carrier strip and insert it into the PCB. The lower tool
supports the PCB during the insertion process and prevents the PCB from beeing bent. Sensors in
the lower tool monitor the production quality.
The high capability multi tasking control allows for ease of programming and operation of the
machine.
With a large range of accessories the P 300 can be adapted to different production environments.
The basic model is equipped with a fixture for PCBs up to a maximum size of 600 mm x 400 mm.
Loading and unloading is carried out manually. The stepper motors of the X/Y-table and the 3-phase
motor for the insertion tool allow an insertion rate of 90 pins per minute at a pitch of 2.54 mm.
With the high end version, equipped with server motors for the X/Y-table, the insertion tool and the
lower tool, insertion rates of up to 180 pins per minute at a pitch of 2.54 mm can be achieved.
A vision system for the poisition check of the insertion holes prior to the insertion process and a
force monitoring system for the insertion force guarantee a high level production quality.
The P 300 is equipped with a modem for remote diagnostic.
The P 350 is a fully-automatic insertion machine with the ability to handle a large variety of
Tyco Electronics terminals as well as customer specific terminals.
A Standard P 350 machine comes with three base Insertion Tools mounted onto an Automatic Tool
Changer.
These base tools can easily be equipped with existing or customer specific conversion kits for a
large range of terminals.
All heads are equipped with rotary insertion fingers to allow the insertion of terminals at different
angles without the need to rotate the board.
The PCB transfer belts enable the machine to be incorporated into an automatic production line.
A Standard Insertion Force Monitoring System guarantees a 100 % quality check for each press-fit
terminal.
Our new operator interface has been designed for easy use and provides the insertion force and a
variety of production data to be collected at an open interface.
With a maximum insertion rate of 5 cycles per second we provide a production capacity which is

Press-Fit Technlogy onto PCBs.
PCB and connectors are loaded manually into fixtures. When
started, the machine checks the correct loading of the connectors
before placing the connectors onto the PCB. The tool then moves
under the press ram where the connectors get pressed one after
the other onto the PCB. The used press is a BMEP 5-T, a servo
driven electrical press which includes a force-distance check to
guarantee a high quality production.
