Dear parent/guardian,

Hello! Welcome to a new school year and a new year of learning! I am so excited to get
to know your child their interests, hobbies, learning styles, and more! Were in for a year of
learning and fun.
Id like to take a moment to explain my grading system with you, so it makes sense to
you and your family. I will be grading your child based on how well they meet the state
standards. This sounds kind of scary, but it really isnt! I will break each standard down into
easy to understand objectives for the students and for you. So how does this look, as far as
grades are concerned? I will be using a 4 point grading scale. In this scale, a 3 is reaching
proficiency. Receiving a 3 means your student is where they should be. To reach a 4, the student
is doing what they are required and then some.
If your student receives a 2 or lower, they can re-do an assignment. I will not have 0s, so
if your student does not complete an assignment or it is entirely unsatisfactory, I will mark it as
incomplete until the assignment is turned in or re-done.
If you have any questions about my grading system, feel free to contact me!

Sincerely,
Ms. Halstead
