SS4H1 The student will describe how early Native American cultures developed in North America. a.
Locate where Native Americans settled with emphasis on the Arctic (Inuit), Northwest (Kwakiutl),
Plateau (Nez Perce), Southwest (Hopi), Plains (Pawnee), and Southeast (Seminole). b. Describe how
Native Americans used their environment to obtain food, clothing, and shelter.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
The standard being addressed is SS4H1. The teacher will provide instructions in the flipped classroom tab
of the classroom blog. The instructions will be on a class group project. The students will pick one of the
Native American cultures in this unit, and create a 3D model representation of how they lived during this
time. Some examples of shelter are huts or igloos.
My students will have 10 days to complete this project. Ive given my students 10 days, so that they are
able to collect any outside material they may need. During the 10 days I will give my students some class
time to work on their project. During this time the teacher will be walking around, taking pictures to post on
the classroom blog. This will update parents on their childs progress, as well as invite the parents on the
10th day to come to class and watch their child present their project. On the 10th day the students will be
given a few minutes to present the project to the class, parents are welcome!.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This lesson will be a LoTi level 4
because students are learning about the unit. They will analyze the different Native American tribe. They
will then apply what they have learned about how people lived during this time period. The students can
then go home, and show their parents what they did in school.
Importance of technology: The classroom blog is necessary because it provides parents with upcoming
events. So about a week before we begin our projects the parents are already given details about it. During
this time parents may decide to donate materials for the project, or talk to their child about what they may
expect during that week. It also allows for the child to have the instructions to their project if they want to
work at it at home. The students can also use the classroom camera to take pictures and post their project
online. Some parents may not be able to join us in class, posting it on the blog allows the parents to see
their childs work.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
Some possible issues that could occur during this learning experience include displaying personal
information of a child, and inappropriate content. To minimize the risk of that happening I would have
obtained permission from the childs parent to publish any student work. I would ensure that the websites
we are on are free from pop-ups by collaborating with the administration and bringing more awareness to
internet safety.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. My goal is to really maintain a blog. I really want
to make that a part of my week; reaching out to parents, posting class work, or events. I think having a
classroom blog will keep everyone informed and included. I hope that Im able to excite my students about
publishing their work, thus incorporating them more. Im sure the parents will love nothing more than to
