REF: RECOVERY FROM BLACKOUT

POWER RESTORATION SEQUENCE

IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE OF THE MAIN ALTERNATORS IN A CLOSED SWITCHBOARD THE

FOLLOWING SEQUENCE OF ACTIONS SHOULD OCCUR.

1. Inform the bridge and call all Technical Personell to ECR

2. Ensure emergency generator has started. The emergency alternator will start up and connect to the
emergency switchboard and assume emergency load. Emergency lights will be on. If blackout will last for
more than 1-2 minutes.
Designated preson: 1 st Eletrician. See separate check list for EMG during blackout.

3. Check alarm printer for reason of blackout. Determine the reason for blackout and correct the problem.
Start auxiliary engines for bus A and Bus B, as soon as this is complete.

4. Check that coupling switch in panel 12 is open. Close generator switch for bus A and bus B

5. Check that cooling pumps starts up

6. Synchronize bus A and Bus B close coupling switch.

7. Ensure fuel oil pumps auxiliary engine is supplied from main switchboard.

8. Restore main power supply to feed emergency switchboard.

. Reset breakers for unnecessary consumption

o # 3 breaker air-conditioning units panel 6 and 19
o #4 breaker fan distributors panel 5 and 18
o #1 breaker panel 2
o #1 breaker panel 5

10. Ensure that emergency generator shuts down properly and is in automatic mode.

NB: During the black out the Chief Engineer will inform the Captain frequently regarding the status and the
progress.
