IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION
CLASSES CANCELLED FOR MAY 4TH & 5TH

Hello Stallion Families.

This morning, school administration, Academica representatives, the Somerset R.N., and agents
from the Southern Nevada Health District met regarding the gastrointestinal virus at SNLV. Even
though the number of students/families reporting symptoms has declined, we are concerned
about preventing further illnesses. To date, SNLV has taken every possible precaution (in
coordination with SNHD) to prevent the transmission of the virus at school.
Unfortunately, students are still being sent to school with symptoms and within 24 hours of
having symptoms. This puts other individuals at risk. The next option we will be taking is to
cancel classes this Thursday and Friday, allowing for a four-day removal from the campus.
These four consecutive days are especially important, because they will allow for any
potentially exposed students to go through the entire incubation process and return to school
on Monday, May 8th.
If any child returns on or after Monday, May 8th and reports any of the related symptoms, we
will require that they be picked up by an adult and not permitted to return until 72 hours later.
Please understand that we cannot put student health at risk and must take a more stringent
approach to minimizing exposure.
All school-related events (clubs, athletics, competitions, performances, etc.) will either be
canceled or postponed. Please check our website daily for updates (in News and Calendar). We
truly apologize for the inconvenience this illness has caused our families.
Please note: This was a decision made by SNLV and supported by the SNHD. We have NOT
been shut down or asked to close.

SNLV is doing the following during the canceled days:

Regular evening cleanings.
Disinfectant deep-cleanings by a specially-trained crew using appropriate anti-viral
cleaning products throughout the rest of the week.
Ordering specialized cleaning products to disperse to teachers.
Establishing further protocols for sanitizing hands throughout the school.
SNLV has done the following since Friday, April 21st.

Reported concerns and statistics to SNHD multiple times a day since April 24th.
Upgraded cleaning products to anti-viral standards, dispersed to staff, and provided
directions to staff.
Performed frequent disinfecting procedures in classrooms and bathrooms several times
a day.
Updated families frequently via 5 different school communication methods.
Provided guidelines for parents to follow in order to prevent the contact with or spread
of the virus.
Sent home all students who reported related symptoms.
Created an Illness Report button on the home page of the schools website.

SNLV will notify our families of the calendar make-up dates on or before May 12, 2017.

Thank you again to all of our Stallion families for your patience and understanding during this
illness. I know how frustrating this can be for your families, but I will continue to accurately
communicate all critical information with you as soon as possible. As always, child safety is
always our number one priority, and it will continue to be so.

Sincerely,

Jenyan Martinez
