UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


Knowing about the rise and fall of the state of Franklin is a part of unit 4.38.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
1. Given two YouTube videos about the rise and fall of the state of Franklin, students will pay close
attention.
2. Given a handout/quiz over the material covered in the video, students will complete the handout with a
partner.
3. Given a laptop and access to ToonDoo, students will create a comic demonstrating their understanding
of the rise and fall of the state of Franklin.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
4.38 Explain the events that led to the creation and failure of the Lost State of Franklin. (G, P, TN)
MATERIALS:
Writing utensil

YouTube
Students will need access to ToonDoo to create a comic about the rise and fall of the state of Franklin.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


Students will demonstrate their knowledge about the rise and fall of the state of Franklin.
Academic language not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson helps with the history of Tennessee.
Since this lesson can be the beginning of the history of Tennessee, I think any lesson after this one will build
upon Tennessees history.
I understand some students may have hearing problems, so providing a transcript will help them.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction: I will engage the students by asking them about their knowledge of the state of Franklin and
showing them a 1 minute video about the history of Franklin.
Procedures:
1. Teacher will give a little insight about the topic; asking students what they know about the topic, and showing
them a 1 minute video about the topic. (3 minutes)
2. Students will watch a YouTube video about the history of the state of Franklin. (10 minutes)
3. Students will break into pairs & complete the handout. (15 minutes)
4. Students will get a laptop and create a ToonDoo. (30 minutes)
Closure: To close this lesson, I plan to have my students create a ToonDoo about the rise and fall of the state of
Franklin.
