Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

Prior to admittance into any Nevada based universitys (UNLV, UNR, NSC)

bachelor education program, one must pass the Praxis I. This test covers basic skills in

Mathematics, Reading, and Writing, and is a requirement to be licensed through the

department of education in this and almost any other state. In order to pass this test one

must get a score of 150 in the Mathematics portion of the test, 156 in the Reading portion

of the test, and a score of 162 on the writing portion.

Exam Preparation

Back when I first found out that I had to pass the Praxis to get into bachelor level

classes at the university, I bought two study books one from an Advanced Placement

study book maker, REA, and one from Kaplan. The book from REA has diagnostic test

for all three of the sections in the Praxis. I have taken those tests that were offered to let

me know where I need the most help. After taking those test I have found that I need the

most help in the areas of Reading, because I have that my comprehension is not the at the

level it should be at, and writing because I am a tad off of my sentence correction. I found

that I need the least amount of work in Math, the only section that was not predicted to

get full credit on the official praxis exam were the questions that were about geometry.

After reviewing the sections that I had the most trouble with and doing so in both books, I

decided to take the practice praxis.

Exam Results

Keeping in mind that these are NOT official praxis results, from the Educational Testing

Service. This is the practice version to get me ready for the official test that I plan to take

this summer. That being said my scores were as follows,

In Math, I scored in the 72% range, which means that I am possible to either pass or fail

the Math section when I take the official Praxis Core Exam.

In Reading, I scored in the 20% range, which means that Im very likely to not pass the

Reading section when I take the official Praxis Core Exam.

In Writing, I scored in the 53% range, which means that Im likely to not pass the Writing

section when I take the official Praxis Core Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

I did this to see if my scores had improved any since I took the REA diagnostic

test. I have found that I have succeeded in what I am doing, when I took the REA test, I

did not get any right in reading, so the fact that I got 11 questions makes me feel so much

better, knowing that studying is working. My math has gone down a little since the REA

diagnostic test, so I am going to need to brush up on my skills, in the area of

comprehension. As for the writing the score, I got through this practice test, was better

than the REA test. I am proud of these results, even though they may not be as amazing

as I was hoping for.

I have been progressing through the studying that REA and Kaplan, I am going to keep

on that street. As I am not going to any Nevada based college, I have extra time to be

extra prepared for this test, I plan on using both of these books to maximize my scores
and keep positive. I will pass it eventually, many have tried and failed, I will not be the

first to fail the praxis.
