Refer to appropriate Briller chapter and exercise for detailed instructions. Follow the template
to organize your response.

TYPE responses.
UPLOAD one copy to BBLearn; bring a hard or e-copy to class to workshop.
SAVE an e-copy. You will be turning in a revised copy as part of your Final
Project.

Create three versions of a professional introduction (see Briller pgs 110-111 for help). This is an
introduction for at least one of the jobs you found in Practicum Exercise 10. Introduce yourself
with the specific qualifications, e.g., a BA in Anthropology from UTSA, you plan on having
when you apply for the position. Write it as you would say it -- you will be saying it in class!

Version #1: the elevator introduction

You have 15-20 seconds to pitch yourself to a potential employer.
Hello, Im Joseph Martin, nice to meet you. Im currently a research assistant in medical
anthropology completing my Masters Degree with the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Though I am specifically interested in Epidemiology.

Version #2: the busy/important person introduction

You have two to three minutes to pitch yourself to a potential employer.
Hello, Im Joseph Martin, nice to meet you. Im currently a research assistant in medical
anthropology completing my Masters Degree with the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Though Im more interested in Epidemiology specifically.

Version #3: the real interview

Hello, Im Joseph Martin, nice to meet you. Im currently a research assistant in medical
anthropology completing my Masters Degree with the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Though Im more interested in Epidemiology specifically. The Anthropological training has
so far proven an invaluable too in order make my work more effective and meaningful, and
has helped with the more humanitarian aspects of Epidemiology, like my recent trip out of
town observing zoonotic infection in a distant population. That is to say, seeing how animal
to human disease transmission was affecting a population on a large scale, as well as noting
the effects on smaller subgroups of people. Its important not just to treat diseases with raw
numbers, but to also keep in mind the more humanly outcomes that are inevitably going to
rise as a response to them.
You have five to ten minutes to pitch yourself to a potential employer, BUT you are being
assessed for your ability to be clear, succinct, and engaging.
