CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACGROUND

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, social networking has made an enormous impact on


the lifestyle of individuals around the globe. It has already
been a huge contribution to the daily social routine of the
people in various types of communities. High and middle-class
society is now into these social networking sites like
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. even low-class people are
into these social networking sites as well. These social
networking sites have played a big part to the global
community in terms of communication purposes.
Some use this site to communicate to their loved ones
across the globe. Companies and business people use it for
selling and advertising products and for gaining costumers.
Some also use it as media for gaining friends and for engaging
in relationships and others use these internet sites for
gaming purposes. But what is bothersome today being the way
students use these networking sites.
Social networking is helpful among students in ways such as
communicating about projects and tasks in school but some
students cross the boundaries of using such sites. Misuse of
such sites are what makes the social networking world
hazardous to all people involved in it especially to students
of minor ages. Whats more harmful is that it seldom leads to
the destruction of the students foundation for their future-
which is education.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

We are conducting this study because we are also part and


exposed in such addiction and misuse. We are also curios and
interested to know if this study can help us avoid this
addiction or if we are already involved in this addiction.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

This study aims to know the social factors that affect the
college students of CCDC to become addicted to social
networking like Facebook, Twitter and etc. this study also
aims to know how this addiction affects the students in their
everyday life/activities.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study determines the social factors that cause the


college students of CCDC to get addicted to social networking
that result to habitual absenteeism and effects in their
lifestyle.

Specifically, answers to the following are sought:


1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
a) name

b) gender

c) course and year

2. what are the social factors that cause the CCDC students
to get addicted to social networking that result to habitual
absenteeism and effects in their lifestyle.
a) attitude towards study

b) family involvement and concern

d) peer pressure

SCOPE AND DELIMINATION

The respondents of the study are 110 volunteer college


students of CCDC both male and female between 16years old and
above. We chose this them to be our respondents because of
their self-control in terms of social networking. This aims to
identify the students who are addicted in social networking
resulting in addiction. We intend to focus on the social
factors.
