Geometry Lesson Reflection:

My second lesson was about shapes. During geometry

lesson, I felt that I had the ability to manage children behavior by

modeling good behavior. For example, when I asked questions, I

observed that children shout because they want to answer and

other say the answer without raising their hand that made the

class noise which is bad behavior but, I was deal with this

situation by model Saeed how raised his hand to answer and

saying Look at Saeed, he is excellent child because he raise his

hand when he want to answer. As a consequence, other kids

were observed Saeed behavior, and when I ask another question,

the children were retention the raising hand behavior than they

reproduction the behavior. According to Albert Bandura social

learner theory, he believes behavior is learned from the

environment through the process of observational learning.

(Shirley & Peter, 2011, p. 53). I really enjoy the lesson because I

saw children share, help each other and do activities in an

engaging way also, they ask to play shapes game again.

Furthermore, I think that I supported children to

achieving the lesson goals and developing their language by use

(ZPD) approach. According to Vygotsky he sees the Zone of

2

Proximal Development as the area where the most sensitive

instruction or guidance should be given - allowing the child to

develop skills they will then use on their own - developing higher

mental functions. (McLeod, 2012). So, I was applied ZPD by two

methods. Firstly, I was given children instructions of activities

that help them to achieve and complete the activity. Secondly, I

encouraged their language to develop by provided groups

activity to encourage children to discuss, conversation, and talk

which assist him to learn new words, how to build the questions

and grammar. For example, when it's time for small groups I try

to divide children according to their ability, for example, I put

children with low level with the high level to engage children with

the high level to help low level to achieve and develop their skill.

When I was taught pattern lesson, I observed that just children

from the high level they get a concept very fast while other

children still so, I dividing them in a group, and I was happy with

the result because I can see must children get a pattern concept

by friend helping. Also, I used another strategy which is I observe

children how cant complete the activity and ask other children

to help him. For example, when the children in creativity center

and there is child cant create circle shapes as a consequence I

ask another child to show them so, he will learn how to circle

look to getting help for his friend.

In addition, I was good with encouraging children to work and

repeat positive behaviors by use Skinner approach Positive

reinforcement. For example, I side motivation words like Good

girls, excellent and well done when they child answer questions

also, I was given child how clean when it's time to clean up

stickier and l found that encourages children to repeat same

action again to hear and get any kind of reinforce. According to

Skinner, he believes that Positive reinforcement strengthens a

behavior by providing a consequence an individual find

rewarding (McLeod, 2015).

I felt that there are thingies I might do it better next time.

Firstly, is explaining and model the activities well before asking

children to do it. Because when I dont, I lost lesson time by went

to each group to explain the activities because they don't know

what the activity is. As a consequence, in next time I will model

the activities in circle area before centers time, and I will use

total physicals response to express the instructions while I said it

because some children can't understand some word well. For

example, I say stick the paper I might show them when I stick

the paper.

Secondly, is evaluating children by chick list instated of

observing them. Because when I observe them, I forget their

abilities and what was their weakness to found out methods to

improve their skills. For example, if the child doesn't know the

sides of each shape I have to write down his weakness and try to

teach them individually.
