Solid:
shock and vibration resistant

High reliability even under extreme conditions

Full-metal sensors are used wherever an application presents particular
challenges to the mechanical design. In the food industry, for example, not
only rapid changes of temperature but also aggressive media used for daily
cleaning stress the housing material. The same applies to applications in
machine tools and plants where the sensors are permanently exposed to
coolants and lubricants. In the steel industry or in automotive industry,
however, weld spatter is not only a strain on the sensing face but also on
the threaded sleeve. In this context the full-metal design with non-stick
coating and the robust sensing face are the ideal solution to ensure a safe
operation.
Moreover, the robust stainless steel design offers optimum protection
against abrasive parts in metal-cutting machining. Additionally, the
compact and short design permits use even in the smallest of spaces.

Constant correction factor

Kplus sensors have the same sensing range for all types of metals. They
are for example perfectly suited for the detection of aluminium, where
conventional sensors show a considerably reduced sensing range.
The high switching frequencies enable the monitoring of fast changing
switching states.
The resistant stainless steel sleeve allows reliable use in oil and coolant
applications. The wide temperature range as well as the high protection
ratings enable universal use of the new Kplus sensors.

Inductive sensors

Precise position monitoring

Digital transmission of target
distance
High linearity and repeatability
High IP 69K and wide
temperature range
Function and polarity selectable
via IO-Link

Much more than just a pulse pick-up!

ifms new inductive sensors with IO-Link incorporate several functions in
one unit. They can be used as switching sensors with an adjustable switch
point or measuring systems with a measured value transmitted via IO-Link.
The output signal can be set to NC or NO and PNP or NPN allowing many
possible combinations. This keeps the number of different types down,
reducing the cost of stock.
Highest precision
The new sensors are so precise that they detect even minute changes. Even
the true run of a spindle or the tension of a saw blade is reliably detected.
An alarm can be set if the target leaves the detection zone or comes too
close to the sensing face. All data acquired can be transmitted via IO-Link
and recorded. This new development is unbeatable.

Visualised switch point

The new capacitive sensors stand out not only because of their excellent
technical data but most of all with their new and unique visualisation
concept. Using a 12-LED bar display of the PerformanceLine the user can
always adapt the switch point to suit the application conditions it is
always in the centre of the display. The green LEDs either side of the switch
point indicate the reliability of the switch point. Deposits, material changes
etc. are displayed directly on the sensor and the user can readjust the
switch point precisely as needed. An imminent error can be detected in
good time and avoided thus minimising the risk of failures or deactivation.
If help is needed with the effects of process changes this is much easier
to explain and rectify with the LED display. Over the phone the user can
describe the LED behaviour and a support engineer can easily advise
corrective measures.

Easy solutions for difficult applications

In special applications, the ifm magnetic sensors with these new targets
offer long sensing ranges where other technologies reach their limits. In
challenging applications, the combination of magnetic sensor and target
can maximise performance.
Restricted space
New magnets with a small design offer easier mounting options in a
machine, even where space is restricted, due to countersinks or a thread.
Due to the new targets it is possible to double the M12 sensors range
while an enlargement of clear space between sensor and magnet provides
a more flexible installation as well as an increased process safety.

Function principle
The new MFH series sensor is suited for flush mounting in various steels.
With its 1.8 mm sensing range it shows reliable switching characteristics.
The new operating principle of this unit is based on a magnetic-inductive
technology that detects only ferromagnetic metals (e.g. steel). It is sealed
by means of an O-ring and a supporting ring towards the pressure area.
Applications
Besides use in hydraulic cylinders, the sensor is also ideal for other hydraulic
components such as valves or pumps. MFH operates reliably for the lifetime
of the cylinder. Furthermore, it is used in mechanical engineering processes,
e.g. in plastic injection-moulding or process industry applications.
Its attractive price means the sensor can also be considered for simple
components where this option used to be too expensive.

The alternative for difficult surfaces

Ultrasonic sensors transmit and receive sound waves in the ultrasonic
range. The object to be detected reflects the sound waves and the distance
information is determined via time of flight measurement. As opposed to
photoelectric sensors, colour, transparency or the objects surface shine do
not play a role. Blister packages in packaging technology or transparent
plastic bowls in the food industry, for example, can be reliably detected.
High performance
The ifm ultrasonic sensors in M18 design provide a particularly small blind
zone and long sensing ranges which are usually only achieved by sensors of
a considerably larger design.
The sensors operate reliably with heavy soiling so that they can be used in
applications in which photoelectric sensors meet their limits.

Photoelectric miniature sensor with maximum precision

The new powerful O8 sensor is an optimum choice for applications where
space is at a premium such as assembly and robotics. It might be small, but
the sensor achieves very long ranges.
Moreover the background suppression is extremely reliable and precise
even for the detection of very small, flat or reflective objects. The O8 reliably
copes even with constantly changing backgrounds, e.g. on robot arms.
Reliable and efficient thanks to IO-Link
IO-Link allows simple setting of the ranges and sensitivity, with the range
adjustable to the nearest millimetre. A complex adjustment of the distance
from the sensor to the object is not needed. The new sensors are also
available with preset ranges. With their reliability and precision they are
much above the average of conventional devices.

PMD distance sensors with IO-Link

Thanks to the innovative on-chip time-of-flight principle with PMD tech-
nology, this sensor offers all the capability of a measurement system. It now
comes with IO-Link functionality for simpler parameter setting and distance
value transmission. The signal strength can now be sent via IO-Link.
This makes it possible to distinguish many different components within the
same application by their object contrasts.
O1D is insensitive to extraneous light up to 100,000 lux and remains
unaffected even if direct sunlight hits the sensor or target, thus operating
reliably and accurately at all times.

Time of flight technology as standard sensor

The O5D with time of flight technology (PMD = Photonic Mixer Device)
combines the following advantages: long range, reliable background
suppression, visible laser light and high excess gain. In the same price range
as standard sensors, it is a clever alternative.
Easy handling
The switch point is set easily to the nearest centimetre via +/- buttons
and display or alternatively via IO-Link, allowing read-out of the actual value.
Any surface and mounting position
Polished, matt, dark or light objects of any colour: the O5D features reliable
background suppression. The unit allows any angle of incidence and thus
flexibility of mounting. This simplifies installation and saves costs.

It pre-processes digital signals in a decentralised manner and, if necessary,
passes this information on to a higher-level controller. This intelligent feature
makes it ideally suited for Industry 4.0 applications.
Versatile analogue value display
The intelligent display visualises different process parameters of sensors
with an analogue output or of transmitters with a standard signal output.
The freely adjustable scaling factors make it possible to convert and indicate
the input signals as physical values (e.g. pressure, temperature or volumetric
flow quantity).
If you use a pressure transmitter, for example, the volume of a tank can be
displayed. It is also possible to offset input signals against each other, e.g.
for differential pressure measurement.

The compact connector unit is simply inserted in the connection cable of
analogue sensors (4...20 mA). It displays the measured values locally. The
user can set a switch point or limit at which the transistor output switches.
A colour change (red /green) of the display indicates this unmistakably.
Critical process states or operational problems are reliably signalled.

A special feature is the signal conversion: The threshold display converts
analogue signals to digital IO-Link signals. Today they are required in almost
any modern industrial environment and for Industry 4.0 applications.

Augmented reality
The 3D smart camera is the first 3D sensor system with integrated 2D camera.
The video image is displayed with real-time graphics, symbols or texts.
They are either triggered by the integrated driver assistance system or by
the machine controller via CAN. Thus, the user can always see all relevant
warnings or other relevant details in the camera image.
Integrated assistance system
In addition to the 3D and 2D image sensor a complete evaluation system
is integrated in the sensor system. This system provides an independent
assistance system for collision avoidance for the user. Set-up only requires
just a few steps using the ifm Vision Assistant PC software. In addition to
the analogue video output the smart camera also features a CAN and
Ethernet UDP interface. The system can use this interface to supply warnings
in critical situations autonomously.

floor, is ready for mobile machines. Apart from new possibilities for vehicle
automation (AGV, automatic guided vehicles) this results in new assistance
functions for automation tasks.
Different integrated functions configurable via the Windows software are
available as standard.
The simple connection of the 3D smart sensors is carried out via the CAN bus
for mobile applications using the CANopen or SAE J 1939 protocol and/or
via the fast Ethernet interface using UDP.

Flexible configuration
The system detects solid, opaque solids and bulk materials in tanks, silos or
hoppers with levels of up to 10 m. The O3D reliably detects the load height
in machinery for mechanical handling, e.g. belts, and the loading of pallets.
The sensor determines the level via a defined background and transmits the
process value via analogue output or digitally and noise immune via the
Ethernet process interface. Alternatively, the O3D may be used as a point
level switch.
The measuring segment of the sensor can be adapted to the shape of the
respective tank. Agitators and other attachments can be suppressed via
exclusion regions. Various container shapes, such as hoppers, silos or
even inclined belts can be recognised by the sensor.
This means that for bulk materials the average level is indicated, even if
there are conical heaps or funnelling.

Miniaturisation for industrial applications

The new PV pressure sensor features a thin-film measuring cell directly
welded with the process connection. This technology guarantees high
accuracy in a very compact housing with only 19 mm across flats at a cost-
optimised price/performance ratio.
Applications
With the seal-less design of the process connection the sensors can be used
not only in hydraulic applications but also in inert gases. In industrial
applications the laser labelling on the housing is also advantageous. Even
in adverse environmental conditions, the sensor remains permanently
identifiable. Another advantage is the integrated IO-Link interface. Thanks
to IO-Link the new pressure sensor continuously transmits process values
and other important data, e.g. a pressure peak counter.
Moreover, the digital measurement results are more accurate because there
are no conversion losses by D/A converters or external influences (e.g. cable
lengths).

Absolute pressure sensors

As of now, ifm has added absolute pressure sensors to its versatile portfolio
in the pressure sensor range. The new PT05 series with robust metal
measuring cell, G 1/4 process connection, M12 connector and analogue
output is available in the common pressure ranges up to 10 bar.
Operating principle
Absolute pressure sensors operate independently of the surrounding air
pressure; that is what distinguishes them from sensors working on a relative
measurement principle. The measurement is not influenced by weather-
and altitude-related fluctuations of air pressure. This is often a decisive factor
in vacuum applications, which require a fine pressure control.
Absolute pressure sensors do not require ventilation, therefore incorrect
measurement due to a blocked exhaust is impossible.
In the field of pressure sensors the new units stand out as specialists for
specific duties.

and a colour change of text and background guarantee a quick overview.
By means of buttons the user can trigger control actions of the PLC or
acknowledge messages.
The E30430 IO-Link inline display is installed between sensor and IO-Link
master. It receives process values directly from the sensor. No PLC program-
ming is required. It displays up to four process values and two switching
states. For ifm units operated in the IO-Link mode, it is a plug & play solution.
Alternatively, texts and settings can be predetermined via an IO-Link device
tool such as LR DEVICE.

Fast response time and

Red/green colour change for

Internal pipe diameter selectable

Measurement technique
The SA volumetric flow sensor operates using the calorimetric measuring
principle. Measuring elements as well as a heat source are located on the
measuring tip. The physical effect that a flowing medium absorbs heat
energy and conducts it away is used. The resulting temperature change is
an indication of flow.
Device function
The new SA-type sensor has been designed to detect and measure flow
and temperature even in large internal pipe diameters up to 400 mm.
A serial number on the device enables unambiguous traceability.
Therefore it serves different applications. Switching outputs, analogue

Level under control

The LMC family reliably monitors levels, e.g. in machine tools or wastewater
management, or protects pumps from running dry. The option of a thread
at the back permits variable installation depths and application-specific
installation.
Versatile sensor for all media
The LMC sensor can be set to almost any liquid or viscous medium as well
as to bulk materials. Permanent medium temperatures up to 100 C or a
heavy build-up are no problem.
The differentiation between two media is possible due to the two switching
outputs which can be set independently. The parameters can be set with
IO-Link and USB interface accessory E30396.

Flexible in use
The functionality of the temperature sensor TV is impressive. Due to its
extremely compact design the TV sensor can be installed where space is at
a premium. The device has two switch points, operates with an extremely
high precision and can be set easily and quickly via the LR DEVICE.
Efficient and reliable thanks to IO-Link
Thanks to IO-Link the new temperature sensor continuously transmits
process values and other important data, e.g. min. / max. temperature.
Moreover, the digital measurement results are more accurate because there
are no conversion losses by D/A converters or external influences (e.g. cable
lengths). Devices with preset measuring ranges (analogue start and end
points) are no longer needed because the real process value is transmitted.
This reduces stock. Soon conventional transmitters will be a thing of the past.

Accuracy: 3 K

Convenient and reliable setting

The TK type temperature sensors are sensors to monitor liquids and gases
with switch points that can be set intuitively via two radial setting rings.
Wherever simple solutions are needed, the TK series sensors are a real
alternative. Complicated parameter setting via software is not necessary.
The requested temperature is set via the setting rings allowing optimum
read-out without your installation having to be in operation. In addition,
the switching states are clearly displayed via LEDs.
Versions
The sensors are available with a setpoint and a reset point (TK6xxx) or
two switch points with a fixed hysteresis (TK7xxx). The TK series temperature
sensors are always the optimum choice for quick and simple use.

What is new is the quick and easy handling via three pushbuttons.
The display can be switched from the indication of red to an alternating
indication of red - green.
So, switching states can be highlighted or an independent colour window
can be created. The sensor head can be rotated and offers optimum
readability from any position. Thanks to captive laser labelling on the
stainless steel housing, the units can still be identified after years.

Energy limitation for UL class 2 units
Many sensors require an energy-limited supply with UL class 2 approval.
The limitation of energy is usually achieved via a corresponding power
supply. With the AL series IO-Link master, sensors can be supplied according
to UL class 2 without using an energy-limited power supply approved to
UL class 2.

RFID compact units suitable for mobile use

The robust RFID compact units with CANopen or J1939 interface have
been developed for identification tasks in agricultural machines, municipal
vehicles and construction machines. This guarantees a quick and safe
change of the attachments. The machine operator knows which units are
connected at any time.
He also receives exact information on operating times and maintenance
intervals. This allows new service scenarios.
Simple solution from ifm
RFID antenna, evaluation and interface are integrated in one compact and
robust M18 or M30 housing.

Modern vehicles and mobile machines need very powerful control electronics
to process the high number of input and output signals.
That is why the new third generation ecomatController was developed:
It has two independent, powerful 32-bit PLCs one of them a certified
safety controller.
In addition to its multifunctional inputs and outputs with diagnostic
capabilities, the unit features two Ethernet ports and four CAN interfaces.
The CAN interfaces support all important bus protocols (CANopen,
CANopen Safety and J1939) as well as the transparent and preprocessed
data exchange. The control functions are easily integrated into the applica-
tion program thanks to CODESYS programming (version 3.5).

ioControl is a decentralised I/O module connected to the controller via
CAN bus. It is installed away from the controller on remote machine parts
right where the signals are generated. The high protection rating makes it
suitable for outdoor installation in wet and dirty areas.
DEUTSCH connectors, which are widely used in mobile automation, ensure
an easy and safe connection of sensors and actuators. Networking of the
CAN bus is effected via prewired drop cables.
ioControl can either be used as a configurable I/O module or as a mini
controller in the field. CODESYS is used as a programming system.

Real-time measurement for mobile machines

The exact system time is an important function for many mobile applications.
While in large and complex machines this task is often fulfilled by the central
display, up to now, there was no affordable solution for mobile applications
when it came to small and compact machines.
In its compact automotive relay housing, the CANrtc real-time clock can
offer this functionality. Its parameters can be set via the CAN bus while it
provides the current time and date. Via an integrated alarm output, it is
possible to execute functions such as starting the machine controller.
For the CANrtc, a software library of the CODESYS software is available
that is compatible with IEC61131-3. This makes it particularly easy to quickly
implement the application software.

Safety on the 24 V side

As opposed to the 230 V primary side, the circuit protection in the
secondary circuit is often neglected. Another issue is that in the event of a
failure of the 24 V DC voltage supply standard mechanical circuit breakers
often do not trigger. This may happen with long cables, for example.
The electronic circuit breakers from ifm monitor the circuit ideally and,
if required, disconnect reliably. Individual branch circuits can be selectively
disconnected. This allows a reduction of wire cross-sections in the load
circuit of the switched-mode power supplies. The system has a modular
structure and can be ideally adapted to the circuits of plant and machinery.
The IO-Link version also allows evaluation of important diagnostic data.
