Colubris Networks

Mobile Access Points 320/330 in Autonomous Mode and

with Multi-Service Controllers 5200/5500
VIEW Certified Configuration and Deployment Guide
SpectraLinks Voice Interoperability for Enterprise Wireless (VIEW) Certification
Program is designed to ensure interoperability and high performance between NetLink
Wireless Telephones and WLAN infrastructure products.
The products listed in the following section have been thoroughly tested in SpectraLinks
lab using the VIEW Certification Test Plan. This document details how to configure
Colubris Networks Multi-Service Access Points (MAP-320 and MAP-330) in
autonomous mode and with Multi-Service Controllers (MSC-5200 and MSC-5500), with
NetLink Wireless Telephones.

Maximum telephone calls per AP: 12
Recommended network topology: Switched Ethernet (recommended)
Denotes products directly used in Certification Testing

The Colubris access points (APs) were VIEW Certified with Wireless
Controllers; however, it was confirmed that the APs behave exactly the
same in autonomous mode. The controllers allow Layer 3 roaming of the
NetLink Wireless Telephones. Layer 3 roaming is not supported in
autonomous mode.

Configuration Settings
The settings listed below are recommended for Colubris Networks MSCs and MAPs.
Note that the terms Virtual Service Community (VSC) and Virtual Access Point (VAP)
can be used interchangeably. Also, since VSCs are accessed by a unique SSID, in some
cases the terms SSID, VAP and VSC can be used interchangeably.
DTIM value (for voice VSC): 3
Power settings: Max Power (default)
All other settings: Default values

The Colubris Networks MAPs allow the following quality of service (QoS) settings and
options on a per-VSC basis.
QoS settings: DiffServ
(SVP protocol automatically prioritized) 802.1p
TCP/UDP port numbers based QoS
TOS
QoS options: VAP-based Very High (for voice-only VSC)
(SSID/VAP/VSC-based QoS) High
Normal
Low
Disabled (not recommended for voice)

For a voice VSC with an SSID dedicated to voice only, which is recommended for
NetLink Wireless Telephones, select the VAP-Based Very High option. Do not connect
data to the same SSID; doing so will allow data packets will get the same priority as voice
packets while trying to access the channel, regardless of the protocol used inside the IP
header. The VAP-Based Very High option primarily allows legacy clients to be prioritized by
SSID, if desired. Do not select the Disabled option because that will completely disable
QoS processing for that VSC.

When using NetLink Wireless Telephones, you can select any value and
the highest priority attribute will be executed automatically.

Additional settings recommended:

Multicast data rate: Highest value (per-radio setting)
VSC minimum/maximum data rate: Lowest/highest
Upstream/DiffServ Tagging: Disabled (Not default)
Advertise Tx Power: Disabled (default)
Advertise WMM: Disabled (Not default)
Power (for roaming tests): Adjust to cause roaming

13. Set QoS priority mechanism to VAP-based Very High. *

* When using NetLink Wireless Telephones, select any value, and the
highest priority attribute will be executed automatically.

14. Disable Upstream diff serv tagging and WMM advertising.

15. Set Minimum rate to lowest available.
16. Set Maximum rate to highest available.

During VIEW Certification testing, NetLink Wireless Telephones were
configured with static IP addresses to test Layer 3 Mobility. Normally,
DHCP would be used to create the clients IP address. During L3
roaming, the clients IP address will remain unchanged as it roams from
one subnet to another.

Configuring the MSC-5200/MSC-5500
1. You must have a valid license file installed on each MSC to enable L3 Mobility.

2. No additional configuration is required on the MSCs. For instructions on how to

connect to the MSC-5200/MSC-5500 for your configuration, please refer to the
Setup and Installation Guide that came with the product.
