Annotated Bibliography
Impact of Media Use on Children and Youth. Paediatrics & Child Health 8.5 (2003): 301306.
Print.
This journal discusses how television impacts childhood development based on what the
child is exposed too. Television can impact children by exposing them to excessive amounts of
violence, irresponsible sexual behavior and can increase the percentage of obesity. Overall the
journal is very detailed in explaining what specific areas that television impacts childhood
development. It also explains how the amount of hours have increased. But the other positive
aspect of television is that it can be an educational factor to visual learners. This journal is useful
to the theme of the annotated bibliography because television is in the media field. It relates to
how it affects childs health and the level at which it impacts children. Parents need to be more
aware of what their children is seeing and comprehending because parents will be surprised
when their children knows more than what theyre exposed too. Which revolves back to theme of
this bibliography.

This article was published from The Huffington Post, summarizing the effects of social
medias impact on children health. It discussed how children and teens spend so much time on
social media to stay in touch with other people. I think this news report did an excellent job
discussing important facts about how much time is used on social media. It also discussed health
issues such as depression and sleep deprivation. We need more news report that discuss
important facts about social medias effect on people. This relates to the theme of media
impacting people and especially children, because social media is commonly used media today.
It is imperative that people realize that online communication has led to cases of cyberbullying
among children and teens. The theme will show how this article is very useful in revealing to
American Academy of Pediatrics . "Impact of Music, Music Lyrics, and Music Videos on
Children and Youth ." AAP News & Journals Gateway 124 (2009).
The American Academy of Pediatrics scholarly journal discusses the impact of music,
lyrics and videos. Music is another section of media in which users listen to almost every hour of
day. However, people feel as though music lyrics promote drugs, alcohol and sexual activity, but
some listen to music or the lyrics to find correlation into their life. This journal gave credible
information and statistics that gave me a better understanding of the topic. It also allowed to see
that the topic itself has an effect on children and adolescents. That what we see and listen to can
have a positive or negative effect, but the journal let us decide what we will choose to let it do.

This journal relates to the theme of media impacting the health and mental health of todays
youth. Music plays its vital role in the media industry and has its effects on society.
Steyer, James P. The Other Parent: The Inside Story of the Media's Effect on Our Children .
Steyer discusses how parents need to be more aware of the specific type of media that
their children interact with. The book also tackles how media exposes children to violence,
sexual activities and capitalistic America. The novel allows parents to realize that the media does
not always portray positive messages. Also, the book gives it readers the tools and resources to
be wiser, on-guard and can teach their children important lessons. Steyer relates his book to the
theme of the annotated bibliography. Media effects children and their mental health and
development. They do not need to be exposed to adult content at an early age because that can
lead to them committing what ones are doing in the media. This book jumps back to my theme
and it shows the inside effect on what media is and how it affects everyone. However, it
mainly impacts children and we need to be more cognizant on what children are exposing
themselves too.

Vanderbilts psychology page discusses how video games effect childrens mental health
and make them more prone to violence. Not only does it make them more prone to violence; it
also makes them have a higher chance of obesity. With them spending over ten hours a day on
video games or other media outlets. They are lacking the necessary exercise that they need on a
regular basis. This website has valuable research and sufficient information, for anyone that
wants to know how and why media effects children, teens, etc. It is somewhat lengthy but the
information is beneficial to help save your children from mental and physical issues. Video
games is another media that is also very time consuming. It also relates by showing the negative
effects of video games although theyre positive aspects of playing games. It shows that what
children are exposed to have a higher chance of becoming what they see.
