Literacy Plan

Based off my knowledge for READ 436 and READ 366, as well as my
experiences in two practicum placements, both in which included an
immersion week I have developed what I would consider my ideal
literacy diet to implemented each week in my classroom based off
Allingtons 6 Ts of Effective Elementary Literacy Instruction.

Relation to Allingtons Six Ts:

Time: Most days have been given a 90 minute reading block that will

hopefully produce work that is relative to that time. Different aspects

of the language arts diet has been spread across this week.
Text: Different texts will be dispersed depending on the activity at the

time. The class library will have at least 10 books per student and the

books will be leveled appropriately.

Task: Student will be accustomed to the weekly routine. Students will

receive a mix of different media to use and not just be using paper and

pencil throughout literacy time. Critical thinking will be the focus of

each task versus of completion.

Teaching/Talk: During this time I will be actively teaching and

modeling every activity and lesson I plan for students to participate in.

I will make an effort to talk with students instead of talking at them.

Relating to students interests and strengths will be an important

aspect of this time.

Testing: Different formative and summative assessing will take place

during the language arts diet. Some of the assessing that will take

place during this time will be spelling tests, morning work, portfolio

work, and journals.
