Philosophy of Education
Education is a big part of our world, from the beginning of time man has strived

to know more about the world in which we live, this is the fundamentals that society was built

on. We continue everyday to learn more and more. The ancient Greek philosopher Leucippus is

considered the originator of the theory of atomism. In philosophy, atomism refers to the theory

that indivisible particles combine in different arrangements to compose everything in the

physical world. He founded this theory by studying the physical world, and analyzing

everything. As students we do not understand how important learning is, it brings us structure

and knowledge we may not have previously found. Learning is a two way street, the teacher and

student must be on the same page in order for this to occur.

Teachers are one of the major roles needed in education. In this career field it is our job to

guide, inspire, and motivate our students to achieve their goals. Moat teachers have strayed away

from the important building blocks of teaching; the students needs, and how they learn. They

have strayed on the path of state required testing, only teaching what they have to. These

individuals forget that teaching is about capturing the minds and hearts of the students. Teachers

must get back to what makes this career so worthwhile, helping the students learn. Watching the

lightbulbs go off in their brains, and knowing that at the end of the day you have made an impact

in someones life. We need to remember that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers you

can pursue.

There are many different types of learning styles we need to be aware of. No two students

are alike, this means we must exercise all learning styles in the classroom. We can provide the

students with the skills and utensils they need to succeed by teaching with a variety of different

learning styles. Essenually accommodating to every students learning needs, this way no student

is left behind or skipped over and all have equal opportunity to do their best in the classroom.

Students need to learn and form the habit of studying facts and evidence rather than opinions or

conclusions. This can be learned from examples set by the teacher.

From the eyes of a student, learning and education is often looked over. Many students

fail to realize that without the education system, their lives would fail to have structure or

academic knowledge. They see the classroom and school as a prison; we can change this mind

set by creating a safe, fun, comfortable learning environment in the classroom. We can create

this atmosphere by communicating and connecting with the students. The number one goal in the

classroom should be to provide a comfortable atmosphere that allows the students to work and

learn.

The number of English as a second language students is rising in the United States; this

means teachers need to be qualified to teach in such a way that accommodates to these students.

We can be more qualified to teach these students by going through programs, and receiving

certifications. Also improving the way we treat every student. Treating every student the same

regardless of where they are from, what sexuality they are, or what gender they identify as, is

growing increasingly important throughout the years.

The curriculum nowadays is based on standardized test. These test scare students, often

times giving them test anxiety. Test anxiety can cause poor performance, which reflects badly on

the intelligence of the student and teacher. I believe we should cut out these test, but that is a

unrealistic outcome for the future. Testing and assignments would be helpful if we taught more

than what was required for the standardized test. We need to teach our students more than just

basics, so they have a higher chance of falling in love with the subject we teach.

I believe we can capture the minds of our students by interacting with them,

involving them, and showing them how to analyze the world around them. Our main goal as

teachers should be to show our students they have the ability to do anything they put their minds

to, through education.
