Post-Teaching Reflections for each component of the 7-E Model:

ELICIT:

After watching the video, I think that asking questions to check for understanding worked really well.
The students had a paper where they were to take notes on. I think it is very crucial to give students where to
write because if we dont then the students wont bother to take any.

ENGAGE:

We engaged the students when we began the HIV activity. Having the students get up and do some type of
activity is very efficient because it helps those kinesthetic learners. Playing music while students were doing the
activity also made it more fun for the students!

EXPLORE:

The activity we did was for them to experience an actual exponential function in person. I think that the
example with HIV was very successful because the students responded very well to the exit ticket which was
for them to come up with their own real life examples.

EXPLAIN:

I think that we should have gone over all the questions on our exit ticket. We forgot to go over two questions
which asked, How is the spread of HIV and exponential functions related? and What kind of exponential
function was demonstrated by the activity? Exponential growth or exponential decay? These questions were
very critical to our lesson and we failed to discuss them with the class. I feel that our EXPLAIN could have
been better.

ELABORATE:

The students answered the exit ticket on their own and had a small group discussion. It was very effective and I
think we elaborated on our topics very well by adding the group work and having them critical think.

EXTEND:

By having students relate exponential functions to the spread of disease they were able to make cross curricular
connections and consequently, able to expand their knowledge.

EVALUATE:

We used the flip classroom strategy to teach our lesson. I believe our video helped students understand and it

saved time from having to explain it ourselves and helped us focus more on elaborating the lesson.

CLOSURE:

We wrapped up the lesson by allowing the students to work as a group and come up with their own examples of
exponential functions. I think the students had great examples! They exceeded our expectations because most
group had real life examples for both types of functions. They got creative as well! The examples were about
the plague, about zombies, and kittens!
