Aim of this assignment:


The aim of this unit is to offer students an opportunity to demonstrate the skills required for managing and implementing a project.
They will undertake independent research and investigation for carrying out and executing a business project which meets
appropriate business aims and objectives. On successful completion of this unit students will have the confidence to engage in
decision-making, problem-solving and research activities using project management skills. They will have the fundamental
knowledge and skills to enable them to investigate and examine relevant business concepts within a work-related context,
determine appropriate outcomes, decisions or solutions and present evidence to various stakeholders in an acceptable and
understandable format.

Introduction to the theme:

Corporate Social Responsibility and its importance for sustainability and competitive advantage:
Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic
development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at
large. (World Business Council for Sustainable Development).
Businesses worldwide have increasingly embraced the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a means to develop
and adopt sustainable practices and approaches in their business operations. It is a multifaceted concept that encompasses many
different aspects ranging from philanthropy, ethical responsibilities and environmental considerations.
Most recently, in response to maximising stakeholder value and expectations, the strategic benefits of CSR has seen many
companies having a competitive advantage. Together with the rise of globalisation, companies now employ CSR managers, experts
and consultants to produce comprehensive CSR policies and programmes, to give them a competitive edge and build stakeholder
trust and loyalty.
This unit will enable students to examine the multi dimensions of CSR within the context of business operations applied to a small-
scale project. This will provide the opportunity for students to contextualise the principles of CSR and explore the merits of CSR in
relation to meeting competitive and sustainable organisational objectives.

Scenario:

If you are Implementing a new CSR project in a business, you need to consider a number of factors to ensure the best chance of
success, such as what are the start-up options, findings to keep existing customer, sources of finance for start-ups, tax and legal
issues for start-ups, business plan and so on.

You work for a consultancy firm specialises in offering advice to small business owners on how to implement new CSR activities to
achieve sustainable objectives. Your company is approached by a new client planning to set up a CSR project in its operations.
The management of the above business has discovered that, CSR approach one of the best ways of creating positive image and
facilitate growth in the business activities. Consequently, your line manager has assigned you to assist the new client
(management) to implement successful CSR project.
Use the following tasks (LO1-04) as a guide to assist your client to undertake the proposed project:

Task 1: (LO1 & LO2)
The submission of Task 1 would be in the form of an individual Professional research report.
Your work must be supported with research and referenced using the Harvard referencing system. The recommended word limit is
1,500 words, although you will not be penalised for exceeding the total word limit.

P3 Produce a work breakdown structure and a Gantt Chart to provide timeframes and stages for completion.

For higher grades:


M1 Produce a comprehensive project management plan, milestone schedule and project schedule for monitoring and completing
the aims and objectives of the project.
M2 Evaluate the accuracy and reliability of different research methods applied.
D1 Critically evaluate the project management process and appropriate research methodologies applied.

TASK 2 (LO3, LO4)


The submission of Task 2 would be in the form of an individual Professional research report and self-reflection. Your work must
be supported with research and referenced using the Harvard referencing system. The recommended word limit is for P5, & P6
(1000 Words) and P7 (500 words) although you will not be penalised for exceeding the total word limit.

Submission Guidance and Policies for Edexcel Students

This is an individual assignment. All parts of the assignment are required to be presented in a professional format, MS Word
PowerPoint and processed with full citation and references following Harvard system. Brit College strongly advises the learners to
follow the guidance below:
Brit College prefers Times New Roman 12 or Arial 11 in the body of the text.
An assignment cover sheet and a receipt must be attached along with each submitted assignment.
All assignments must have clear headings and sub-headings where necessary.
Make sure you state the word count on the title page.
Assignments must be printed in black and white.

Provisional assessment results will be available on the VLE from 23/06/2017 and final results will be due on a date to be
announced later, following confirmation through the external examining process by Pearson.

Late Submission and Resubmission:


Lecturers would not accept any assignment unless an extenuating circumstances form has been filled in and duly
authorised by a member of staff.
Students will receive the feedback form and guidance from the lecturer to improve in the areas of their weaknesses on
their first submission. Please note that assignments can be re-submitted only once. A resubmitted assignment will be
awarded a failed grade should it not meet the required pass grade marks and results in retaking the module.
Please note that a resubmitted assignment will earn a maximum pass grade should it sufficiently meet the required
criteria.
