ARCHITECTURE perception). Geometry of shadows Geometrical structure and
representation of surfaces. Ways to generate surfaces and
volumes. Types of simple surfaces (multi-faceted, of
generatrix and curved directrix, radiating and ruled).
Architectural applications.
The objectives are: to learn how to draw architecture
(buildings) in close surroundings within areas that can
normally be wide (landscape or a city); to Understand the
universality of the basic level of graphic representation on
paper (notebook or normal paper) with manual tools (pencil
and other manual techniques); to understand drawing as a
language (like speaking, reading or writing) or process that
includes a way of expression (personal drawing or artistic)
and the many ways of interpreting it (once the work has been
understood). Theory lessons will involve all ways of
understanding drawing (language, presentation,
representation); the methods for taking down data and
35503 DRAWING 1 FO 6
transferring measurements; the standardised representation
systems; the change of scale and visualisation (diedric and
axonometric); combining chromatic aspects with basic linear
aspects. A progressive and guided acquisition of the skill is
achieved, based on progressively more elaborate practices
with theoretical explanations. Each one of the proposed
topics will require previous work by having contact with the
object or place in the shape of small sketches, quick notes or
any other type of written or graphic expression. The topics
will be related to buildings of interest, due to their
morphology, history, context or degree of appropriateness in
terms of the progression of the students ability.

A general introduction to the conceptual complexity of
architecture. A series of general concepts will be given based
on history, theory, architectural criticism, focusing on the
concept of space-time from a current perspective. In this
sense, on the basis of the relevance of modern architecture,
a global vision is to be provided, based on generic
observations such as architecture-architect, urban-rural
context, space-for construction-structure, composition-order,

from historical, theoretical and critical approaches. The idea
is to explain the conceptual complexity of architectural work,
thus complementing the introductory approximation from a
technological and prospective point of view in the other two
introductory subjects that are also developed in the first two
semesters of the degree. In this manner, a strategy of cross-
curricular relation is established with other aspects that are
taught in the first year.

work as a paradigm of cultural diversity. Public/private place,
programme or relation are concepts that are constantly
redefined in the exercises. Throughout the year students
shall be introduced to Management of architectural
knowledge; Design of theoretical contexts; Discovery (rigour
of fantasy); Culture of the Project.
The subject is aimed at introducing students to
understanding urban reality and current territorial reality,
through recognising certain projects in the history of urban
planning. This allows students to learn about the different
models of city intervention and the most relevant

contributions. Procedures of urban form analysis shall be
studied, which are related to identifying these reference
models as a base to understand what makes up the urban
structures today. An approach of the graphical representation
of a contemporary city is proposed as an analysis result.
The subject takes an historical approach to the city from
ancient times to late 19th century architecture and provides
motivation. This trajectory is proposed based on significant
35515 ARCHITECTURE THEORY 2 CO 6 examples in which it is contemporaneity possible to
recognise fundamental concepts that are current in
architectural. The topics include architecture and the city
from a historical perspective.

The programme develops content based on the epigraph

"the architectural project as a group experience... towards
social innovation". The proposed topics will entail
understanding the architectural project as a measurement
and intervention tool in a city: It requires extending the
ARCHITECTURE DESIGN culture of the project as a trajectory in which each project is

This cultural project is based on research and innovation.
Throughout the year students shall be introduced to the
understanding and practice of: Management of architectural
knowledge; Design of theoretical contexts; Discovery (rigour
of fantasy); Culture of the Project.
A critical and ordered reading is carried out not necessarily in
chronological order but based on superimposed layers as a
method to approach cities and architecture during the last
150 years. A teaching strategy is used which includes
35523 ARCHITECTURE THEORY 3 CO 6 choosing an architectural period, a period of architects and
architectural works that are considered to be contemporary
landmarks due to their present-day impact. Facts and
concepts from the late 19th century to the 21st century are
the basis of the learning objectives.
The public urban space is studied from different
perspectives, using different analysis methodologies that
enable a complete and complex approach to the meaning

FOURTH YEAR - SEMESTER 7 (30 ECTS)

Code Module Type ECTS Contents

The programme develops basic content based on the

epigraph "the architectural project as an instrumental
experience... towards the redefinition of professional
formats". The proposed topics will suggest approaching the
architectural project as partial developments based on
ARCHITECTURE DESIGN selecting and learning how to approach issues that,
35532 CO 6
STUDIO 6 according to a special complexity, are not approachable from
traditional formats: time, emerging cartographies, data
visualisation, landscape tools, and new tools. Throughout the
year students shall be introduced to: Management of
architectural knowledge. Design of theoretical contexts.
Discovery (rigour of fantasy). Culture of the project.
An approach to basic concepts is proposed, which has been
understood in western culture as "architectural composition",
by means of multidisciplinary visions based on modern
considerations from the 20th century. The aim is to
emphasise the cross-sectional character of the discipline of
architectural composition, and the role in generating
35533 ARCHITECTURE THEORY 4 CO 6
previously usable expectations in the architectural project by
the architect. In order to do so, different issues are
addressed throughout the course, such as form-space,
structure-order, function-type, light-shadow, reason-
rationality, memory-time or nature-artefact among other
possibilities.
The subject addresses the methodological and interpretative
approach of landscaping, applied to land and urban contexts,
so that the tools and procedures are implicitly and explicitly
managed and tested in both the professional and academic
field related to landscaping. Land and landscapes require a
35534 URBAN PLANNING 6 CO 6 wide range of knowledge of a cross-sectional nature, as well
as managing different analyses and works. The aim is for
students to understand that the perspective on reality is
kaleidoscopic and interpretative. Students will work on this
interpretation and on the way of objectifying the seemingly
subjective appreciations.
Singular building systems. Singular building systems of
building structures. Singular building systems of foundation
solutions. Singular systems of interior division, carpentry,
stairs and other aspects of finished works. Singular systems

FOURTH YEAR - SEMESTER 8 (30 ECTS)
Code Module Type ECTS Contents

The programme develops basic content based on the

epigraph "the architectural project as an instrumental
experience... towards the redefinition of professional
formats". The proposed topics approach the architectural
project as an instrumental development and deals with
issues according to a special complexity: time, emerging
cartographies, data visualisation, landscape tools, new digital
tools, dynamic management of information, ergonomics and
sociology as devices, etc. The previous Architectural projects
module addresses traditional architectural topics from a
ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
35537 CO 12 personal and permanent redefinition, whereas this module
STUDIO 7
addresses the instrumental development possibilities
enabling the building of new imagination through longer
practical activities. The activities will be based on building
and testing methodologies that enable the implementation of
this new instrument to develop comprehensive architectural
proposals that value the new paradigms of sustainability and
new professional roles. Throughout the year students will be
expected to undertake the following: Production of
architectural knowledge; the design of practical contexts;
Techniques of the Project and accuracy (rigour of contents)
Students will learn about urban and land design. The focus
will be on the design aspects of urban transformation and
growth, particularly in its territorial aspect, based on a built
35539 URBAN PLANNING 5 CO 6 reality and the complex system of spatial relations. Students
will learn intervention strategies in land structures, focusing
on the role of social agents that take part and the time factor
in building the city or land area.
Condition of materials and the structural behaviour.

FIFTH YEAR - SEMESTER 9 (30 ECTS)

Code Module Type ECTS Contents

The programme develops content based on the epigraph

"the architectural project as an intelligent experience...
towards promoting cultural diversity". The architectural
project is a personal and group commitment, and part of the
required professional training. Students are expected to
present proposals that integrate data and provide information
on the project in an innovative manner. This is a
ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
35542 CO 6 multidisciplinary approach, essential to establish new
STUDIO 8
standards and formats for a sustainable architectural action.
At the end of the degree, accuracy both in content and
format are required. Throughout the year students shall be
introduced to the understanding and exercise of:
Management of architectural knowledge. Design of
theoretical contexts. Discovery (rigour of fantasy). Culture of
the project.
The objective is to introduce students to architecture
criticism, both as an assessment tool once the work is
finished, but as well as a surveying and projection tool.
Criticism is made at different levels and varying degrees,
always based on the tradition that modern architecture
ranges from the 19th to the 21st centuries. It involves leaving
35543 ARCHITECTURE THEORY 5 CO 6 isolated objects behind and moving on to contextualisation in
different senses: urban-geographic, cultural-artistic, social-
economic and semiologic-structuralism. In this manner,
students shall build a corpus of theories and critical
approaches that shall be used as a support tool to develop
architectural projects as current works that can be linked to
contemporary ways of thinking.
The objective is to offer students a framework in which their
professional career is related to urban planning. On the other
hand, they shall study approach methods, assessments,
sectorial studies, landscape studies, environmental impact

studies, etc. The first approach to developing a professional
career is made by developing a project with different
possibilities that are offered in order to face land intervention,
taking into account the legal limitations.
Basic project execution sketches and drafts. The project
execution of buildings and urban works, their function.
Documentary content. Knowledge on deontology, association
organisation, professional structure and civil responsibility.
Regulation compliance. Structural system. The building
surroundings. Foundations. Structure. Safety in the event of
a fire and safety in use. Eliminate architectural barriers.
Envelope systems: enclosures, roofs and other structural
work. Partitioning systems: interior division, carpentry, stairs.
