Force & Motion

Adapted from Physics Motion Activities for Second Grade

2nd ByKingery
Grade: Intro to Physics, Amber Kari Johnsrud
Standard:
P.FM.00.31 Demonstrate pushes and pulls on objects that can move.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to define motion and discuss how a push or

pull affects motion.
Learning Targets:
I can describe what motion is.

I can review how a push or pull affects motion.

Time Needed:
About 45 minutes
Hook/Anticipatory Set:

Introduce lesson by reading "And Everyone Shouted, 'Pull!'" by

Claire Llewellyn at carpet
Send students back to desks

Directed Instruction:

Show Media Power point #200 on Intro to Physics (Encourage

conversation and exploration!)

Split students into teams (groups of four work best).

Guided Practice:
1. Introduce Lab. Demonstrate PUSH and PULL Factors. Record on
worksheet.
2. Pass out materials to group.
3. Group work as a team experimenting creating force and
motion. Students are to record their experiments on Lab
Worksheet. Worksheet needs explaining, so do the first
example as a group (As seen in #1).

Materials needed:
-Lab Worksheet
-Toy truck
-Rubber band
-Ruler
-Toy blocks
-Cardboard tube
-A few thick books
-Small ball

Demonstration:
PULL
To show force starts objects moving, demonstrate or have examples
available at a central location during this activity:
