Greetings all!
My name is Matthew Natale. I am a fourth
year college student, in my first full year at
East Stroudsburg University. I took some
time to find my passion, but in these years I
discovered I greatly enjoy teaching. I was
very interested in History
throughout school, and
that inspired me to
become an educator, to
help younger children
find that love of a
particular subject that I have found. I very
much like to learn, and spend a good portion
of my free time looking at the past and
making connections to the current state of
the world. Listening to music and talking to
friends is also my favorite way to relax.
My Favorite Quote
Albert Einstein, the world renowned
physicist once wrote, Everyone is a genius.
But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb
a tree, it will live its whole life believing that
it is stupid. I heard this quote years ago,
and it has stuck with me ever since. It
dictates that all living things are
extraordinarily intelligent in their own right.
This greatly benefits both teachers and
students, as if they both know and
understand the quote, students will be more
willing to take that extra step without fear.
Goals for Learners
By the end of this tutoring session, I want
for my learners to be more confident in their
work. I hope for them to be more willing to
read aloud, and not worry about stumbling
over words. Reading is something to enjoy,
and that is what I wish for them to learn. It
should not be a task, it should be something
to look forward to, which they will see.

My Favorite Subject
As I said above, my favorite subject is
history. Studying the past and using it to see
patterns with the present is a lot of fun. It
almost feels like you are able to predict the
future, which is really cool. My favorite
book is My Brother Sam Is Dead which
depicts brothers on opposite sides of the
Civil War. It is a depressing topic, but I love
the book and have read it over fifty times.
Parting Advice
As the years go on, school will begin to
seem more like a chore than something fun.
This is something you will not want to think.
Remember the times you had now, and the
other great times elementary school has
given you. Take those memories with you as
you get older. Keep them in your mind, and
that will help you discover a passion for
learning. Learning is not something that
ends once you graduate, it is a lifelong
process. The sooner you learn that and apply
it to yourselves, the easier school will be,
and much more fun! Do not be afraid to
open up; make a new friend or take a new
class. Some of your classmates will be with
you your whole life, and a class might turn
out to be your job. You never know, so look
early! Why wait to discover your passion?

1. Purpose
The purpose of this newsletter is to introduce myself to the students and parents that I
will be working with for the next few weeks. It is designed to let them get to know my
background, where I come from, why I am here, and what I plan to accomplish. As well
as an introduction, it provides some helpful sites and advice that may benefit the child,
and possibly even the parents as well. It is a beginning mechanism to create an interactive
community with between myself and the students/parents.

2. Audience
The audience of this newsletter will be the students, but mainly their parents. The
students ages will be between eight and eleven years old, while the ages of the parents
will differ greatly.

3. Typefaces used:
a. Calibri: I used Calibri as my Sans Serif font for the headings of the sections.
b. Times New Roman: I used Times New Roman as my Serif font for the text inside
the paragraphs.
c. Word Art is used for the title.

4. DTP Design Principles:

a. Dominant element: My dominant element of the newsletter is my picture in the
introduction paragraph. The heading is designed to be noticeable, but not
distracting.
b. Legibility: The text is consistently organized and easy to read through the
document. Font sizes are consistent: Calibri Bold 16 pt for headings and Times
New Roman 12 pt for paragraphs.
c. Alignment: The headings and paragraphs are all consistently left aligned, with the
title being centered and the date and volume aligned left and right respectively.
d. Grouping: The ideas in the paragraphs are placed under their corresponding
headings. My introduction is in the Greetings section, links to websites under
the Educational Websites section, etc.
e. Balance: This newsletter is formally balanced as the two columns are equal width.
f. Unity: The information included in this newsletter is entirely relevant to the topic
at hand, introducing myself and making a basis for helping these children grow
and learn.
