UWRITE 1102

Professor Douglas

Inquiry Paper Proposal

For my high school senior exit project, I studied and evaluated the effects of technology

on adolescents. I found this topic to be very informative and relatable, not only for children, but

for adults as well. While conducting the research for my project, I found a substantial amount of

information ranging from medical studies to legitimately published medical research. Also, I

incorporated a lot of useless information to my paper. Information that on its own might be

important, but did not contribute to my project as a whole.

I want to conduct my extended inquiry project, for UWRITE 1102, on the same topic as

my senior exit project. This subject is something I am familiar with, and I still have several

unanswered questions from the original project. Such as, what are some ways we can mitigate

the health risks of technology before we begin to see the warning signs and visible health risks to

our bodies? Can we make a conservated effort to protect our children and younger generations

from these health problems, by changing the way we produce and use technology today?

One thing to be noted about this topic, when I conducted my preliminary research, I

found there are substantial long term health effects associated with prolonged use of technology.
With this knowledge, I am going to enhance my paper by removing the information pertaining to

psychological behavior and using technology to cope with these psychological problems, and

embed my paper with information pertaining to proactive solutions to a 21st century problem. In

my original paper, I explored the realm of using technology to help patients with mental

problems and mental instability to reconnect to society by placing supervised patients into

alternate realities and attempting to teach them right from wrong. The effectiveness of this

method was substandard, but the theory and implementation was semi-relevant to my paper as a

whole. I am using this as an example of ways I am going to improve my paper in the extended

inquiry. I am going to take this and other areas out of the paper due to lack of substance and

irrelevance. I am going to replace these sections with information I obtained after completing

the paper.

After finishing the final draft of my senior exit paper, I was left with some questions. I

took some time to research those topics of discussion, and am going to use the knowledge and

information I gained to bolster the weak areas of my paper. I think this semester long assignment

will enable me to better explore something I already have an interest in, and something I have

previously studied.
