Rules & Regulations

Objective
The Amphibious Electric Vehicle Competition 2012 offers students an opportunity to learn by
means of a friendly competition against their peers where students take responsibility for the
design, construction, and performance of an electric-powered vehicle that will complete a race in
the shortest possible time. Competitors will build an amphibious electric-powered vehicle that
will race on a 10 meter racecourse which water element was added.

1. Team
1.1. This competition is opened to all Malaysian and non-Malaysian.
1.2. Each team shall comprise of maximum four (4) members consisting of:
1.2.1. Three (3) students and one (1) instructor and all are from the same school.
1.3. Each team is required to submit the registration form online:
1.3.1. Registration date: Refer online
1.3.2. Last day of payment: Refer online
1.3.3. Online registration form is available at 1mysolar.blogspot.com
1.4. Each team is required to pay a registration fee of RM 100.00

2. Vehicle Specifications
2.1. The vehicle MUST be able to move on both dry and wet tracks.
2.2. The vehicle can be either using the original design from the kit or can be your own
design using any other materials.
2.3. The maximum dimensions of the vehicle, including any front and rear projections are as
follows:
2.3.1. Length : 30 cm
2.3.2. Width : 20 cm
2.3.3. Height : 20 cm
2.3.4. Weight : No limit
2.4. The vehicle MUST be powered solely by electric as the source of energy which means
the batteries must be connected directly to the motor. Hence, circuits or electronics
devices (except resistor) are NOT ALLOWED to be used on the vehicle.
2.5. The maximum voltage allowed for a vehicle is DC 3V
V with 10% tolerances.
2.6. The vehicle must not hold on or hook at the side wall.
2.7. None of the vehicle parts should be in contact with or touching the bottom surface of the
wet track.

3. Track Specifications
3.1. The race track is divided in two parts which consists of:
3.1.1. Dry race track
3.1.2. Wet race track
3.2. The material of the track is made from acrylic.
3.3. The dry race track is 30 cm wide and 5 meters long. The height of the side wall of the
track is 10 cm.

3.4. The wet race track is 30cm wide and 5 meters long. The height of the side wall of the
track is 10cm. The depth of the water is 5cm.
4. Retry
4.1. No retry is allowed.

5. Violation
5.1. A violation will be counted if:
5.1.1. Team member(s) touches the vehicle after the whistle sound.
5.1.2. False start

6. & Disqualification - Definition: Barred from competing in that particular match. Not
the whole competition.
6.1. Vehicles that change or cross lanes will be disqualified (at the discretion of the race
judges).
6.2. Vehicles that change direction of the race/ moving in the wrong direction will be
disqualified (at the discretion of the race judges).
6.3. Two (2) violations accumulated in the same match will lead to disqualifications.
6.4. Vehicle that hold on to the side wall.

7. Winning Criteria Selection


7.1. Participants who wondering on how the winner of each group is selected can refer to
these clauses:
7.1.1. Number of wins The primary criteria for a team to be selected for the next level
of competition.
7.1.2. Fastest time to finish the race When the number of win is the same for both
teams, we will decide that the team who finishes the race in fastest time will be
selected for next level of competition.
7.1.3. Distance travelled Third clause that will determine the team who will eligible
to move on to the next level of competition when both team recorded the same
fastest time to finish the race.
7.1.4. Number of violations Fourth clause that will count the number of violations
collected by a team. Team who has less violation will be selected for next level of
competition.
8. Safety
8.1. All vehicles must be built such that it will not harm the operators, the referees, and
match officials, members of the audience, opponents equipment and the game field.

9. Others
9.1. The judges have final authority during the tournament.
9.2. Judges have the option to inspect cars prior to the final heat or at any time during/after
the heats are completed.
9.3. If a team was disqualified in a particular round, it means they only barred from
competing from that particular round. Not the whole competition. Participants/teams
may compete in the next round if they following the rules and regulations.
9.4. For any other behavior not specified in the rules, referees are given full authority to
make the decision and the decision is final in the event of a dispute.
9.5. All machines must be designed and made by student teams - readymade commercial
machines will be disqualified from being used.
9.6. If a team is considered disqualified by the judges and head judge, such team should quit
the tournament immediately, and receives no score.
9.7. Challenges protesting the winning order of the heat must be made before the race judges
begin the next heat. All challenges must come from the team members who are actively
competing. The decisions of the race judges are final.
9.8. Any amendments to these rules will be announced by the Contest Committee and be
