Reformation, Ecumenism and the
Road Towards Christian Unity

South East Asia (ATESEA), Central Philippine University, Iloilo City, March 21, 2017)
This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation (1517-2017). It was initiated by Martin
Luther who was born in 1483 during an age of discovery of the new world. It was a transitional period
between two eras, medieval and renaissance. The Church of Luthers time reflected this transitory,
oftentimes turbulent period of decadence and renewal. (For us in the Philippines, the 500th anniversary
of the first signs of Christianity on the islands will also be celebrated soon in 2021 to commemorate the
first Mass and baptisms in 1521 and the legacy of the Sto. Nio icon in Cebu.)
How then should Christians look on the 500th anniversary of the Reformation? For some, the
Reformation brings back painful memories of the division of the Church; for others Reformation means
renewal. But perhaps for all of us today, the Reformation poses the challenges of ecumenism and
reconciliation, recalling Jesus Christs own prayer for one flock and one shepherd (Jn.10:16).
I. Period of the Reformation
When Pope Francis visited Sweden on October 31, 2016, upon invitation of the Lutheran World
Federation to start off the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, he was asked
what he learned from the Reformation. His reply was twofold greater centrality to sacred scripture in the
Churchs life and continuous reform of the Church (ecclesia semper reformanda). Indeed, Luther himself
was calling for reforms, not division, of the Church of his time that had been wracked by corruption,
abuse of the selling of indulgences and political intrigues with bishops lording over benefices and local
princes vying with the powers of the papacy. (During the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines, the
Crown supported the parish priests under the Patronato Real, and also appointed the bishops.)
Luther belonged to the reformed order of the Augustinian Hermits in Erfurt. He was influenced by
Bernard of Clairvaux and Erasmus of Rotterdam. In posting his 95 theses on the door of the church in
Wittenberg on October 31, 1517, the young Luther was ardently calling for reforms, and the opportunity
to dialogue with church authorities. Personally, Luther, the ardent monk and professor of theology, was
preoccupied with his search for a gracious God and the question of salvation (or justification), much in
the same Spirit that the rich young man asked of our Lord, What should I do to inherit eternal life? (Mk.
10:17).
Despite his protestations, Luthers views vis-a-vis his adversaries were engulfed in an atmosphere
of polemics and controversies at a time when the Bible was inaccessible to the ordinary Christian, and
the lives of not a few priests and bishops were all but exemplary. The early attempts by church authorities
to give a hearing to Luther and his growing number of adherents failed. The protestants position was
articulated in the Augsburg Confession (1530), which was not resolved by the subsequent Confutation
of the Church in Rome. Religious conflicts broke out abetted by the northern German princes desirous
of neutralizing the influence of the papacy in earthly and political matters. The Peace of Augsburg (1555)
brought about a practicable compromise in recognizing the religious affiliation of the local lord as the
deciding factor for his vassals (cujus regio ejus religio).
On the side of the Catholic Church, there was no clear ecclesiology at the time and only a kind
of doctrine on the hierarchy. It would only be at the Council of Trent (1545-63) that Catholic church
positions were defined, oftentimes in adversarial tones capped with the condemnatory anathema sit.
The outbreak of the bloody Thirty Years War (1618-48), barely a year after the first centenary of the
Reformation gives us an indication of how wide the gap had become between Catholics and Protestants.
(This was perhaps no different from the current religious wars among Muslim Sunnis and Shiites in the
Middle East.)
II. Towards Dialogue and Reconciliation
If the first 100 years of the Reformation was characterized by polemics and violent conflicts, we can
say that this 500th anniversary is taking place in an age of ecumenism and the expressed desire from all
sides for Christian Unity. This is particularly so during the annual observance of the Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity culminating on January 25, feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. In the Philippines we also
observe at the same time National Bible Week, attesting to our acceptance of a common Bible translation.
This is the result of more than a century of biblical scholarship by Protestant and Catholic theologians
critically examining the Word of God through the words of men in the various books of the Bible.
As a common heritage of all Christian communities, the Bible provides the groundwork for ongoing
ecumenical efforts. Noteworthy among these projects has been the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of
Justification (JDDJ) signed at the highest level by both the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman
Catholic Church on October 31, 1999. This document was also affirmed by the World Methodist Council in
2006. The ecumenical project was initiated by Lutheran and Catholic theologians in 1980 on the occasion
of the 450th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession. In the same year, a working group of Protestant
and Catholic theologians published their study, The Condemnations of the Reformation Era: Do They
Still Divide?
One of the most recent documents that has come out from this collaborative effort is the Report of
the Lutheran-Roman Catholic Commission on Unity issued in 2013 with the significant title, From Conflict
to Communion: Lutheran Catholic Common Commemoration of the Reformation in 2017 (FCC). The
Report focuses on four topics in Luthers theology: (1) Justification; (2) Eucharist; (3) Ministry (particularly
of priests and bishops); and (4) Scripture and Tradition. The discussion follows three steps for each of
these topics: Luthers perspective, followed by Catholic concerns on the topic, and a summary of how
Lutheran theology vis--vis Catholic doctrines can be brought into ecumenical dialogue. The summary
highlights the common points of affirmation and the remaining differences.
In the case of the first topic on Justification, the summary reiterates the full agreement of the
1999 Joint Declaration: The understanding of the doctrines of justification set forth in this Declaration
shows that a consensus in basic truths of the doctrine of justification exists between Lutherans and
Catholics (No. 40). The Declaration also negates the mutual condemnations from the Council of Trent
and the Lutheran Confessions that had been pronounced earlier. The FCC Report notes: This is a highly
remarkable response to the conflicts over this doctrine that lasted for nearly half a millennium (No. 139).
A more recent report has been published in 2015, entitled Declaration on the Way: Church, Ministry
and the Eucharist. This was issued jointly by the Bishops Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious
Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America. The study expounds on 32 Statements of Agreement on Church, Ministry and Eucharist. These
are offered as instances of the imperfect but real and growing unity of Catholics and Lutherans. The
study includes a recommendation for religious educators as well as Lutheran and Catholic seminaries to
provide opportunities for their students to learn about the progress in Catholic-Lutheran relations.
III. Ecumenical Imperatives
Fr. Avery Dulles, SJ, a Catholic theologian, has once described three dimensions in a Christians faith-
response to Revelation: (1) Faith as intellectual assent to doctrine (hence ortho-doxy); (2) Faith as fiducial
trust in God (like a child holding the hand of his parent); and (3) Faith as correct practice or good works
(ortho-praxis). From his monastic and mystical background, Luther tended towards fiducial trust in a gracious
God, the God of mercy. Catholics, on the other hand, particularly since the Council of Trent, may focus more on
faith as assent to doctrine and pronouncements of the Magisterium. On the other hand, other Christians may
witness to works of charity and social service. Notwithstanding the various emphases, all three dimensions
of faith are requisite in every believers life and response to Jesus Christs revelation of the Fathers love and
sending of the Holy Spirit.
Five ecumenical imperatives mentioned in the FCC report can help us take the steps forward in our
inter-faith ecumenical dialogue (Nos. 238-245):
(1) Catholics and Lutherans (also read: Protestants) should always begin from the perspective of unity,
not division, in order to strengthen what is held in common even though the differences are more
easily seen and experienced.
What has happened in the past cannot be undone. But how we perceive the past can be changed
by in-depth historical research, appreciative theological inquiry and a healing of memories. Indeed
succeeding generations of Christians do not experience the same emotional hurts and pains that
divided the reformers from the institutional church during the time of the Reformation.
(2) Protestants and Catholics must let themselves continuously be transformed by the encounter with
the other and by the mutual witness of faith.
Pope Francis has repeatedly urged Catholics to engage in a culture of encounter with the other. The
Decree on Ecumenism of the Catholic Churchs Second Vatican Council (1964) states:
Catholics must gladly acknowledge and esteem the truly Christian endowments from our common
heritage which are to be found among our separated brethren. It is right and salutary to recognize the
riches of Christ and virtuous works in the lives of others who are bearing witness to Christ, sometimes
even to the shedding of their blood (No. 4).
Citing the ongoing persecution of various communities of Christians in the Middle East, Pope Francis
has remarked that we are now indeed experiencing an ecumenism of blood.
(3) Catholics and Protestants should commit themselves to seek visible unity, to elaborate together what
this means in concrete steps, and to strive repeatedly toward this goal.
In a multi-cultural and globalized world that is increasingly becoming secularized, Christian unity
becomes a missionary mandate and our response to the Lords prayer at the Last Supper: that all
may be one, as you, Father, are in me, and I in you; I pray that they may be one in us, that the world
may believe that you sent me (Jn. 17:21).
The Catholic Church recognizes the Trinitarian formula for Baptism in Protestant churches as valid
and non-repeatable, and as a sign of unity even if not in perfect form. Inter-communion of the
Eucharist has been a long-standing aspiration for Lutherans and Catholics.
(4) Protestants and Catholics should jointly rediscover the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ for our
time.
Mercy and Compassion was the theme for the papal visit to the Philippines in January 2015. Jesus
is the face of the Fathers mercy. Going beyond confessional oppositions, all the faithful who call
themselves Christian should strive to live Christ and share Christ to the world.
In contrast to the earlier period of religious intolerance, another Vatican II document, the Declaration
on Religious Freedom, has stressed the sacredness of religious freedom as a human right based on
the dignity of the human person. This right means that all men should be immune from coercion so
that, within due limits, nobody is forced to act against his convictions nor is anyone to be restrained
from acting in accordance with his convictions in religious matters (No. 2). Jesus Christ himself is the
prime exemplar for respecting the freedom of everyone he encountered during his public ministry.
(5) Catholics and Protestants should witness together to the mercy of God in proclamation and service
to the world.
In the Bishops-Ulama Conference dialogues in Mindanao, Catholic and Protestant bishops on one side
have engaged in peace-building dialogue with Muslim religious leaders on the other side. I have also worked
with Protestant religious leaders in the Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform which tries to broker the peace
between government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. Over the past years, there have
been inter-faith workshops on climate change, involving religious leaders from Christian, Muslim, Buddhist,
and indigenous people communities. This is where Faith as orthopraxis can be recognized by other believers
and non-believers.
The road towards full Christian unity still lies ahead, even as many milestones have already been
reached. Commenting on the challenges for the Church in Asia, Archbishop Felix Machado, Chair of the
Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences (FABC), has
observed: The unity of the Church is not imagined by Pope Francis as concentric circles around a Roman
Center, but a multifaceted reality, not a puzzle to be solved from outside, but a whole which reflects the light
of Christ. The pope has also used Oscar Cullmans phrase in calling for a reconciled diversity. Asked why
he went to Sweden to mark the start of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Pope Francis replied that
his was a very ecclesial journey in the ecumenical field. May our gathering today also be part of that journey
of faith.

The Catholic Lay Theologians Community-based Drug treatment and

Position Against Casino
The members of Confraternity
of Catholic Lay Theologians and
defenders of the Faith express their
unity and support to the position of
the Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro,
Most Rev. Antonio J. Ledesma,. J, DD to
vehemently object the establishment
of Casino in Cagayan de Oro for
some moral grounds. The Catechism
reminded us that gambling become
morally unacceptable when they
deprive someone of what is necessary
to provide for his needs and those of
others. The passion for gambling risks
becoming an enslavement (CCC2413).
There are a lot of moral implications
which may result from addiction to
gambling which destroys the minds of
the young and promote the culture of
easy money. The Catholic encyclopaedia
stated: What is staked must belong to
the gambler and must be at his free
disposal. It is wrong, therefore, for the
lawyer to stake the money of his client,
or for anyone to gamble with what is
necessary for the maintenance of his
wife and children.
We believe that the pronouncement
of our local Church is neither a whim
nor a baseless objection only but it is
rooted on a lifetime observations and
reflections on the life of the gambles
and the gambling itself. For the Church
further added: In most people,
gambling arouses keen excitement, and
quickly develops into a passion which
is difficult to control. If indulged in
to excess it leads to loss of time, and
usually of money; to an idle and useless
life spent in the midst of bad company
and unwholesome surroundings; and
to scandal which is a source of sin and
ruins others. It panders to the craving
for excitement and in many countries it
has become so prevalent that it rivals
drunkenness in its destructive effects
on the lives of the people.
As observe among countries
which promotes Casino a lot of slot
machines are also found nearby and
about 10 miles from the vicinity people
have gambling problems. The culture of
gambling that the Casino may promote
affects not only on the rich but also to
the poor people who dream of acquiring
money through these kinds of dreams.
Records show that In 1978, outside of
Nevada, there were virtually no legal
slot machines in the United States. By
2010, there were about 947,000. This
rapid effect is like to happen here in
our land. Those who were not able to
visit Casinos may start to be curious of
going inside with a greater chance of
getting hook in gambling.
On the argument that Casino
helps the local economy is a careless
statement of some proponents since
the report of CNN on Casinos dated
September 24, 2013 David Frum said:
The impact of casinos on local property
values is unambiguously negative,
according to the National Association
of Realtors. Casinos do not revive
local economies. They act as parasites
upon them. Communities located
within 10 miles of a casino exhibit
double the rate of problem gambling.
Unsurprisingly, such communities also
suffer higher rates of home foreclosure
and other forms of economic distress
and domestic violence. Moreover
Casinos cannot guarantee to hire local
applicants since their jobs require
trained skills, like accounting, dealing
cards, security or other expertise which
are not found here in Cagayan de Oro.
The Archbishop is a person of
God and of the people; he cannot allow
to remain silent against those wolves
who offer nice words to deceive the
Cagayanons to approve Casino. Any
action that does not glorify God is evil;
hence, our community will stand only
on position of the Church for we believe
that the Holy Spirit will not be lacking
in helping His flock towards the truth
and the good.

The aftermath of the concurrent
Duterte administrations war on drugs
throughout the archipelago dubbed
Operation Tokhang, an anti-illegal drug
campaign spearheaded by the Philippine
National Police documented almost
800 responders in the municipality of
Magsaysay. Taking advantage of the
positive response to the call, the local
government unit of Magsaysay, initiated
by its local Chief Executive, conducted
a series of consultative meetings with
Church authorities and its volunteer
organizations, the Municipal Police Office,
Municipal Health Office and the Municipal
Social Welfare and Development Office to
come up with appropriate interventions
and system of drug treatment and recovery
program for the said responders.
The initial interventions crafted by
Mayor Rey B. Buhisan gained attention
from the Archdiocese of Cagayan de
Oro through San Roque parish as the
first parish and Local Government Unit
partnership that promptly maximizes
the Ugnayan ng Barangay at Simbahan
(UBAS) in laying down alternatives so as
not to put the positive response of those
in illegal drugs in vain. His Excellency
Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ, D.D. listened and
discussed the value of human life. The
learning experiences were also shared
in the formation of a Coalition for a Drug
Free Society in the entire Archdiocese of
Cagayan de Oro where the bishop is the
founding chairman.
With the timely visit of Mr. Bong
Florendo, area coordinator for No One in
Need Movement of the Live Christ, Share
Christ, with Mayor Rey B. Buhisan and Rev.
Fr. Julius S. Guinit, Jr., SSJV, the intervention
was conducted by the I Will Survive
Foundation from Cagayan de Oro City on
August 8, 2016, a couple of weeks after the
announcements of Operation Tokhang.
Over 110 responders attended the forum
on Drug Addiction and answered a set
of questionnaires for evaluation on the
immediate response to the situation.
The voluntary involvement of Live
Christ, Share Christ Movement broke the
financial constraints facing the conduct
of needed activities. Even when the LGU-
Magsaysay has not appropriated any funds
for the intervention, they were able to find
solutions to sustain the implementation.
The visit of the national volunteers
core group from Live Christ, Share
Christ (LCSC) Movement augmented the
Community-Based Drug Treatment and
Recovery Program as initial strategy of the
Local Government considering the non-
availability of a facility that would house
the said responders. The San Roque Parish
of Magsaysay and its facilities also aided
the conduct of training seminar of peer
counseling facilitators serving as venues and
accommodations.
It was October 5-7, 2016 when the
training seminar for peer counseling
facilitators from the designated members of
the Local PNP, MSWDO and MHO-NDPs and
BHWs was conducted. The 25 barangays
of Magsaysay were clustered into 5 and a
series of cluster meetings from October
6-7, 2016 were held and attended by the
number of responders or so-called those
who surrendered themselves in view of the
Operation Tokhang.
The information calling the responders
to attend the said activity-interventions was
done by the PNP-Magsaysay addressing the
letter-invitation to the respective Punong
Barangay concerned. However, in view
of almost eight hundred (800) so-called
surrenderees, about 10% of them was in
actual attendance but not of same persons
as the responders. Some of these responders
(of the 10%) were not present during the
conduct of initial activities.
During the meetings, it was emphasized
that it is voluntary for the responders to submit
themselves to the community-based program
as response to the local governments and of
the local parishs intervention activity. They
were grouped to share among themselves
their present feelings and expectations of the
program. In this venture, the trained NDPs
and BHWs assisted the core group of the
LCSC.
A brief situationaire was also
conducted to the interns of Christ the King
College as social worker students. However,
their intervention to the program was limited
due to their academic requirements that
prevent them to further involve themselves.
On November 13, 2016, with a celebration of
a Holy Eucharist, Rev. Fr. Julian S. Guinit, Jr.
SSJV together with Mayor Rey B. Buhisan and
all the stakeholders, formally launched the
program.
Detoxification activities were also
implemented by the members of the PNP-
Magsaysay. Cluster detoxification activity-
schedule were assigned to every cluster as
follows: Cluster 1- at Brgy. Damayuhan every
Mondays, Cluster 2 - at. Brgy. Cabubuhan
every Tuesdays, Cluster 3 - at Brgy. Sta.
Cruz every Wendesdays , Cluster 4 - at Brgy.
Bonifacio every Thursdays and Cluster 5 - at
Brgy. Consuelo every Fridays.

Blood-Letting Activity in March
It is inspiring to see how
superheroes help save peoples lives,
but we can be real heroes ourselves.
When you give blood, you save not
only one life but as many as three.
This month, Santuario Eucaristico in
collaboration with Northern Mindanao
Medical Center volunteer doctors and
nurses successfully conducted a Blood-
Letting Activity on March 22, 2017 in
our parish.
When we donate blood, we give
someone another smile, another hug,
another chance to be with their family
and friends again. In simple ways
like this, Santuario aims to help more
people in need. For this recent activity,
16 heroes donated their blood. Their
donation will be kept in reserve for
emergency purposes, and for people
who come to our office for medical
help.
We thank all our volunteers
who generously lent their arms and

The partnership of NFP CRS
project has been a feat. The hard work,
dedication and commitment of the
counselors contributed much in the
full implementation of the program.
There has been rapid increase of the
couple acceptors in a short span of time.
The resourcefulness, creativity and
commitment of the Coordinators made
the implementation of the program more
systematic, organized, easy and light.

Viva Seor San Jose! On the
Solemnity of St. Joseph, the Husband
of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St.
Joseph Chapel in 6th Division, Patag
successfully celebrated its 52nd
anniversary with a mass wedding of
four couples and the baptism of 14
children.
The celebration started with nine
days of novena prayer and mass on
March 10 to 18. On the last day of the
novena, four couples who had been
living together for years received the
sacrament of marriage. The parish
and the chapel envision supporting
unmarried couples to unite in Christ
through the Sacrament of Matrimony.
Aside from blessing their union,
the couples children were baptized
on the feastday. The Sacrament of
Reconciliation/Confession was
conducted after the 6 PM novena mass
in the chapel.
On the feast day itself, a Diana and
procession of the image of St. Joseph
was made around the area of St. Joseph
Chapel where it commenced with the
Fiesta Mass and Baptism presided by
Fr. Clifford B. Barrios, SSS. Afterwards,
a feast was served to the ministers and
guests. The foods in the feast were
generously given by the parishioners
of St. Joseph Chapel, a very good
example of the essence of community
and giving.

The World Interfaith Harmony Week

The World Interfaith Harmony Week
(WIHW) was celebrated in Cagayan de Oro
on the 1st week of February this year with
the theme, Celebrating Harmony in the Spirit
of Mercy and Compassion. This week-long
celebration is based on a Resolution 65/5
proclaimed by the UN General Assembly on
October 20, 2010 which states that every first
week of February is the World Interfaith Harmony
Week between all religions, faiths and beliefs.
We are encouraged to promote interreligious
and intercultural dialogue, understanding and
cooperation for the elimination of all forms of
intolerance and discrimination based on religion
or belief. Thus, there is a need to re-affirm
that mutual understanding and interreligious
dialogue constitute an important dimension of
a culture of peace.
To promote harmonious relationship and
better understanding between and among
people of the different living faiths, the Interfaith
Forum for Peace Harmony and Solidarity whose
members are UCCP Pastors, AFP Chaplain
(Methodist), IFI priests, Roman Catholic
Priests, Nuns & Lay faithful, Imams and Ustadj
of the Muslim community, IP-Higaunon of
Dansolihon, Campus Ministries and Peace
Projects of Xavier University, students of XU
Siraj Muslim Religious Organizations and
Muslim Youth Council conducted series of
activities in Cagayan de Oro City.
The first day of the week-long celebration
was graced by an ecumenical prayer service
hosted by Senior Minister Reverend Ricardo
Yaez Jr. of the United Church of Christ in the
Philippines Cagayan de Oro. Each Church
representative was assigned to specific
intentions to pray for. But prior to the prayer,
Archbishop Antonio J Ledesma, SJ DD of the
Roman Catholic Church gave the introduction
and the rationale of the said celebration.

Some emerging and prevalent issues were
also tackled by the distinguished speakers.
Moreover, he challenge the Muslim youth in
Cagayan de Oro to get involved in promoting a
culture of peace and dialogue with their fellow
youth so as to create more spaces for mutual
understanding and respect with one another
and the otherness of the others.
The WIHW concluded its activity in the
Pamumulakaw-Panulak ta Wahig on March 4,

de Oro City in order to give thanks, say sorry
and assure them protection of the dwellers
(guardians) of the Cagayan de Oro river to
never again experience the tragedy of 6-years-
ago (Sendong) that Kagay-anons could not
forget. In this gathering were the people in Brgy.
Nangka, Libona Bukidnon, the members of the
Interfaith Forum, XU Year of Service Volunteers,
XU Socio-Anthro Dept., members from SACDO,
Parishioners of Barra, Opol, Columban priests,
seminarians and lay missionaries from Tonga,
Fiji and Peru. The ritual was also graced by the
simultaneous prayers of the Baylan (Datu), Priest
and Pastor during the pamatbat (incantation).
This IP ritual reminded us of our responsibility
to be a true steward of God, Bathala or Allahs
creation.

governmental organizations came to
give him a dinner tribute.
The day ended with praises to
God for the gift of a loving, energetic
and faithful shepherd of the flock.

BEC Study Day Held in Balingasag RP-NFP Program

The BEC Commission of the
Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro
supported and celebrated 2017
as Year of the Parish - Communion
of Communities with the theme:
Forming BEC as agents of communion,
participation and mission. The
commission initiated a BEC Study Day
on March 8, 2017 at Peoples Palace
AVR 1, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
The participants were Archdiocesan
BEC formators from ten vicariates. The
purpose of the activity was to study,
deepen and plan for the whole year
celebration of the BEC.
Rev. Fr. Julius B. Clavero, SSJV,
ACDO BEC Director, introduced the
Fr. Clavero with participants of BEC study day
modules to the formators, and solicited
ideas on how to deliver the formation
sessions to the parishes. They agreed
to translate the module into Cebuano
and each vicariate was assigned a
chapter to work on. They agreed that
the module be presented to every
parish starting March.
The module will also be presented
to every BEC Vicariate Assembly. The
formation input for the gathering was
to explain the topic on Ang Pito ka
Haligi sa Kultura sa BEC: 1. Metanoia;
2. Koinonia; 3. Kerygma; 4. Leitourgia;
5. Diakonia; 6. Anawim; and 7. Servant-
Leadership.

The Responsible Parenthood
and All-Natural Family Planning
(RP-NFP) program was launched
at the Archdiocesan Shrine of
the Divine Mercy on March 12,
2017 during the 3:00 PM Mass.
Most Rev. Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ,
D.D. presided at the Eucharistic
celebration, with Rev. Fr. Walerian
Pozniak, MIC, Shrine Rector and
Rev. Fr. Dennis Batacandolo, CSS as
concelebrants.
Before the final blessing at
Mass, the poster of the program
was unveiled by the counsellors
and the Rector. Rosendon Q. Reyes
III, Crisalyn P. Reyes and Zenaida
J. Dorol made the oath as NFP
counselors at Shrine to serve the
pilgrims whenever their services
are needed. These counselors
underwent a NFP Counselors
training held at the Resource
Center, Archbishop House Cagayan
de Oro City from February 26 to
March 1.

Pastoral guideline for All-NFP:

Responsible Parenthood. We are
for Natural Family Planning. And
