GEOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS
Various approaches may be used for geochemical analysis, depending on the needs of the client.
Each approach consists of a fragmentation technique and an instrumental technique. The solubility of
certain elements in the methods used depend on the mineral structure. Each combination has its own
specific element group as well as its own upper and sub-reporting.
The most important criteria which needs to be taken into account when making a decision on a
package are the dissolution techniques. As with the analysis devices, the most widely used
instrumental techniques are ICP OES, ICP MS and AAS. These devices are widely accepted in
mining and the prospecting industry as analysis methods which are fast and cost effective.
AA 50- Digested in two acids, analysed by AAS; implemented for sulphur base metals.
AA 51- Digested in two acids, analysed by AAS / ICP OES / ICP - MS; is a package analysis.
Includes the analysis of a total of 34 elements. Is implemented for sulphur base metals.
MA 53- Digested in multiple acids, analysed by AAS / ICP OES; is a package analysis. Includes the analysis
of a total of 23 elements. Is implemented for sulphur and silicate ores.

MA 54- Digested in multiple acids, analysed by AAS / ICP OES / ICP MS Includes the analysis of
a total of 41 elements. The dissolution procedure in multiple acids is considered as a total dissolution
for certain Cr and Ba minerals and Al, Fe, Hf, Mn, Sn, Ta and Zr oxides. In addition to this, there may
be a certain amount of loss from the As, S and Sb metals due to the evaporation during the dissolution
in multiple acids.

WATER ANALYSES
The sampling procedure must be conducted in accordance with the conditions set out in the
Communiqu on Sampling and Analysis Methods of the Water Pollution Control Regulations.
pH, conductivity, unsettled solid matter and SO42- are carried out in unprotected water samples.
Cation (Ca, Mg) analyses are performed in both protected and unprotected water samples.
Dissolved oxygen, hardness, total organic matter and all metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Fe, Co, Ni, Ba, Mn,
Cr, B, Li, Mo, Sr, Hg, As, Se, Al) analyses are performed in the protected water samples. A minimum
of 1 L of protected water samples need to be obtained. The sample which has been strained for the
protection procedure needs to be placed in a clean plastic sample container, after being washed with
the sample, and acidified with HNO3 in order to reach pH <2. pH paper or a pH meter should be used
to check whether it has reached the appropriate pH.
The sample containers need to have been prepared in advance, and must be clean, and plastic and /
or glass and / or quartzous containers which have not been used before should be used. There needs
to be a sampling label - as follows on the sample container.
