INTRODUCTION TO THE MINI-SYMPOSIUM ON NEW

DEVELOPMENTS IN EXPERIMENTAL ECONOMICS

BY TATSUYOSHI SAIJO

Osaka University, Japan

On March 3-5, 1999, an international conference on New Developments in

Experimental Economics was held on the Suita campus of Osaka University and at
the Senri Hankyu Hotel, Osaka, Japan, with funding from the Japanese Ministry o
Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology and the International Economic
Review. More than 75 experimental economists from around the world (including
most of the top leaders in the field) attended this conference, and 19 of them
presented papers.
The four articles in this mini-symposium are among the papers that were
presented at this conference. All of these articles underwent the usual rigorou
refereeing and editorial process, and represent cutting-edge research in the
important and rapidly growing field of experimental economics.
I thank the International Economic Review for providing part of the funding fo
this conference and for publishing this mini-symposium.
