HR Policies Comparison

Dell and HP are two close competitors that currently exist in the market. These two companies

closely compete in different business strategies. The Dell is following the make to order strategy

it means that when customers put the order, the company started to build the computers and other

products. HP company works as a stock available in their warehouses in finished form so the

customers can easily buy the products of the company (Dell, 2015).

Dell mission statement:

Our mission is to be the most successful IT systems company in the world by delivering

the best customer experience in all markets we serve.

HP mission statement:

To provide products, services, and solutions of the highest quality and deliver more

values to our customers that earns their respect and loyalty.

HR department overview (Dell):

The company started their operations in 1984 in two different cities one is the Austin and

other is the Texas. There are 125,000 employees that are currently working in the organization.

HR department overview (HP):

HP HR department is out-sourcing it means that there are different matters related to

human resources managed by the third party for the organization. This out-sourcing company

name is the Cybage Company that is responsible for different HR related activities of the

company (BATTIPEDE, 2013).


HR Policies (Dell):

The company follows two main HR strategies that are applied to the whole organization.

One policy is the team incentive and peers 360-degree evaluation. First policy team incentive

that means that individual team performance and group performance of every employee is

measured. Second, peer 360-degree evaluation it means that the different employees including

the CEO the performance is measured in every perspective.

HR Policies (HP):

HR department issues the employee manual that is the charter of guidelines that are

required to measure the performance of the employees. The performance of different employees

in the organization measured through employee referral scheme. According to this scheme, every

employee performance measured equally except CEO and head of HR department (Hewlett-

Packard, 2009).

Employee benefits (Dell):

75% educational fees of the employee's children are paid by the company, but employees

should work as a regular employee of the organization. Employees that are working more than

five years at the administrative position than company give the certificate or gift and use of this

certificate employees purchase any tangible property.

Employee benefits (HP):

Every employee should allow taking seven leaves during the whole year. The employee

has also issued an access card that can be used on company premises. The working hours for the
employee are formed 9.30 to 6.30 and one and half hour is the launch break for the employees.

The different leaves can avail by the employee at any point in time (Zeidner, 2006).
