Welcome

to my Portfolio,

My name is Jamie Welch and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Rhode

Island. This semester I was enrolled in WRT104 instructed by Professor Urso. My original

purpose for taking this class was to fulfill an elective requirement to graduate. I began with the

mindset that it was going to be an easy A, but that belief was proved to be wrong very

quickly. I began to understand that writing is an art. As the semester progressed, I allowed

myself to become vulnerable and in doing so I created artwork that I was proud of.

The goal of this writing class was to enhance the students writing abilities. I mastered

how to properly construct research papers as well as effectively convey emotion within a

personal essay. Ive learned how to create a journey within a paper rather than simply tell a

story. Ive expanded my vocabulary as well as reduced my grammatical errors. The most

important impact that I believe resulted from this class is my new found pride towards my

work.

I wasnt aware of the importance that writing holds in todays society. Mid way through

this semester I applied for a business internship. I was asked to submit a writing sample for the

position and after doing so, I received the job. I chose to submit Battle from Within, which

was a paper that I wrote during WRT104. Making this decision was easy because I felt as though

this paper embodied my transformation as a writer throughout the year and receiving the job

was verification.

Although each paper that I completed throughout the semester was my best work at

the time, I have grown significantly since each due date. I have revised every paper from this

semester in order to lead my reader through the course of my growth.
