How do you use the forms and conventions of the genre?

Presented above are two screenshots. One from my music video I created, the
other from Mura Masas Girl. Both songs used in each music video fall under the
same genre of music, Electronic. One thing I noticed during the research stage of
this production was the fact that this specific genre of music video have a very
non-linear style, where the shots are filmed in arty creative type of way. I tried to
recreate this approach by using low apertures to create a shallow depth of field
when focusing on something in the foreground. I also incorporated multiple central
compositions. Combining the central compositions with the use of a low aperture,
allowed me to achieve this arty creative look

A convention I noticed in Ben Khans Youth music video, was the use of camera
movement. As you can see above, the screenshot shows the camera mid
movement. This movement didnt seem natural as it created a sense of discomfort
for the viewer. For my music video, I didnt want to create that sense of discomfort,
therefore I took inspiration from the use of camera movement in Ben Khans music
video, but decided to make it appear more natural. I also noticed there was quite a
few pans and tilts in Ben Khans music video, which I also tried to implement into
my own music video. Again both songs used in each music video fall under the
same genre of music, Electronic.
Challenge
Presented along the left hand side of
this slide are two screenshots from
SBTRKTs music video for his song
Wildfire. During this music video, I felt
like there were a lot of different
elements which would of been very
difficult to recreate for my own music
video. These different elements include
the use of cgi and other special effects.
I also feel like there was a lot of
different props used, which made it feel
like a movie set was set up in order to
produce and film this music video. This
would mean that budgets would of
been extremely high, therefore near
impossible to recreate for my own
production. Therefore in order to
challenge this convention, I tried to
create a more natural feel, to almost
give a feeling of real life, which wasnt
evident in SBTRKTs music video.
