1. Dissolve 6g Na2S2O35H2O with 2. Fill burette with Na2S2O3 soln, & record initial v.
Red brown soln Pale yellow, Add 2 mL starch, Stir until no blue colour.
4. Immediately begin titrating with Na2S2O3 soln. When the red-brown solution changes to a pale
yellow colour, add 2 mL of starch solution. Stirring constantly, continue titrating slowly until the blue
colour disappears.
5. Repeat 2x.
Vit C

40 mL H2SO4
+
0.5 g NaHCO3
2. Dissolve vit C in Erlenmeyer flask with 40 mL of 0.5 M H2SO4, and add 0.5 g NaHCO3.
1. Filter about 120 mL of freshly squeezed 2. Measure the mass of a clean, dry 250 mL
juice through several layers of muslin. Erlenmeyer flask.
EXPERIMENT 4: REDOX TITRATION ASCORBIC ACID
5 mL H2SO4
+
0.1 g NaHCO3
1. Pipette 25.0 mL standard KIO3 solution (from Part A) into sample solution from Part C.
Add 1 g KI.
Add 5mL 0.5 M H2SO4 and 0.1 g NaHCO3.
Red brown soln Pale yellow, Add 2 mL starch, Stir until no blue colour.
2. Titrate excess I3 in sample with standard Na2S2O3 solution as described in Part B.4.
3. Read & record the final burette reading. Repeat 2x. Calculate % of ascorbic acid in the sample.
