CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to study sports services of Nueva Ecija University of
Science and Technology and its impact and levels of satisfaction among the
students of College of Architecture. Using survey method, the researchers collect
the data from the random students in every year level of the college. The total
sample size is 229 from different year levels. The analysis of the data is represented
in tabular form for easy evaluation of the sports facilities, services, clubs or sports
units and the non-monetary benefits gained by the students.

The students of the college of architecture are overall moderately satisfied

with the universitys sports services. Ranking first in the students satisfaction is
facilities and equipment and lastly non-monetary benefits. There is only a slight
different between the students satisfaction rate in each category but all came down
to only one level of satisfaction which is moderately satisfied. The students think
that the university is capable of holding sports game and events, casual or not, but
still lack few things to completely satisfy the students. This results to slow growth of
the well-being of the students in terms of non-material aspects.

Also, the researchers recommended some remarks in the improvement for

better sports services to provide for the students.

INTRODUCTION

Education is the vital foundation of our civilization; without it our society, as

we know it, would no longer exist. Because of this, the amount of research
conducted on all aspects of the educational realm is abundant. Sports, and other
extracurricular activities, have persistently been explored for their effects on
students (of any age) and their academic work. This is important to educational
studies because it brings two aspects of schoolingathletics and attendance
together.

Sport in today's society is more popular than probably ever imagined. Large
numbers of athletes participate in a variety of colleges as sport becomes more of a
fixture in the lives of Filipinos. Sports activities have been gaining a great
momentum in Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology. The lack of
services is a major detrimental factor in the development of sports in the university.
Physical, mental, and moral health go together. These are foundational beliefs in
modern society.

The survey is administered as part of the universitys status on sports

facilities and services. The conducted survey aims at collecting information on how
architecture students perceived their satisfaction regarding this matter. For sports,
it is becoming increasingly important to develop and improve sports facilities
services in the university to attract more participants and meet as much as possible
the highest level of satisfaction of the students.

The survey questionnaire has been designed to measure the level of

satisfaction of architecture students in the sports services in the university. As well
as measuring overall levels of perceptions, it provides data on services, facilities
and equipment, clubs or sports units and non-monetary benefits. In addition, the
questionnaire has been designed to enable analysis of the data by year and section.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aimed to demonstrate the extent of sports services in Nueva Ecija
University of Science and Technology in terms of sports facilities and equipment,
services, sports club/units and its non-monetary benefits. Specifically, the following
research questions were addressed:

1. How was the level of satisfaction of architecture students in sports services in

terms of;
a) facilities and equipment;
b) services;
c) clubs or sports units; and
d) non-monetary benefits

2. What sports services did the architecture students perceived to be the most
satisfying?
3. Is there a significant difference between the students level of satisfaction in
each of sports service category?

HYPOTHESIS

The following hypotheses are formulated to address some of the research questions:

1. The students are all satisfied in terms of services, facilities and equipment,
clubs or sports units and non-monetary benefits.
2. The architecture students perceived their high satisfaction in non-monetary
benefits.
3. There is a significant difference between the students level of satisfaction in
each of sports service category.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Boosting participation in sport can generate a variety of benefits. Sport can,

and does, make a profound and positive impact on individuals, communities and
wider society. The researchers will conduct a survey questionnaire to keep a critical
eye on the existing view about sports services. The aim is to provide the information
needed to make the best strategic decisions.

This survey study will examine the effects or impact of sports services in the
university among architecture students. It will attempt to determine the level of
satisfaction regarding on certain questions. This survey is conducted in order for the
improvement of sports services in the university.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

It was mans desire for a healthy pastime and a method of self-evaluation and
competition that gave birth to sports. Some people may think that sports and social
activities are not important for students. It is understandable that most of the
university and college students are keen on sports. The university has the
responsibility to improve sports services which have been always overlooked.
Thus, the significance of the study is that it can give informational data about
the perception of the students in sports services occurring in the university. It can
be the way for the improvement of services that the university offers on students.
Also, this study is also significant and acts as a basis for the future researches that
will happen.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The population of respondents was of adequate size to provide more

comprehensive questionnaire responses. There are 229 architecture students from
different year levels are the respondents in the study. The architecture students
surveyed in the study completed the questionnaire accurately and honestly. The
satisfaction scale questions in the survey measure the level of satisfaction of
students in the sports services occurring in the university. A limitation inherent in
this type of research may be that it is not possible to determine mathematically
whether the conclusions of the research can be generalized to other.
However, the study may be expected to be relevant for illustrating the current
condition of sports services in the university in terms of services, facilities and
equipment, clubs or sports units and non-monetary benefits.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The survey is conducted using personal distribution of survey sheets and as

such, the copy of questionnaires is useful in presenting the rationale analysis.
All of the information we gather is vital to the University as it informs and
details sports services in the school that provides us with a rich data source to
model the potential impact of Sports services. The findings of the surveys are based
on responses from 229 random Architecture students. Our respondent responses to
our survey make clear impact of sports services programs in the university can be
significant and profound.

SAMPLE SIZE

The following table shows the sample size taken from the population of
college of architecture.

The student ranked each category in terms of their level of satisfaction as

highly satisfied, satisfied, moderately, satisfied, unsatisfied and highly unsatisfied.
The weighted mean of each category are then computed to represent the college of
architecture students as a whole in analyzing their level of satisfaction for the
universitys sport services
The following table shall be the basis for interpreting each averaged category.

CHAPTER 5
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

CONCLUSION

Based on the results shown in the tables, most of the architecture students
are concerned in sports facilities and equipment. They are aware about it. It seeks
to investigate the importance of facilities and equipment, concern with the
students. They are moderately satisfied with the sports facilities which provided by
the school. In terms of benefits, especially the non-monetary benefits, they are
moderately satisfied about it but it has the least rank among all the categories
concern with sports. As a result, the architecture students are moderately satisfied
in sports provided by the school. Even though it is not that just good feedback for
the school because it means they should have lot or improvements to satisfy the
student's needs.

RECOMMENDATION

The school can make a step on how they should react according to the
feedbacks of the students with the sports services that they provided. All things
concern with sports requires good maintenance planning and execution in order to
be effective. This is because good maintenance planning and execution can trim 15-
30% off operating expenses which flows directly to the bottom line. They may set
measureable objectives so that progress during a set period can be monitored.
Objectives could be reasonable and show a progression of improvement in critical
areas. The school could improve everything that is concern in sports including the
facilities, equipment, services, clubs and non-monetary benefits. Sometimes all of
the students think about the benefits if they join in anything that concern about
sports; and also if the sports equipment that they need are accessible or available.
