Has anyone here heard this story before? Based on the picture on the cover
of the book can you think of a word to describe Rumplestiltskin?

Ok, lets begin the story. Look at the pictures carefully and listen to the story to see if you can
describe each character in the book: Rumplestiltskin. Remember to raise your hands before
blurting out an answer, please.

Read the book and act out the different characters in the book by changing your voice by
either using a high pitched voice for the Princess, a deeper voice for the King and a silly
or strange voice for Rumplestiltskin.
After reading the story ask two children which character they liked and disliked.

Those characters were quite interesting werent they?

As they tell you their reasons why, write adjectives on the board that you hear from their
answers
OkToday we are going to do an activity acting out characters from the book; by a show
of hands who would like to help?
Invite students to act out their favorite characters from part of the story.
While students are acting out the character have the audience raise their hands and
describe characters they portrayed.
o Tell students that any word that is used to describe something that we like or
dislike is called an adjective.

Today we are going to do an activity;

You will be given a piece of paper and a pencil.
First, write down as a list: Father, Daughter, King, Rumplestiltskin and Queen
Now write OR draw 2 adjectives that describe each name listed above.
On the back of the paper, write down as a list: Friend, Family, Parent
What are 4 of best adjectives that you can use to describe a friend, parent or family
member in your life?
If some students have trouble with spelling, write a few different adjectives on the board.

When you are finished with adjectives list, at the bottom of the page there are 2 numbers and
lines.
On those lines write 2 ways you are like the person you drew in the picture.
Raise your hand, and the teacher will help you spell the words that you do not know and
want to write on the lines.
